Baxter is a 2 year old, 65 lb., treeing walker coonhound. The PAW volunteers say the following about him: He is super sweet, gentle taking treats, likes to stop often to sniff on his walks. He loves people and thinks everyone wants to visit him! He can pull the leash hard when he wants so that will need some work. He can be startled by cars or other loud/high pitched vehicles and will sometimes freeze when walking if too many noises are going on. He needs a good amount of encouragement to keep walking, but he does eventually. He is treat-motivated so should pick up on training very quickly and he is good with other dogs. We've never heard him bark so he doesn't seem to be a big barker. show less

Beyonce is incredibly sweet and wants to be your shadow. This 1 year-old, dark gray, medium haired, tabby has super soft fur; she adores being brushed and petted! Beyonce is a mild, even tempered kitty who is perfectly content sitting on your lap and soaking up all of your affecton. Beyonce loves being with people and regularly seeks out your attenion. Beyonce is a bonded pair to her son, Blue. They must be adopted together. Beyonce is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all age appropriate vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Blue, son to Beyonce, is an adorable 6 month-old, tabby kitten who loves to flop over dramatically for belly rubs. He is very affectionate with both Beyonce and with his human friends. Blue is super social with his humans and with other cats! Blue has a confident, independent streak and is always looking for an adventure. When not exploring, Blue will seek out petting and attention. After lots of activity and fun, Blue can be found napping in the sun. Blue is a bonded pair to his mother, Beyonce. They must be adopted together. Bootsie is a sweet black and white long haired female cat who was found in a cat colony in Harpers Ferry, WV. Despite living with many outdoor feral cats, Bootsie is very friendly and was clearly a housecat at some point. Our vet estimates Bootsie at 4-6 years old. After about a week living indoors, Bootsie has adjusted to life inside and loves to be petted and brushed by her foster mom. She enjoys sitting and sleeping with her foster mom and loves to play. Bootsie has been checked out by our vet and is in good health, though she has tested positive for FIV. FIV is not transmittable to humans and can only be transmitted to other cats via deep bite wounds. Cats in households with stable social structures where housemates do not fight are at little risk of acquiring FIV infections. In addition, research has shown that cats with FIV can live a lifespan as long as a non FIV cat. FIV should not be seen as a reason not to adopt! Bootsie's adoption fee is $125 and she is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Bruno is 2-4 years old (two vets estimated 2 and another vet estimated 4 so we're not sure!), 9lb, chi and, possibly, Pekingese mix (a cheeks), who is looking to be spoiled! He was found as a stray. He is a little shy and unsure from all the changes in his life but is warming up. He enjoys sleeping on the sofa wrapped in a blanket. He gets along well with the small dogs in his foster home. He appears to be pee-pad trained but also enjoys going outside. He probably would do best in an adult only home or one with older (teenage) kids.  show less

Denver is a 5 year old, 75lb Coonhound mix. He is a very handsome boy and gets lots of compliments when on walks about his look and his behavior on a leash.  He loves walks, hikes and even trail rides on bike with his person (using the gentle leader leash). He loves the sun and would do nothing all day if the sun didn’t move around. He is crate trained and will “go to his room” easily. He is potty trained and will stay in his crate from bedtime until morning!   On walks he will stop to say hi, but would rather keep walking and sniffing. He does fine in a dog park, but mostly stiffs the whole place instead of playing. He is not a fan of cats and not sure about other animals, including a live-in dog. Visiting dogs are fine. Denver knows sit, stay, come, place, bang, roll over, off, walk, car ride, room, leave it is not perfect (but the picture with a poop toy on his head is a good example of him leaving it). It's fun to teach him new tricks and he really enjoys learning. He is not allowed on furniture because he gets very protective of spaces. He is food motivated which helps with training. Denver would love a home with adults only who are experienced with dogs and are willing to maintain clear boundaries. show less

Meet Emmy, a 10 month old (as of February 2023), 45 lb., GSD x. She is the littermate of PAW dog, Sam, and former PAW dog, Dean. She is very close buddies with new PAW dog, Jazzy!  Their previous foster says the following: Both Emmy and Jazzy were, for me, housebroken and crate trained and know basic commands. They love to play ball and love cuddles. Emmy can be frightened with strangers and was never around children while with me. Brief encounter with a cat had her running the other way and she has been fine with all other dogs. Jazzy gets along with all people and most dogs. Neither dog was food aggressive and both are very sensitive and sweet. Ford is a 6 month old brindle and white German shorthaired pointer mix puppy. He loves other dogs, is very smart and treat-motivated, and loves to relax on his human's lap. He arrived with his brother Chevy; they would love to be adopted together but can be adopted separately. Ford is a snuggle bug. While he likes to take a walk, he makes sure to take frequent breaks to give some love to his human.  He loves getting pets and wants to thank you with some kisses. Frankie is a friendly young male brown tabby who was found in a backyard with an injured foot. It appears that he was bitten by an animal and the wound got infected. Luckily, the person who found him contacted PAW and we were able to have him treated. He's on the mend, and has also been vaccinated, neutered, tested negative for FIV/Felv, and has been microchipped.   Frankie loves pets and is getting used to living inside. He's very sweet and gets along with other cats. He is tightly bonded with a 6  month old female black and white kitten named Piano. We would like to find them a home together. Geneva is a 5 year old, 65lb treeing walker coonhound.  She has overcome much to get where she is and is ready for a forever home!  She's a cuddle bug who loves to crawl into bed with you and play around with other dogs like she's a puppy.  She does get the zoomies at home but some ball throws or a Himalayan cheese stick and she starts to settle down.  She is good with kids but not with cats as all she wants to do is chase them and play which can be a difficult situation for them.  She does need some work on command training but she is a quick learner!   PAW places animals in the Washington, DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area only. show less

Meet Oliver but his friends like to call him Ollie. He’s a 1-2 year old, 11 lb chihuahua mix, possibly with rat terrier. Ollie was found as a stray and will make a great new friend! He is shy at first but warms up quickly. He loves to cuddle in your lap.. He is currently living with his foster family’s small dogs and enjoys playing with them. He is nervous walking on a leash, so probably would not be a great fit for apartment living. Piano is a sweet 6 month old black and white female kitten. She was rescued from an outdoor life and is very bonded with her friend, Frankie, a 1 year old male brown tabby. They sleep together, and Frankie keeps a watchful eye on her at all times. She follows him everywhere! We would like to find them a forever home together.    Piano is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchiped, and tested negative for FIV/Felv.    The fee to adopt Piano and Frankie together is $275.
