About Kilon located in Maine

Adoption Fee: $550.00 - under 12 Months Old Fee (2023 fee)

“Hey Everyone! My name is Kilon, and I am listed with MAD as KILON! And everything out of my mouth gets an explanation point! Because I have a lot of energy, and am ready to go to work for you as soon as I roll out of my fluffy bed! Check out that cool lightning bolt marking on my tail! Gotta run now, I am going to give my Foster Dad the keyboard, and see if I can get the other Malinois here to play with me!”

So Kilon is just 5 months old and came into MAD from a shelter’s Death Row in NYC on Super Bowl Sunday. After a quick stop over in Boston, we picked Kilo up on Valentine’s Day and he is in Vermont now on 10 acres and pounding through the snow and frozen ground like a trooper. He racks up 6 to 7 hours of exercise a day on his activity Tracker.

Kilon answers to his name, is very alert and must go to a working home, where he has a job. He is very curious and if you talk to him while you are working he is very attentive to that, but he is not a ‘sit by your desk’ kind of dog.

Kilon weighed 37 pounds on the bathroom scale this morning, but he has paws larger than my 72 lbs. female. That is a significant indication that he will grow to be a full sized Belgian Malinois.

Kilon knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’ and ‘come’. He is struggling with ‘off’ and ‘no’ due to his high drive and puppy energy, but with a bond he will attain that as well. Uh oh, he’s back!

Kilon says “I would be a GREAT working dog! I longs to be outside, even in the rain or snow. Are you taking a shower? I will pop in for a splash! Going for a ride in the car? Put a body harness on me and hook me to the head rest; just leave me a little slack to lay down and leave the vents blowing on me so I can draw a sniff map of where we are going! Oh look! My Jolly Ball, gotta go!”

Kilon would make a great herding dog on a farm with the right training. He wants to meet every dog he sees and initiates play right away, often by ‘nosing’ a back leg of the other dog. He’s with an Alpha Senior Belgian Malinois and a Black Mouth Cur now that gets into play bow and takes off running with Kilo. He is wearing them out by noon daily!

Going from NYC life to the country he is gradually getting used to the quiet surroundings but is easily distracted by them, so we use the Calm App “Fly Fishing” soundtrack and then he settles in and sleeps all night. During the day, his high drive has him needing something in his mouth and wants others to engage him. Kilo is not an apartment dog or concrete jungle city dog. Due to his high energy, he needs to be on a natural surface. He had paw pad damage from his prior life but its healing up nicely. Uh oh, here he comes again!

Kilon says “So, I know I am a little busy body now, but I have NOT been neutered yet. The other male dog here says I will be more focused and concentrate better when that is done. I am really funny and kinda clumsy and goofy too! I like take off passed my foster Dad by running between his legs, going under the truck on my belly instead of around it; I go upstairs by jumping two or three at a time! Everybody makes this high pitched chuckle whenever I do those things, so they must like it, right?! Uh oh, Foster Mom is home and she might have that pumpkin bread from the bakery again!”

Kilon loves to snuggle up with the female human in the house. He has a bit gentler demeanor with her, and will snuggle up and make the cutest ‘comfort sounds’ at night while watching TV. He is very verbal with his emotions. While he bonded quickly with me, he is attracted to females first when we are out and about.

Be sure to contact MAD and get an application in today for KILON!

Alani is a 6 month old Belgian Malinois that was just pulled from an Atlanta area shelter.  She is very sweet and friendly, loves people and is dog friendly.  She was velco with the shelter worker so she is definitely a cuddle bug and wants to be with her person.  We are just getting to know her so we do not know about housebroken, crate trained, obedience, drives. As she decompresses in her foster home we will update her description.  Again, she is new to MAD Rescue, as we learn more about her we will update. Baby Storm is a sweet little firecracker. Her spicy personality makes her so fun to train and watch her learn. She was evaluated by a Malinois trainer and he was blown away by her confidence and high drive to work! She was handler focused and showed high toy, food and ball drive. She must go to someone willing to put her to work! She isn't your typical velcro dog b/c she has confidence! You will have to earn her affection and it will come if you give her the dedication she deserves! Who knows, she could be earning titles. Anyone interested in agility, fast cat, rally, obedience, tracking or nose work?!?! Due to the high drive, we recommend against small children and small animals or cats.  She will thrive in a home with an experienced handler who can direct her drive into purpose. She would love doggy siblings to play and get some energy out. She is an active little girl so she will want someone to take her on adventures! Who's up for some fun with this little spicy sweet girl?? Follow her on Facebook: #madlovebabystorm All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and one-year subscription! Beale fka Orejon in a Memphis shelter was adopted out in March 2022 from that shelter as a healthy young 1 year old male malinois.  Back at the shelter in February 2023, surrendered by owner, he is just under two years old, heartworm positive, and with a severly injured front left leg.  The nerve running down the leg was almost completely severed, his paw crushed and toes broken.  How did this happen to this sweet people and dog friendly boy???  He does a wiggle dance when he greets you and when he is in your arms giving you kisses, hence the name, Beale, for Beale Street, in Memphis, where music is abundant and good for the soul! When MAD Rescue heard about this beautiful boy our volunteer team made every second count in trying to save him.  You see, he was due to be euthanized the day after a holiday at shelter opening time.  The MAD Pack made preparations, messaged the shelter our committment to help Beale, but until one of our volunteers was able to physically see him when the shelter opened there were no guarantees the shelter would allow him to come into MAD Rescue. Well, we scored a touchdown and a field goal, he left the shelter on his freedom ride to be taken directly to Mississippi State for veterinary care.  The ER vets awaited his arrival to assess, stabilize, and create a treatment plan.  Unfortunately, the news was not what we wanted for our beautiful and spirited Beale.  The nerve damage was too great and the difficult decison was made to amputate his leg and he would become a tripawd. He will be treated and recover wilt a wonderful foster family in the Memphis area.  Stay tuned as we learn more about Beale.  We will update both social media and the website with progress updates, so stay tuned.   If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Purdy Birdie was found by a good samaritan on the side of the road, after having been hit by a car. Her interior pelvis was fractured and her hip. She was brought to the vet, treated for hookworms and mites, and given basic vaccines. They did a fundraiser in their community for her and took her to an orthopedic doctor who performed an FHO. She is now on the mend and a full recovery is expected. She will just need increasing exercise over time following vet's recommnedations. Her recent check up revealed she is healing quite well.  Purdy Birdie likes children and seems to be ok with other dogs. She had a pretty healthy interest in a cat that ran across the road, so we do not recommend cats. She is a sweetheart that likes to cuddle. She also loves playing with soft toys and throwing them in the air. She is playful and a joy to watch. It doesn't appear she had lived in a home prior to her foster's. Everything seems new to her. Purdy Burdie is still very hesitant and scared of people approaching her, cornering her or trying to catch her. She is not aggressive, but she will run. Until trust is built, you will never just approach her to get her come to you. She has to be coaxed and have her curiosity picqued to come to you. We don't know what prompts this fear, but we are hopeful over time she will learn trust. For this reason she is an absolute flight risk. She cannot be off-leash. Don't even try it. A yard with a sturdy, tall fence is preferred.  Stay tuned for more updates. Purdie Birdie is located in South Texas. _______________________________ All MAD dogs come with a Fi GPS Collar and one-year subscription! Sweet Bliss is a beautiful young 1.5-2.5yo Belgian Malinois who was saved from a backyard breeder. Bliss was used as a breeder and weaned her litter of puppies mid December. She can be hesitant of strangers as a mal typically is but with a sweet voice and some treats, she warms up quickly. Eager to please, Bliss takes direction very well and craves praise. She has a calm sweet demeaner and has no issues just chillin with her people. Bliss has an excellent nose and would be a great canidate for anyone wanting to do scent training. She does best with older children but she does get overwhelmed a bit with small children. Bliss seems to do ok with other animals such as cats, goats, and livestock and is even fond of chickens. She walks well on a leash and is house broken. She is crate trained as well and has a current obsession of going in there for her own breaks! She has met other dogs of varying sizes and so far has done extremely well. She would do best with someone who is home a lot and who wants to give her lots of attention. Anyone who adopts Bliss will get a loyal and sweet champion. Blue is a 8 month old Malinois Mix puppy that was surrendered by his previous owner. Blue is medium energy, naps quietly along side of foster mom while she works. He is treat, food, and toy motivated. He loves to chase a ball and is learning to bring it back. He loves playing with toys. He really enjoys the yard whether it's chasing the ball, resting in the grass or doing zoomies. Blue is incredibly smart and has been a quick study in obedience. Blue walks well on a leash and follows "leave it" well, has met the resident and neighborhood cats with curiosity and does not chase. He does exhibit some mild anxiety in new environments but becomes comfortable and confident as areas like parks and walks become familiar. Blue rides well in a car, sleeps well in his crate and has learned how to use a doggy door.  Blue is affectionate and friendly. He loves being close to his people. He does well with older, gentle dog saavy children. He loved the resident dog in his original home but has been a bit nervous when passing dogs in the neighborhood. Foster does not have a resident dog but it is believed that with a slow, thoughtful introduction, Blue would enjoy a canine sibling. Dog parks with unfamiliar dogs is a no go. Blue is a wonderful companion dog. He is a great best friend. However, Blue is NOT a service dog. Due to being crated during puppyhood, he was denied the opportunity to develop the natural confidence a service dog needs to be comfortable anywhere, anytime, with anyone. That said, Blue has developed a lot of confidence in the last few months. When exposure to new places is done gradually with a few treats along the way, Blue just blossoms and gets his yippy-skippy on. Blue will need a home where someone is home most of the time. He happily sleeps in a crate at night but should not be crated during the day.  Baby gates are best to keep him in a particular place, although he does well with free-roam. He will need a fenced yard to play in and would love a playful canine sibling. Blue has shown a real aptitude for learning new things with positive reinforcement. He is very food and somewhat ball motivated.  To see just how amazing this boy is, go to MAD Facebook and search #madloveblue If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Briar was found with her sister in a back alley by her current foster.  Her sister has found her furrever home, and now it's Briar's turn! Briar is a gorgeous Belgian Malinois mix that is looking to be your next family dog! She's affectionate and loyal to her handler and absolutely adores her foster human sibling. She aims to please during training (may be interested in scent work) and loves to cuddle up between adventures. While Briar is a mix, she is still a maligator and can be shy at first with new people, but does warm up quickly.  Briar would thrive with a home with a family that has time to work with her, as like any mal will need continuous training to be her best self.  She is doing well in her foster home with two small dogs, an extra large dog, adults, and a 5yo kiddo.  We have a feeling she would enjoy scent work, but would also just love being someone's regular walking or jogging buddy as she loves to see the world!  She definitely recognizes the difference between an adult and a child and is much softer with the foster's daughter, though one must always be aware she's a maligator and could accidentally knock over a little one.  Briar is very affection and spunky - the best combo of a velcro snuggler and a total entertainer!  Follow her on FaceBook: #madlovebriar If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. This 9-year-old GSD/Malinois cross is the sweetest, most loving, most loyal companion you’ll ever meet. She was originally pulled from a California shelter, where she was taken after serious neglect. Back then, Donna didn’t trust many people. Who could blame her? Luckily, she’s grown past all that and is blossoming into the amazing dog she was always meant to be. She has bonded hard and fast to her fosters. Although she's initially suspicious of visitors, she warms up as long as they go slow, let her set the pace and reward her approaches with tasty treats. Donna thrives on affection, praise and treats, and she'll happily do anything her people ask of her. She loves spending time with her foster mom and her boyfriend, going for walks or car excursions, exploring new places and chilling with her people at home. She is a champion snuggler and likes to fall asleep spooning next to her foster mom or draping herself over her. Donna walks perfectly on a leash, is crate trained and nondestructive, sits nicely for pawdicures and ear cleaning, and is professionally obedience trained. She loves learning new things and enjoys treats, chew toys, stuffies and frozen raw chicken quarters. Donna will thrive best with an experienced owner or couple with either no kids or older kids who understand boundaries. She is easily redirected from cats and has fostered with several. In the past, she has shown some prey drive toward small livestock. With dogs, she's selective so she'd do well as the only dog in her home. If there is another dog, Donna would most enjoy either a calmly curious puppy she can mold to her or a mellow older dog who gives her space. Are you ready for love? Donna is located in Illinois, but transport can be arranged for the right home. Eddie Van Halen is a 73lb, 2 year old, neutered, heartworm negative male that came into MAD as a stray diagnosed with demodectic mange. This is the most common mite called the Demodex Canis which is not contagious to humans or animals. He was treated by the local shelter and will continue his medicated baths and care in the home of his medical foster. He was tested at the shelter to be dog friendly. The MAD volunteers that evaluated him said he is a very sweet, big puppy that just wants to play and have fun.  He rides perfectly in a car, in fact he jumped in as the volunteer heard him say "thanks for springing me, but I will be driving us home". She reminded him that he is only 2 so he politely hopped into the crate.  He enjoyed the ride and was very quiet as he enjoyed the various music options. He responded to Van Halen so that is why MAD chose Eddie.   On day 1 Eddie met 2 house dogs on the opposite side of the fence and he seemed very happy to want to play with them. He has since moved to a longer term foster mom for treatment and he is a smart and wonderfully charming boy.  He sits, waits and is already using the doggie door for potty.  He has been seen by one of our vets and all of us at MAD are eager to see him transform into a beautiful Malinois.  He takes treats gently and is very quiet in his crate.  Watch for new pictures as Eddie recovers and turns into the beautiful big boy that we know he is.  MAD volunteers are already telling him he is handsome, do you agree?  If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Ember is a sweet puppy who is thriving in her foster home. She came to MAD very scared and is really opening up. She is a gentle and loving girl who is learning how to be playful and silly. She loves all dogs and people. She puts herself in her crate when she is done playing and rides well in the car.  Foster mom described how she got her name: "Her coloring is beautiful blonde with red, black lines. As I was getting ready to put logs in the embers of the fire, tit looked just like her, cooler embers of black, hotter one more reddish with small yellow flames. So, I said, wow, you look just like these Embers, she shot her ears up like that’s my name. So Ember, is her new name and she knows it." What a beautiful new start into a new life! This poor thing was terrified at the shelter and is already healing and coming out of her shell! She will make someone very very happy! Hansel has had a rough start to life and did not come into rescue very socialized.  But with his foster family, he's really coming out of his shell, and loves both of her dogs and has a sweet and loving temperament once he gets to know you. He's a bit timid with strangers, but after he warms up, he wants as much attention as can be lavished upon him. He was found as a stray and is still quite young. His foster has been working with him on leash walking and good manners (jumping and excitable). He recognizes his create is a safe place and enters freely and settles nicely after a few small complaints. He absolutely adores squeaky toys and frequently runs around the house and yard with them. A home with another dog is very welcome for this guy as he loves playing with and chasing his foster siblings. Cats have not been tested at this time, but he has a keen interest in squirrels. All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and one-year subscription. Local pick up preferred. Puppy adoption fee is $550.
