About Doughnut

Adoption Fee: $400

Miss Doughnut is a 15 lb. terrier mix of some type – our best guess is Yorkie mix - who came from a hoarding situation, and she is most likely between 6-8 years old.   Her foster says she acts younger than that age range.  Despite her rough start, Doughnut is a very loving girl and is always up for fun.  She loves people and seeks attention, she's a Velcro dog and is always by her foster's side. Doughnut responds well to being with other dogs. She is not overly interested in cats. Doughnut walks nicely on a leash. She has not met any children yet but has liked everyone she’s met and we have no reason to think she would not like kids. She's totally trained to use pee pads but is not sure what to do outside except keep really close to her foster!  If you don't like dog kisses, you probably should not apply!

At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info.

*/*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/*

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.

*/*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.

*****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****

Alice is a 5-7 year old Chi mix who loves attention and prefers to be in your lap. She is crate trained and will go to the door to go out when she needs to potty and will use a pee pad if she absolutely cannot wait to be let out. She enjoys playing with the small dogs and cats at her foster home. She loves toys and loves to play in the yard. We believe Alice will do best in a quieter home without small children, and that has another small dog to play with as she prefers the company of small dogs. Like many chi mixes, she can rock her attitude with the best of them. Once she attaches to her person, she’ll be devoted, like Velcro and follow you everywhere! At the time you are seeing this post, Alice is still available for adoption. Benny is a mixed breed handsome fella about 4 years old who prefers a quieter home and does best as an only-dog. He prefers to meet new people outside first and then does well with them inside. He is very cuddly to his people and enjoys car rides and adventures. He loves lounging in the sunshine, barking at the deer in the field, and getting the zoomies all around his yard. He's a country boy at heart and would prefer the quieter life in the country. Apartment life and busy city life is not for him.  He should go to a home with older kids and no other dogs. He has been cat-indifferent so far. Benny is available to adopt through Green Dogs Unleashed. At the time you are seeing this post, Benny is still available for adoption. Brixton is a very sweet and very energetic Doodle. She has love for everyone she meets, especially children. She loves to play outside and enjoys running and jumping and playing fetch. She loves food and is highly motivated by it.  Her foster home has started some basic commands and she is getting the hang of “sit” and “watch me”. Have we mentioned she has A LOT of energy?  At only 7 months old the best way to tire her out is by letting her run and play in the backyard, she needs space to let her zoomies out. She would really love another dog in the house, but this dog needs to be okay with the amount of love and attention Brixton will demand from them. She does great with younger dogs, but an older dog will need patience for her. If given the chance she will chase cats. Brixton has some leash reactivity and will bark at people and cars, so this will need to be on ongoing training goal using positive reinforcement and her gentle leader.  Brixton has been spayed. Panda and Rain are darling 10 month old huskies ready and waiting to find homes. They are both absolutely delightful having spent some time in foster learning house manners and how to settle. They are good with other large dogs but true to husky fashion, should not go to a home with small dogs or kitties. They are eager to learn, active puppies and will need continued positive training. They would like large dog experienced homes, but with proper boundaries and exercise, these two will be absolutely incredibly family members. They are good with other large dogs but true to husky fashion, should not go to a home with small dogs or kitties. They are eager to learn, active puppies and will need continued positive training. They would like large dog experienced homes, but with proper boundaries and exercise, these two will be absolutely incredibly family members. Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  show less

Test Dog is a wonderful 2 y.o. mix of everything and our best guess is that she is a terrier mix.  She's 25 lbs., housetrained, crate trained, loves people, kids, dogs, cats.  She has a lot of energy and loves to run and play so a home with another dog or a child and a fenced yard would be ideal.  THIS DOG IS NOT REAL. Winnie is a lot of personality in a small package. She's very affectionate with people, and loves to be the center of attention. She is very curious and wants to be involved in every activity. At 10 years old, she is still active and enjoys playing in the backyard and chasing squirrels; playing fetch; working on her Himalayan cheese chews; spending time on laps. She is housetrained and knows commands, sit, shake, stay, come, go potty. Winnie loves to go out for walks in the yard but has never been leash trained so would prefer a securely fenced yard to play around in. Winnie has lived with two indoor cats for the past five years. They got off to a rocky start, but now she mostly ignores them, but will occasionally attempt to play with them. She is NOT fond of other dogs and will need to be the only pup in her new family's life but does well with respectful kids. Little Winnie was adopted from GDU ten years ago as an 8 week old baby. True to our commitment to every animal we rescue, when we found out circumstances made it difficult for her to remain with her mom, we decided to get right on finding her a new home. Her family is fostering her until the perfect fit is found.  You can apply for sweet Winnie at greendogsunleashed.org   Winnie loves to go out for walks, but she has never done well on a leash. She lunges and pulls and barks and tries to go after anything that moves, be it a leaf or a car. Due to her build, it's been a challenge to find a harness that she can't slip out of and she's mostly limited to outside time taking place in our large backyard. Winnie and her doggy brother are free to move around the house when we're out and have never been destructive (apart from getting into unsecured trash cans). They have comfy dog beds scattered around the house and are also allowed to be on the furniture. Winnie does reasonably well in the car, but does best if she's being held. She does experience carsickness, but only if she's in a carrier and the drive is long. Winnie has always lived with another dog, a small male terrier mix named Pippin. She does not get along well with other dogs, of any size or gender.   Winnie has lived with two indoor cats for the past five years. They got off to a rocky start, but now she mostly ignores them, but will occasionally attempt to play with them. Winnie has lived with two children all her life. Our kids were 3 and 6 when we got her, and are 13 and 16 now. She is used to older kids and teens, but hasn't been around babies or young children in several years. Winnie has lived with hamsters and hedgehogs. She only shows interest when they're brought out of their cages. Winnie is a very sweet, somewhat spicy little lady who would love nothing more than to be someone's special one and only girl. She adores being loved and has a lot of love to give in return.  She is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs to be very close to you when they're happening. Winnie loves to explore the backyard and sometimes gets herself messy enough to need a bath. She's very cooperative in the bathtub and enjoys the blow dryer afterwards. She doesn't like having her toenails clipped, but will usually cooperate. She's also used to being brushed with a deshedding tool, but always appreciates some food bribery. Winnie is a vacuum cleaner dog who is eager to be with you in the kitchen or whenever you're eating in case you drop a crumb. She is highly food motivated and her naughtiest habit is getting into trash cans for anything you don't drop.   The decision to find Winnie a new home took a lot of time and was not taken lightly. We love Winnie, but have come to the conclusion that finding her a new home is ultimately the kindest, safest thing we can do for her -and for our family and other dog- at this point in our lives.  At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption.
