Welcome to Thulani Butch T!  Butch was surrendered by his owner to a shelter in Southern California due to the owner’s medical issues.  After an exciting plane flight, Butch is settling in at Thulani Central.  Butch is a friendly boy who loves human interaction.  He loves pets, cuddles,  giving gentle kisses, and just being with people.  He does well with other dogs, but prefers when they are not in his face.  When confronted by other dogs, he calmly walks away.  He would do well with another dog as long as they respect his personal bubble.  He ignored the cat at his foster home, so could likely coexist with another cat.  Butch pulls a little bit on a leash, but with training could improve quickly.  There is just so much to sniff and explore!  He has some stiffness in his hind legs that comes up occasionally, but he still can get in and out of a car without assistance.  He loves his toys, and carries them around the house constantly.  When he is tired, Butch enjoys relaxing naps on the couch.  Butch is an incredible dog who deserves a family to love him forever.  Butch T Summary: - Male, 12 yrs old, 93 lbs, current on shots - Good with adults, kids, dogs, cats, and travel in the car Butch passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into the TSGSR.  The tests are not intended to assess how smart the dog is but are important for TSGSR to determine if the dog is expected to be safe in a family home.   The tested behaviors check to see if the dog will guard or protect food or toys from people, will tolerate handling all over its body (including ears, nose, lips to check teeth, lifting paws, belly, back, and gently pulling the tail).  He remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.       What's Next for Butch T: Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that Butch is well cared for.  Butch will be checked out by our vets and will be ready for adoption soon.  TSGSR is beginning a search for an adoptive home that will care for him for the rest of his life, so please let us know if you are interested.  He will come to his new home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys.  If you want to learn more or are interested in possibly providing an adoptive or foster home, please send us a message by clicking on the "Ask About Me" button.  We will often get feedback or "updates" from a dog's foster home and as any updates become available they will be included here.  If you would like to help Thulani save more dogs, please consider setting up a monthly donation for dog care and Donate Online Through PayPal . show less

Update:  Gizmo T has been thriving in his foster home.  He has a strong desire to please his family and knows several commands.  He is very athletic and thoroughly enjoys hiking and running.  Gizmo is a very curious boy who wants to learn about everything his humans do.  He appreciates the opportunity to sniff new things that he doesn’t yet understand.  He enjoys being with other dogs, and even politely shares his favorite toys with his furry foster sister.  Gizmo’s tender heart desires to be close to his leader.  If his human disappears from Gizmo’s eyesight, Gizmo quickly jumps up to find them.  He has a strong desire to please the ones he loves.  Gizmo will make a wonderful companion and adventure buddy to his new family.  Gizmo T Summary: - Male, 9 yrs old, 75 pounds, current on shots - Good with adults, dogs (selective), and travels well in the car - Ideal home - Adopter must have large dog experience Introducing Gizmo T:  Gizmo’s happy smile shows just how happy he is for his freedom ride to Thulani!  Welcome to a new life Gizmo T!  Gizmo was brought into a local shelter as a stray.  The shelter suspected he had been hit by a car, but he’s on the road to recovery and ready for his happy ever after.  Gizmo is very social.  He absolutely loves being brushed.  He is a very handsome gentleman with a smile that shows how thankful he is to have another chance.  He needs work on his leash manners, and will do best with an experienced adopter who can provide strong leadership.  Gizmo can’t wait to finally meet the right family to call his own. Update (Sept 2022):  Maverick T has settled in well at Thulani Central.  Maverick is a social boy who loves to meet new people.  Affectionate and loving, Maverick craves attention.  He enjoys his walks and walks well on a leash, only pulling occasionally.  He has excellent mobility for a senior and is fully capable of walking a mile or more.  Maverick is gentle and affectionate, and excited to settle into his forever home. Introducing Maverick T:  We are thrilled to welcome Maverick T to Thulani!  Maverick came to a Southern CA shelter as a stray.  He came to us in rough shape, underweight with some skin issues as well.  After lots of care, he is on the road to recovery.  Maverick is a gentle boy who is ready for a family of his own.  He is cautious when he meets people, but he warms up quickly.  He sometimes barks at other dogs but will coexist contentedly when living together in a shared space.  When riding in the car, Maverick will bark some, but he settles down to enjoy the gentle rocking once up to speed.  Maverick has been through a tough time, and naturally can show some anxiety from time to time.  He is a very sweet boy who is ready to build trust and let his beautiful personality shine.  Maverick is ready to put his past behind him and find a family who will love him forever.  Introducing Nikita T:  The Thulani family is so happy to welcome Nikita T.  Nikita came from a shelter in Southern CA, where she was brought in as a stray.  Nikita recently moved to a foster home and is enjoying settling in.  She is gentle and affectionate, warming up to her foster family and reveling in all the extra attention.  She greets people and dogs nicely, although she can be afraid of other dogs and benefits from reassurance on the first greeting.  Nikita enjoys her short walks and is a model citizen on a leash.  She is quiet and loving and continues to let her personality shine more each day in her foster home.  Nikita is excited to share her gentle and calm demeanor with her forever family. SadieAnn T. is a gentle, affectionate 11-year-old female German Shepherd Dog.  She was adopted by an older couple as a puppy.  They cared for her until her “mom” passed away and her “dad” was moved to a senior care facility where SadieAnn could not live.  She was turned over to the animal shelter where she was confused but eager to be with people and very friendly to everyone who came along.  Due to her age, she was unlikely to find a new home without the help of Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue.  During her time at Thulani Central, we learned that she has no obvious medical problems, good mobility and knows a lot of commands.  She is fine with other dogs and is very open to meeting new dogs and new people.  SadieAnn loves to be with people – she comes right up and asks for snuggles.  She is good on leash and getting even better with practice.  SadieAnn is a medium energy dog who really wants to have a new family to love.  UPDATE:  SadieAnn has been thriving in her foster home.  She is a social butterfly who loves adults and even young children.  She is very affectionate and playful.  She likes to show off her goofy side and in true shepherd fashion shows off her vocalness as well.  Her favorite toy is a ball and she insists on always having one in her mouth.  SadieAnn loves her walks, but she can be insistent in following all of the interesting things she smells.  She is an athletic girl with medium energy who can’t wait to find a family who will give her all the attention she craves. We are so happy to welcome Titus T to our Thulani family. Titus is an affectionate boy who is learning to enjoy the luxury of foster life.  Titus was surrendered to a local LA shelter after being left alone in a chain link yard neglected and having to fend for himself. The shelter neutered him and removed a mass from his neck before he found his way to Thulani. He is now settling into his foster home where he is receiving much needed love and attention as we learn more about him.  UPDATE:  Titus has settled nicely into his foster home. It took him a week or two to get settled because he is blind and needed to learn the layout of his new surroundings. He is a very laid back boy. He loves people and other dogs, calmly greeting them with a wagging tail and sniffs. He does well with the teens in the foster home as well as a younger child who visits. Titus likes to take short, slow walks and is a model citizen on a leash. He has access to the backyard throughout the day, but he likes to sleep on his soft pillow in the house. He is very relaxed, eager to please boy who enjoys chewing on toys if he isn’t napping. Titus is eager to find his forever family.
