Alfie, short for Alfonso, is a sweet young orange tabby cat who was found living in an outdoor cat colony in DC. He was trapped, neutered, and released back into his colony, but a nearby neighbor took note of how friendly he was and decided to see if he'd be interested in living indoors. Turns out that he loves indoor living, and has adjusted well to it.  He's described as curious, a little mischievous, can settle down for long naps but also likes to explore/pace around. He absolutely loves belly rubs and really enjoys the company of other cats. We'd like to see Alfie adopted into a home where he'd have a feline friend. His sister, Mac, is also available for adoption. Alfie is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and tested negative for FIV/Felv. Alfie's adoption fee is $175. If you adopt 2 kittens, the fee is $150 per kitten. If you are interested in learning more about Alfie, please contact Heather at cat-coordinator@paw-rescue.org. Looking for a new best friend? Avery might be that guy. He is a 3-year-old, 17 lb shih tzu mix. Avery was found as a stray and is much happier in a home. He is easy going and enjoys hanging out with his family. Avery can be a little aloof until he gets to know you. However once he does, he is happy to join you on the sofa or take a nap at your feet. He gets along with his foster family’s small dogs. Avery has nice house manners and has had some housetraining previously. He enjoys walking on a leash. Boots is a 4 year old, 58 lb American Foxhound mix. that loves to be outside! He has a great nose, and loves to explore by smelling new things in new places. He is house trained and leash trained, and is great with other dogs and children. Boots is still a puppy at heart, and needs lots of play and time running outside. He also loves toys and inside play with his humans, and long naps in his crate (his favorite place). Boots is a great dog and would be a great addition to any family.   show less

Bootsie is a sweet black and white long haired female cat who was found in a cat colony in Harpers Ferry, WV. Despite living with many outdoor feral cats, Bootsie is very friendly and was clearly a housecat at some point. Our vet estimates Bootsie at 4-6 years old. After about a week living indoors, Bootsie has adjusted to life inside and loves to be petted and brushed by her foster mom. She enjoys sitting and sleeping with her foster mom and loves to play. Bootsie has been checked out by our vet and is in good health, though she has tested positive for FIV. FIV is not transmittable to humans and can only be transmitted to other cats via deep bite wounds. Cats in households with stable social structures where housemates do not fight are at little risk of acquiring FIV infections. In addition, research has shown that cats with FIV can live a lifespan as long as a non FIV cat. FIV should not be seen as a reason not to adopt! Bootsie's adoption fee is $125 and she is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Casper is an affectionate male cat with a lovely all white coat and beautiful green eyes. He was a stray in rural VA, and has made his way to PAW to find his forever home. He gets along with other cats, but does want to be the dominant cat in the household. Casper is a big chunk of a boy - solid, not overweight. He greets his foster mom with a twitching tail, signalling that he is glad to see her. He communicates in little mews and is generally a quiet boy. Casper has been neutered, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, has been microchipped and is up to date on his vaccines. If you are interested in Casper, please complete an application. Ellen, a 6 month old (as of Jan 2023), 22 lb., lab x has just arrived to PAW from Puerto Rico with her sisters, Tess, Frida, and Chloe. Ellen's foster mom says the following about her: She is a wonderful dog who is ready to go to a family; she is a very happy and sweet puppy. She is good around people - knows not to bite with her puppy teeth (so would be fine around kids). She is potty-trained too! She is very loving towards people and loves playdates with other dogs. She really enjoys to go on walks (still a bit nervous when trucks go by) and greets other dogs and people. She likes to be with her people and will hang out in whatever room you're in. She is a good sleeper at night; sleeps on her bed next to ours and stays in the crate when we're gone during the day (we have a dog walker on the day I have to go to work all day). Ford is a 6 month old brindle and white German shorthaired pointer mix puppy. He loves other dogs, is very smart and treat-motivated, and loves to relax on his human's lap. He arrived with his brother Chevy; they would love to be adopted together but can be adopted separately. Ford is a snuggle bug. While he likes to take a walk, he makes sure to take frequent breaks to give some love to his human.  He loves getting pets and wants to thank you with some kisses. Geneva is a 5 year old, 65lb treeing walker coonhound.  She has overcome much to get where she is and is ready for a forever home!  She's a cuddle bug who loves to crawl into bed with you and play around with other dogs like she's a puppy.  She does get the zoomies at home but some ball throws or a Himalayan cheese stick and she starts to settle down.  She is good with kids but not with cats as all she wants to do is chase them and play which can be a difficult situation for them.  She does need some work on command training but she is a quick learner!   PAW places animals in the Washington, DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area only. show less

Juliet is a 1 year 47 lb Labrador Retriever mix. She is a very sweet girl who loves to get (and give) kisses and cuddles. She is very energetic and loves her chew toys. She also loves a peanut butter and treat stuffed Kong to chew on. She is very food motivated for training. She would do best in a very active home with people that are willing to give her the time and exercise she needs and deserves. Please note that Juliet cannot go to a home with cats. Juliet is in training and is a very smart girl who has caught on very quickly!
