About Ludwig

Adoption Fee: $375

Ludwig is a 5 month old deaf puppy who appears to be a Dalmation mix.  His foster says he’s super smart and knows a handful of basic hand signals including come, sit, down, crate, and is working on stay. He is very close to being fully trained on both crate and house training. He’s really excited about Autumn, in particular the falling leaves and taking long walks in the cooler air with his favorite stick. He’s enjoyed field trips to local wineries, breweries and the park. He loves to meet new people, children, and especially dogs!  If he had it his way, he would spend all day running and playing with dogs big and small. He would probably do best in a house with another energetic dog, very energetic people or both.  He has not been cat tested yet.   He will be a great addition to an active, loving family committed to continued positive reinforcement training.

At the time you are seeing this post, Ludwig is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info.

*/*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/*

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $375.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.

*/*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.

*****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****

When people first meet Lacey they always comment on what beautiful big eyes she has, and she sure knows how to use them! But she also has such nice long legs for a little dog, making her quite the walking partner. She is a 2 ½ year old beagle who has a hilarious strut and LOVES to go for walkies and "sniffaris."  She enjoys meeting up with neighborhood dogs of all shapes and sizes for her walks, and she gets very excited to see people she has met as well. She is a great yard and garden supervisor, and enjoys her opportunities to sunbathe and do rollies in the grass. She also proudly takes on the role of the nosey neighborhood watch from her foster home's deck. Lacey does seem to enjoy having a doggy companion/sibling in the home, but prefers a housemate that knows to respect her space. She is good about being crated for meal time, bed time, and when the human is away from the home, but she sure does love to do zoomies when that crate door opens! She is not much of a barker in the home or out in the yard, but instead more of a thoughtful observer. Lacey does take medicine for some generalized anxiety, but it is very manageable and the medicine is fairly affordable. She is not a huge fan of car rides, but if you can walk someplace, she will go absolutely anywhere with you! We are looking for a home with no children, a predictable schedule, patience to let her blossom, and a commitment to positive reinforcement training. Her Foster Mom has been sharing her adventures on Instagram at @threehoundnight! At the time you are seeing this post, Lacey is still available for adoption. Panda is a Black and white Siberian husky male around 6 months old. He is 100% a typical high energy Siberian puppy. Panda is a sweet boy, affectionate and loves people. He is being introduced to crating with quite a bit of protest but housebreaking is going rather well. Panda needs a family with Siberian or working dog experience, who can continue training and give him lots of exercise. He will need a secure, 6 ft, Siberian-proof fence if he is not on leash. He will also need an owner in a stand alone home who is happy to listen to the song of his people as he holds true to the typical Siberian propensity to sing.  He needs a home with no cats and with older kids only as he still needs to learn not to jump up on people. Sweet Rain is a Black and white female Siberian husky around 6 months old.  She is a typical high energy girl and true to her breed, loves to chat you up. Rain is a sweetheart, affectionate with people and is even willing to sit in your lap ….but like any woman, only when it's her idea. She is smart, inquisitive, and notices everything. Rain loves to run and is very athletic, her house-breaking and manners are going well but will need continued work. She will require a 6 ft. Siberian-proof fence and secure gates if she is off leash. She will probably be best in a home without young children as she still needs to learn not to jump, and in a home with no cats. Rain needs a Siberian-savvy family, who can laugh at her antics but stay a step ahead of this free-spirited girl.   At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. Reese is a young female, approximately 18 months old,  English Shepherd (possibly mixed) available for adoption through Green Dogs Unleashed in Troy, VA, being fostered in Salem, VA. She had a rough start in life and was brought to GDU with a bunch of her own 6 month old puppies, a bunch of younger puppies and another adult dog. As far as we know she's spent her whole life outside with little or no exposure to the world outside her pen. Every single thing in the world is new for her. While she is certainly fearful, cautious, and sometimes loudly reactive to new things, just as often, she bounces back remarkably quickly considering her past. She has been fully vetted and spayed. She learned to be a house dog literally overnight. She has wonderful house manners, is house trained (though she is very subtle about telling a human she needs to go outside, when given occasion to go out at reasonable intervals, she will happily wait until offered an outside opportunity in order to use the bathroom). She attempted counter surfing for a few days before quickly realizing there isn't anything yummy up there but she does get good things by keeping her paws on the ground. She hasn't attempted counter surfing since. Reese LOVES other dogs. Big dogs, little dogs, male dogs, female dogs, old dogs, young dogs, playful dogs, calm dogs.. Reese doesn't care, she loves them all and is incredible adept at winning over even the most reticent dogs. In fact, having other dogs around has been the most helpful factor in getting her to come out of her shell. Reese also adores dog-savvy cats! Her feline foster brother is so far not interested in playing with her. She has been very respectful yet very persistent in her clownish overtures and we suspect he'll soon cave to her invitations. Reese is a medium to high velcro girl who wants to be wherever her foster mom is. She solicits petting and attention without being demanding. She has discovered toys and loves to play with them; she is a total clown and keeps everyone laughing by inventing new ways to play with toys by herself and with her foster siblings. She hasn't yet figured out playing with a human but she seems interested in learning and her foster mom doesn't think it will be long before she's playing tug with people like she does with dogs. She has limited interest in fetch, preferring to chase, herd, and bite at the heels of her foster brother while he chases the balls and Frisbee but will likely be able to figure out chasing a toy given time. She's learning about leashes and leash walking and does very well with quiet walks in the woods with her foster brother. So! What are the downsides, you ask? Well, as much as she is making great strides, the world can still be very scary for her. We are hopeful that given time and patience she will continue to overcome her fears but we aren't sure just how far she'll easily come with patience and training, and which things will always be a bit of a stretch for her. However at this point in time she struggles with: Strangers - she is slow to warm up to new people and may (or may not) run, hide, cower, freeze, or bark reactively at them. This reaction may last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes to even longer, depending on the context. Sudden Environmental Change (SEC) - herding breeds are bred to notice changes in the environment and Reese is no exception. For her these changes are often very scary. For example, if someone has been sitting, then gets up and moves, or if someone leaves a room and re-enters it, she often reacts loudly and runs away and it can take her a considerable amount of time to recover. She does not do this with her foster mom but for example would react this way to a weekend guest throughout the weekend. Cars - they're scary! We're working on building confidence to get into a car. Loud noises - gunshots, yelling, etc, are scary The ideal home for Reese would be a quiet home without a lot of chaos, frequent visitors or young, unpredictable children. Another dog and/or cat to play with would be wonderful. She absolutely needs a human that is willing to be patient with her and build trust, and slowly but surely show her that the world is a safe place and help her build confidence. Experience with fearful or reactive dogs would be a huge plus. The person who is willing to put in that love and care will get in return a happy, silly, loyal and smart constant companion who wants nothing but to be by your side and making you smile. There is a truly special, once in a lifetime dog underneath the trauma and anyone willing to meet her where she is and support her will be very lucky to have her. At the time you are seeing this post, Reese is still available for adoption.
