Missy is a beautiful, 6-year old, recently-spayed Golden Girl who spent most of her life as a breeder Mom at a puppy mill. Despite this history, she adjusted almost instantly to living in a foster home with 2 other dogs and a cat (all of whom she’s been indifferent to). She doesn’t require dog siblings in her forever home, but another calm dog could help build her confidence and show her the ropes as she learns about the world – and maybe teach her what a dog toy is! Missy is more comfortable around calm dogs than high-energy ones (she has one of each in her foster home). We don’t know exactly what life was like at the puppy mill, but it probably wasn’t a very social environment. She has lots of catching up to do, but her foster family is impressed with how far she’s come in a short time. She is not crate trained but has been easily confined in a short, 6’x3’ ex-pen in a kitchen when her foster family is gone, and overnight. Missy is quite relaxed in the house, and has been left alone for 4 hours during the day with no problems. Meeting new people is a bit scary for her, but after that hurdle she becomes a major love sponge who adores being brushed, petted, and fussed over. There are no children in her foster home, but we understand she’s done well with children over 10 yrs. old in the past. Missy is very adaptable and her confidence increases with each new positive experience. Incredibly smart and eager to please, once she gets her bearings she’ll be a joy to train. She will do best with a gentle, patient, experienced dog owner who can help her learn about basic obedience training, becoming better socialized, and not bolting through doors. She’s a strong, 75 lb. gal who needs to get more exercise and shed about 10 lbs. Missy gets several short walks during the day to take care of business, and is always happy to head back inside to the air conditioning! Her quiet foster home seems a good match for her laid-back personality. She is content to just hang out, go for walks, and explore her new surroundings a little bit at a time. Missy is excited to see her new world unfold, and has a tremendous amount of love and joy to bring her special forever family.
