Anna is a wonderful dog for the right owner. She is a loyal 4 year old American Bulldog Mix who loves attention. She is affectionate, very social with humans and has done well with her foster parents'  4 year old nephew. Belle Star, a 1 year old, 40 lb., hound mix dog, is as beautiful as her name. PAW volunteers and kennel staff say the following: Sweet Belle takes a minute to get to know you and is well worth the wait. She quietly walks with you, her tail tucked until there is trust. It won't take long until you see her personality and that straight up tail gently wagging with curiosity and delight. She is easy to walk and never pulls. Belle loves sniffing and takes one rest break per walk. She lies down in the grass and you wonder if she will get up and finish the walk. After a minute of zen and a friendly chat she gets right up like she never stopped.  She thrives in her own space and can be destructive if left alone, at least at first. She needs a family that will be patient with her and help her feel comfortable in her new home and establish a space for her to feel safe. She would do best with at least one other dog in the home; dogs help her feel more secure and at ease in her environment. Belle Star would do best in a rural or quiet suburban environment in a townhouse or single family home. City life in an apartment is not for her. Benson is an 8-year-old yorkshire terrier mix, weighing in at 10lbs.   He is potty-trained, crate-trained, and good in the house.   Benson loves to be with his people.  He is energetic and playful, loves to play with toys and balls.    He loves to meet new people but has to be properly introduced.  He can be stressed and a little nervous.   He does not like people coming up to him and petting his head or back...would you want strangers doing that?!    Benson is blind in his left eye, so that may be a contributing factor.   Benson loves to go on walks and mark every tree.  He is quite energetic and will even run.  He enjoys sitting on his foster family's deck, in their backyard,  or by the front window and monitor the neighborhood to let you know if dogs walk by!   He does not seem overly fond of other dogs.  On walks he can be a bit barky and even nippy.   For this reason, he would probably do best as the only dog.   He also needs to be in a home with adults only or teenagers 15+, no young kids, and a house or townhouse environment.   Apartment living is not for him.     If you want a little guy who will absolutely adore you, and serve as a body guard,  Benson is the dog for you! ***COURTESY POST***** Bobo, an 8 year old, 60 lb., Amstaff is living with his current mom, who says the following about him: Bobo had a very rough first few years of life. I adopted him from a kill shelter where he had been brought after being found chewed up by other dogs in a ditch. He had heartworm and terrible anxiety. Over the last four years that I've had him, he's turned into a whole new dog. He is a low energy dog that enjoys resting around the house and laying with you while you watch tv. His favorite things are being loved and food. He always brings a "present" to greet you when you open the front door whether it's a toy or a pair of underwear. He is quirky and loving and absolutely loves car rides. He holds the leash in his mouth when he's excited to go out for a walk. Bobo enjoys playing tug of war with his stuffed animal lamp chop toys. He gets along great with people and has been exposed to kids from age 5 and up. He enjoys short walks or hikes in areas without other dogs around. He can't walk more than a mile or two at most. He does lunge at dogs when on leash and doesn't get along with other dogs. He knows commands like sit but will usually only comply if a treat is involved. He is housebroken. He is afraid of storms and hides in the bathroom during them. The ideal owner would have a fenced-in backyard with no other dogs or cats. He would do well with someone dog-savvy with patience. It breaks my heart to have to depart with Bobo because I love him more than anything. I just don't have the ability to properly care for him anymore in the way that he deserves. Boots is a 4 year old, 58 lb American Foxhound mix. that loves to be outside! He has a great nose, and loves to explore by smelling new things in new places. He is house trained and leash trained, and is great with other dogs and children. Boots is still a puppy at heart, and needs lots of play and time running outside. He also loves toys and inside play with his humans, and long naps in his crate (his favorite place). Boots is a great dog and would be a great addition to any family.   show less

‘BUDDY’ is a handsome, male, Tabby kitten who was born in March 2022. Buddy is a healthy, active, and affectionate kitten! Buddy is an even-tempered, precious, little guy who is described by his foster mom as “everyone’s friend”. This 4 month old, adorable kitten is the largest of his litter. Buddy is always quick to explore new things and play with toys! Buddy is ready for placement in his forever home!  Buddy is up to date on all age appropriate treatments and vaccinations - including his first Rabies vaccine, as well as having been neutered and microchipped. Carlos is small, all grey male who was rescued from an outdoor colony nearly a year ago. After being in the shelter for more than 6 months, PAW pulled him and brought him to a foster home where he could decompress and mellow into his true self. We know that Carlos wants attention - when he was in the shelter, he'd meow for someone to come over, but then when they did, he was anxious. He was so anxious that he would scratch himself on his face which left a scar that doesn't seem to want to grow hair back. We know it's from the scratching because he's been thoroughly tested negative for ringworm or other skin aliments and isn't itching anywhere else. He's come out of his shell a bit in the last 6 weeks that he's been in his foster home. He is very food motivated and his foster mom has been using treats to gain his trust. It's important to Carlos' long term happiness that he have a kitty companion or two - he really loves the other animals in the home and their companionship. Carlos uses scratching posts and has had no litterbox issues. He is up to date on his vaccinations, negative for FIV/Felv, and is neutered and microchipped. Denver is a 5 year old, 75lb Coonhound mix. He is a very handsome boy and gets lots of compliments when on walks about his look and his behavior on a leash.  He loves walks, hikes and even trail rides on bike with his person (using the gentle leader leash). He loves the sun and would do nothing all day if the sun didn’t move around. He is crate trained and will “go to his room” easily. He is potty trained and will stay in his crate from bedtime until morning!   On walks he will stop to say hi, but would rather keep walking and sniffing. He does fine in a dog park, but mostly stiffs the whole place instead of playing. He is good with older kids, not good with cats and not sure about other animals including a live-in dog. Visiting dogs are fine. Denver knows sit, stay, come, place, bang, roll over, off, walk, car ride, room, leave it is not perfect (but the picture with a poop toy on his head is a good example of him leaving it). It's fun to teach him new tricks and he really enjoys learning. He is not allowed on furniture because he gets very protective of spaces. He is food motivated which helps with training. Denver would love to exerience the best match possible, most likely a home with adults only that are willing to maintain clear boundaries. show less

Hi! I’m Fritz, a 2 year old, 12 lb chihuahua mix that was found as a stray. I may have some trust issues and am not afraid to express my opinions. Therefore, I would probably do best in an all adult, chihuahua experienced home. I enjoy playing with my stuffed ball, taking neighborhood walks on a leash, and following my people around the house. I mostly like other small dogs but, at times, can be selective. No one likes everyone! I’m doing well with my housetraining and may need some gentle reminders initially. Geneva is a 5 year old, 65lb treeing walker coonhound.  She has overcome much to get where she is and is ready for a forever home!  She's a cuddle bug who loves to crawl into bed with you and play around with other dogs like she's a puppy.  She does get the zoomies at home but some ball throws or a Himalayan cheese stick and she starts to settle down.  She is good with kids but not with cats as all she wants to do is chase them and play which can be a difficult situation for them.  She does need some work on command training but she is a quick learner!   PAW places animals in the Washington, DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area only. show less

He likes to play with toys, he can play alone or with his people.
