About Jimi

Meet Jimi:  Jimi is an adorable Pit mix that is 2 years old and weighs 56 pounds. Jimi was rescued hours before he was to be euthanized in a high kill shelter. Jimi is one of the sweetest dogs we have met.  Jimi is very affectionate, gets along with other dogs, loves to be around people and is house trained and crate trained. Jimi also walks on the leash very well and loves to go for car rides. Jimi is great with children and would love nothing more than to snuggle with you on the couch. You will absolutely fall in love with this boy when you meet him. Jimi is up-to-date on all of his shots, neutered and going through heartworm treatment. Jimi will require a home with a fenced in yard and a family that wants lots of kisses and affection.  If you are interested in adopting this very special boy please go to our website at charliescrusaders.org and fill out our adoption application.

Meet Duke: Duke is a 2 year old lab mix that weighs about 100 pounds. Duke’s owner was an elderly veteran who suddenly passed away. His wife is scheduled for a surgery that will require months of rehab and unfortunately is unable to provide the necessary care to these 2 active brothers. Duke and his brother Jake are littermates that currently live together, however they do not need to be adopted together. They are both loved, family dogs. Duke is a silly, clown of a dog. He makes friends fast, but still requires a slow introduction.  Once he warms up, the game is own. Duke loves to play ball and tease others. He shows he wants love by placing his paw on your lap. Duke is athletic and can climb and dig. He has high energy and needs active workouts. Duke enjoys the outdoors, but tends to be the first one wanting to come in from playtime.  If he is excited he tends to want to jump, but responds to “No jumping”.  Duke can sit and heel on command. Duke likes to swim. Duke has not been around cats or small children, but loves the teenagers he has been around. Duke has shown no aggression, but does show interest in baby ducks. Duke is house trained.  Duke is up to date on his shots and neutered. Hi! I’m Ziva, an 18 month old, 55 lb Belgian Malanois. I’m spayed, UTD on all vaccines and on monthly preventatives. Please take the time to read all about me if you think I could be your girl! I can’t wait to do a meet-and-greet with you!   My Ideal family  Small family, two to three people would be ideal. I need a calm environment without young children though, that is a must.  I HAVE to have an active family: see my likes below  I would love to have a playmate about the same size! I just need a calm, supervised and proper introduction. I really do love to play with other dogs! I live with a cat at my FP’s house. I’m good with her, we chase each other equally. Sometimes I try to play with her like a 50 lb dog, the cat puts me in my place when that happens. However, outside I’m very prey driven.  My favorite things My humans; I need to be with you as much as humanly possible as I don’t do well left alone.  Talking! I’m a very vocal girl. You’ll know when I’m sad, playful, scared want your attention or when a bird has landed in a tree and I need to protect the universe from inside the house! Just tell me “Ziva stop!” And I’ll stop barking..usually. Sometimes I need to be guided away from the doors or windows and I calm right down though.  Elk Antlers (I’m an aggressive chewer when I’m bored and these give me a challenge, ie, “The Malagator” nickname my breed has) knotted rope toys/tug of war, playing catch/chase with my Kong ball and wrestling with my foster dad.   Long walks (I walk 2-6 miles a day split between two walks with my foster mom depending on weather and how many times she hits the snooze button), jogs, runs, hikes, swimming and chasing grasshoppers. I need an active family as I’m an active girl…but that’s my breed. I’m great on a leash but if there’s a lot of distractions, I’ll pull quite a bit.  Snuggling with my humans whenever possible. Couch, bed, or floor. I’m not picky! Winter is coming and I’m great at keeping you warm! Treats, if there’s a treat to be given by anyone, I’m the girl to sniff it out & take it gently.  Other dogs my size! Love to play with dogs but I need a slow and calm environment for introductions.  Shoes…you’ve been warned to put them away if you do need to leave me alone. Puppachinos from Starbucks are heaven! You get your pumpkin spiced latte, don’t forget me!! Dislikes Young males. My FP’s aren’t sure what exactly happened in my past but I do not like them, at all. I’m instantly stressed and go to guard/defensive mode in the house. Outside, when shopping at Home Depot, Pet Smart or walking in the park, I’m better with them, but for everyone’s safety, my FP’s don’t let them approach or pet. Kennels, if there’s a door, I’m not going to go in, at all, never ever. My FP’s have travel kennel with the door removed that I like to lay down in and relax. If the door goes on though, I’m not going near it for anything. If you try to put me in, I’ll go into scared defensive mode. Being cornered, again, I’ll go into scared defensive mode. Just give me space and a minute or two to come to you if I do find myself in a corner the first couple weeks we’re getting to know each other.  Vacuums, lawnmowers, weed eaters and such. I won’t bark, chase or attack but I will definitely steer clear Alexa, not sure why I don’t like her but I’m very vocal towards her and wish she’d just stop talking. Lol Nail trimming or dremel, I have to be sedated. The vet prescribes medication for this. I’m just not a mani/pedi kinda girl.  Training  What I know so far: heel, whoa, sit, stay, wait, free, place, shake, gentle, give, climb, off and back  What I’m learning: down, leave it and recall.  I train and respond best with training treats and praise  Although my foster mom has worked with me quite a bit, I could really do with some professional training to help me along to be the best girl I can be. I know all these commands, but I can be stubborn on when I want to listen. I’m basically a teenager though so I have to be told a few times. Lol show less
