About Frida T

Adoption Fee: $...no adoption fee, medical coverage provided for life

Update (July 2022): Frida T is letting her wonderful personality shine in her foster home.  Like many German Shepherds, Frida is a true velcro dog.  She follows her foster mom everywhere and wants to be close to her humans.  She is a very affectionate girl who regularly asks for attention.  She loves her furry legged foster siblings and often tries to play with them, always with a wagging tail and lots of excitement.  After watching her foster siblings, Frida is learning to play with toys.  She loves anything that squeaks.  Frida’s leash manners have improved since arriving at her foster home and taking daily walks.  She still needs guidance as she will take over control if her handler allows her.  However, with an experienced handler she walks much better. Frida is a beauty who is ready to settle down and find her family who will love her forever.

Frida T Summary:
- Female, 11 yrs old, 77 pounds, current on shots
- Good with adults, kids, dogs, and travels well in the car

Introducing Frida T:  We are thrilled to have Frida T join the Thulani family.  Until now, Frida has lived her life in a loving home.  She was surrendered to Thulani when her owner moved into an assisted living facility.  Frida is settling wonderfully into her foster home.  She is a gentle, affectionate girl that loves attention.  She enjoys knowing her humans are close, but also likes the freedom of relaxing by herself.  Frida is friendly when greeting people -- she loves the extra attention.  She would appreciate a quieter home without too much commotion where she can provide companionship to her humans.  She can be a little grumpy when she first meets dogs, but within a few minutes she considers the new furry members her friends.  Frida loves going for walks, but she could use some extra training as she is persistently inquisitive of anything with an interesting smell.  She rides well in the car and is potty trained.  Frida is a very loving girl who is ready to find someone to love her for the rest of her days.

Frida passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into TSGSR.  The tests are not intended to assess how smart the dog is but are important for TSGSR to determine if the dog is expected to be safe in a family home.  The tested behaviors check to see if the dog will guard or protect food or toys from people, will tolerate handling all over its body (including ears, nose, lips to check teeth, lifting paws, belly, back, and gently pulling the tail).  She remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.

What's Next for Frida T:
Frida has been checked out by our vet and is ready for her forever home!  If you are interested, please apply now!  Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that Frida is well cared for.  She will come to your home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys.

Update (Sept 2022):  Buck T is settling into his foster home.  He loves people, greeting everyone with lots of kisses and a tail that never stops wagging.  He loves his walks and would be a great hiking buddy.  He’s making progress on his leash manners, though sometimes he forgets to contain his enthusiasm!  When he’s ready for a nap, Buck will lay down anywhere and sleep, but his favorite place is on a soft bed or blanket.  He is very athletic and sometimes can’t resist the good food smells from the countertop, helping himself just to make sure it’s as good as it smells.  He is working on self-improvement.  Buck is a handsome boy who is ready to explore the world with his forever family.  Buck T Summary: - Male, 10 yrs old, 68 pounds - Good with adults, kids, dogs - TBD - cats Introducing Buck T:  Welcome to Thulani Buck T!  Buck came from a shelter in the Central Valley and is just starting to settle into his new surroundings at Thulani Central.  Buck is extremely friendly, greeting everyone with a wagging tail.  He enjoys long walks, and has great mobility for a senior.  Despite some squirming and nervousness about his new environment, Buck has lots of potential.  We are so excited to learn more about Buck as he settles into the Thulani family.  Buck passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into TSGSR. This dog remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.      What's Next for Buck T:  Buck has been checked out by our vet and is ready to find his forever home!  If you are interested in adopting, please apply now!  Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that he is well cared for.  He will come to your home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys.  show less

NEW ARRIVAL!  Welcome to Thulani Butch T!  Butch was surrendered by his owner to a shelter in Southern California due to the owner’s medical issues.  After an exciting plane flight, Butch is settling in at Thulani Central.  Butch is a friendly boy who loves human interaction.  He loves pets, cuddles,  giving gentle kisses, and just being with people.  He does well with other dogs, but prefers when they are not in his face.  When confronted by other dogs, he calmly walks away.  He would do well with another dog as long as they respect his personal bubble.  He ignored the cat at his foster home, so could likely coexist with another cat.  Butch pulls a little bit on a leash, but with training could improve quickly.  There is just so much to sniff and explore!  He has some stiffness in his hind legs that comes up occasionally, but he still can get in and out of a car without assistance.  He loves his toys, and carries them around the house constantly.  When he is tired, Butch enjoys relaxing naps on the couch.  Butch is an incredible dog who deserves a family to love him forever.  Butch T Summary: - Male, 12 yrs old, current on shots - Good with adults, kids, dogs, cats, and travel in the car - Currently located in Northern California Butch passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into the TSGSR. He remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.       What's Next for Butch T: Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that Butch is well cared for.  Butch will be checked out by our vets and will be ready for adoption soon.  TSGSR is beginning a search for an adoptive home that will care for him for the rest of his life, so please let us know if you are interested.  He will come to his new home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys.  If you want to learn more or are interested in possibly providing an adoptive or foster home, please send us a message by clicking on the "Ask About Me" button.  We will often get feedback or "updates" from a dog's foster home and as any updates become available they will be included here.  If you would like to help Thulani save more dogs, please consider setting up a monthly donation for dog care and Donate Online Through PayPal . show less

Update (Aug 2022):  Coso T has made incredible progress in just a few short weeks!  His skin is improving and he is beginning to regrow fur!  We can't wait to watch his transformation.   Introducing Coso T:  Welcome to a better life Coso T!  Coso came to us in horrific shape.  He is mostly hairless from the middle of his neck to the middle of his tail, and halfway down his legs – and much of his skin is severely damaged.  He has several yet to be diagnosed growths on his skin, and appears to have additional neurological issues impairing his hip mobility.  We are currently in the process of coordinating vet visits to figure out how we can help Coso rehabilitate.  Despite the severity of his various symptoms, Coso is an incredible dog who is thrilled to be getting a lot of much needed Thulani loving care.  Coso was surrendered to the shelter by his former owners.  Determined to leave his past behind, Coso is very social with people, happily introducing himself with a wagging wail and excited for attention.  Coso has integrated well with the other large dogs in his foster home.  He is also highly food motivated, gently taking treats when offered.  He is persistent in ensuring that he gets his fair share of treats when in a group of other dogs.  Thulani will be consulting with our veterinary team to develop the best plan to help Coso on his road to recovery.  Even with his skin condition and hip mobility issues, Coso demonstrates the persistence of his strong will.  Coso is determined that nothing will stop him.  His leash manners leave lots of room for improvement, but we trust that with time and encouragement he will catch on quickly.  Coso is on the long road towards recovery, and his best days are still ahead of him. Coso T Summary: - Male, 11 yrs old, 80 pounds - Good with adults, dogs of all sizes Coso passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into TSGSR. This dog remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.      What's Next for Coso T: Coso's skin infection is resolving and he was cleared for neuter by the vet.   He is recovering nicely from neuter and mass removal surgery.  Coso is on a treatment plan under the care of a dermatologist and he is ready for his forever home.   If you are interested in fostering or adoptiong, please apply now!  Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that he is well cared for.  He will come to your home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys.  show less

Introducing Gunther T:  Welcome to the Thulani family Gunther T!  Gunther came from a Southern CA shelter as a stray.  With lots of TLC (Thulani loving care), his coat is shining and he is ready to show it off at his forever home.  Gunther is a stunning, classic German Shepherd who easily garners a stranger's attention because of his beauty.  He is gentle and well mannered.  He politely greets people, warming up even more when he gets attention.  Gunther’s calm demeanor shows through when he greets other large dogs as well.  He loves going for walks, only occasionally pulling.  He does well on short car trips, but vocalizes his disappointment when the ride drags on too long.  Overall, he is a calm companion, and just wants to be close to his humans.  Gunther is an incredible dog, patiently awaiting his new family with whom to spend the rest of his life.  Gunther T Summary: - Male, 12 yrs old, 67 pounds, current on shots - Good with adults, dogs, and travels well in the car Gunther passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into TSGSR. This dog remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.      What's Next for Gunther T: Gunther has been checked out by our vet and is ready for adoption.  If you are interested, please apply now!  Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that he is well cared for.  He will come to your home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys.  show less

Update (Sept 2022): Harvey T recently had a sleepover at a volunteer’s house.  He thoroughly enjoyed himself, showing off all of his excellent qualities.  Harvey enjoyed running around the backyard with his temporary foster mom.  He loved his walks, and is a perfect gentleman on a leash.  Harvey did very well with the resident dog and was excited to follow the humans around the house.  Harvey is a loving, easy going dog who is eagerly awaiting his final move home to his forever family.  Update (April 2022):  Oh what a difference a year makes!  Harvey T came to Thulani about a year ago suffering from moderate OCD--anxious, barky, some tail chasing, needy for attention.  He was also very skinny.  He has put on weight and today he is a handsome, filled out, eye catching GSD.  Harvey’s anxiety has receded, he barely barks now, and he no longer chases his tail.  Harvey likes to lie close to the gate to his run and quietly watch the world around him.  His leash manners are pretty good, and he is friendly to all people he meets.  Harvey has a good appetite, loves frozen marrow bones, takes treats appropriately from a flat hand, and likes some toys and balls.  Harvey T is a good boy who wants to live his best life with you.  He is so ready to leave Thulani Central and would love to meet you, so please let us know if you are interested in him.   Harvey T Summary: - Male, 12 yrs old, 70 lbs, current on shots - Good with Adults, dogs, and travel in the car - No Cats; Children TBD Introducing Harvey T:  Harvey is a handsome, “younger senior” German Shepherd Dog who was found stray and taken to a shelter in northern California.  Harvey was stressed in the shelter but very sweet with the people who cared for him.  He was very snuggly with the staff but would bark often trying to get attention.  Harvey adjusted to his home at Thulani Central with the help of our dedicated volunteer dog walkers.  Volunteers noticed that he is motivated by treats but is a bit assertive when taking treats from the hand.  Harvey will benefit from a strong leader and could also benefit from a refresher on basic obedience training as is common for many rescue dogs.  Harvey takes direction well and has a friendly disposition towards humans, which bodes well for his making minor corrections to his behavior such as pulling on the leash while walking and barking when seeking attention.  Thulani volunteers are working with him and he responds well to corrections.  Despite his tendency to pull on the leash, he walked calmly past all of the barking dogs on his way out of the shelter.  He likes to chase a ball and is very interested in his surroundings but does not want to be left behind or ignored.  Harvey will likely establish a strong bond over time with a confident leader. Harvey passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into the TSGSR.  The tests are not intended to assess how smart the dog is but are important for TSGSR to determine if the dog is expected to be safe in a family home.   The tested behaviors check to see if the dog will guard or protect food or toys from people, will tolerate handling all over its body (including ears, nose, lips to check teeth, lifting paws, belly, back, and gently pulling the tail) and the ability to get along with other well behaved dogs.  He remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.       What's Next for Harvey T: Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that Harvey is well cared for.  TSGSR is looking for adoptive home that will care for him for the rest of his life.  He will come to his new home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys. If you want to learn more about Harvey, or are interested in possibly providing an adoptive or foster home, please send us a message by clicking on the "Ask About Me" button.  We will often get feedback or "updates" from a dog's foster home and as any updates become available they will be included here. SadieAnn T. is a gentle, affectionate 11-year-old female German Shepherd Dog.  She was adopted by an older couple as a puppy.  They cared for her until her “mom” passed away and her “dad” was moved to a senior care facility where SadieAnn could not live.  She was turned over to the animal shelter where she was confused but eager to be with people and very friendly to everyone who came along.  Due to her age, she was unlikely to find a new home without the help of Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue.  During her time at Thulani Central, we learned that she has no obvious medical problems, good mobility and knows a lot of commands.  She is fine with other dogs and is very open to meeting new dogs and new people.  SadieAnn loves to be with people – she comes right up and asks for snuggles.  She is good on leash and getting even better with practice.  SadieAnn is a medium energy dog who really wants to have a new family to love.  UPDATE:  SadieAnn has been thriving in her foster home.  She is a social butterfly who loves adults and even young children.  She is very affectionate and playful.  She likes to show off her goofy side and in true shepherd fashion shows off her vocalness as well.  Her favorite toy is a ball and she insists on always having one in her mouth.  SadieAnn loves her walks, but she can be insistent in following all of the interesting things she smells.  She is an athletic girl with medium energy who can’t wait to find a family who will give her all the attention she craves. SadieAnn T. Summary: - Female, 11 yrs old, weighs 67lbs, current on shots - Good with Adults, older children and travel in the car - Cats TBD - Located in Northern California SadieAnn passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into the TSGSR. Kobuk, one of our shelter test dogs, thinks she is beautiful and sweet and says you should adopt her.   Check back often.  We will be updating her bio as we learn more about her! What's Next for SadieAnn T: Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that SadieAnn  is well cared for and receives all medical care needed for her well being while in our care.  In addition, TSGSR is beginning a search for an adoptive home that will care for her for the rest of her life.  She will come to his new home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys. There is no adoption fee.  If you want to learn more about SadieAnn, or are interested in possibly providing an adoptive or foster home, please send us a message by clicking on the "Ask About Me" button.  We will often get feedback or "updates" from a dog's foster home and as any updates become available they will be included here.
