About Jag

Looking for a fetch buddy and a playmate for your pup? Meet Jag, a 2.5 year old doggo weighing in at 44 pounds!

Jag can be a little shy at first and likes to approach new people on his own terms, especially men, so would probably do best in a home with a doggie sibling to help show him the ropes and to help build his confidence. He would also like a home with a fenced in yard and one that has a healthy amount of toys, especially those of the squeaky variety.

Jag is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all of his vaccinations, dewormed and has been on heartworm and flea prevention while in our care. His adoption fee is $200 and you can apply to meet this handsome boy at MPRAVL.org!

BONDED PAIR: Simba is a handsome, large, orange boy. He is quiet, but more outgoing than his bonded brother, Ninja. Often times, Simba will stand on his hind legs and caress his person with outstretched arms.  He loves to utilize a variety of scratching toys : sisal posts and carpeted cat posts, and is fond of playing with the little plastic strips that are on gallon containers of milk & water. Given the opportunity, I think both Simba and Ninja would be accepting of another cat or older quiet dog.  Simba has what seems to be an old eye injury that flared up recenty.  With a few days of a steroid drop, it cleared up but there could be a recurrence on occassion.  There is a surgery that could be done if it became an ongoing issue not managed by medication and we can explain that further to any potential adopter.   Simba loves to play with bottle caps. He rather have this over toys! Simba is a very quiet cat, sometimes you don't know he's even around! He gets startled easily around loud noises. He is good around kids as long as they are not to loud or otherwise he will go and hide. Simba and NInja were recently returned due to no fault of their own.  They have been together since they were adopted from MPR as kittens in June of 2021.  Meet them at PetSmart, Bleachery Blvd, on Saturday from 12-4pm.  They are currently in a foster home.     All cats and kittens have been spayed/neutered, FELV/FIV tested, microchipped, vaccinated (whatever they can have in the period they are in our care, some will still need additional vaccines after adoption), given dewormer and flea preventative and provided care for any known illnesses during their time with us.     Apply to adopt to coordinate a meet and greet with this lovely pair of boys! show less

I’m a sweet, active, curious brown tabby with a whole lot of love and silliness to give. I’ve come a long way in foster care, from being scared of hands and running off to hide to happily climbing into my foster dad’s lap and draping my arms across my foster mom’s hands to ask for more pets and treats. In fact, I’ve become a love bug. I enjoy greeting people when they come home or enter a room. I’ve been around big dogs, and after a few days of me telling them who’s boss, I’ll even curl up with them. I’m curious about other cats and am eager to make friends with them. I love to play with toys. A wand toy is the best way to help me settle in, along with lots of treats (I can be bribed) and petting me while I eat. It took me a week to settle in at my foster parents’ home. I might get scared of your hand at first if you approach my head, so it’s best to start scratching my back and butt. Go slow with me, give me treats, and I’ll learn to trust you. We’ll be besties for life.  My litter box skills are on point, and I eat well, both dry food and canned food. Did I mention I like treats?  If you have room to bring home some extra silliness, please consider adopting my sister, Norreen, too. We’ll keep you smiling and laughing for hours! He and his sister, Norreen, were in foster together.  Now they are at PetSmart, Bleachery Blvd, waiting to meet you Wednesday, 6-8 pm or Saturday, 12-4pm.   Get $50 off the combined adoption fee when adopting a pair of kittens.  All cats and kittens have been spayed/neutered, FELV/FIV tested, microchipped, vaccinated (whatever they can have in the period they are in our care, some will still need additional vaccines after adoption), given dewormer and flea preventative and provided care for any known illnesses during their time with us.    show less

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue.  Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website.  Contact bvlocke@gmail.com for more information or to adopt the pet. Taco is a goofy, gentle QUIET giant who is eager to please! This big boy is 100% house-trained and loves a good squeaky toy and a nice comfy bed. Taco was recently rescued from euthanasia and is set on making his remaining years the best yet. Saved from an untimely end, he is truly just happy to be alive (even if he doesn't know how close he was). Taco is approximately 8-9 years old and weighs 89 pounds. There is some debate on his breed. Due to his brindle coloring, the shelter said he was likely a Plott Hound mix. Plott Hound owners and lovers have hotly contested this, so unless Taco submits to a doggy DNA test, we won't know for sure. He is, without a doubt, completely house-trained and does not bark! Taco is not a fan of cats, so please keep them away from him. As for other dogs, Taco is unsure. Sometimes he wants to play/go see them, other times he is indifferent. As for kids, it was noted that Taco doesn't like them, but if this is true, it's probably the younger ones. Taco would likely do well with older children.  Taco loves to be where his foster mom is. Even though they live in a smaller apartment, he must be right there behind her. He loves to sleep on the big human bed, and sleeps well all through the night. Taco enjoys a good treat and does not beg for human food. He would do well with some basic training, just so he doesn't pull on the leash quite so hard.  Taco is up to date on all of his vaccines and is neutered. He is currently living in Winston-Salem, NC, but can be transported pretty much anywhere (within reason), including Asheville, NC. He invites you to check out his instagram at www.instagram.com/itsalwaystacotuesday where you can see his personality shine. Taco truly is a wonderfully well-behaved dog and would make such a fun addition to anyone's life. Thackery is a gentle and sweet-natured brown tabby. He spent the first part of his life living outside, but now he has learned he enjoys things such as making a nest of his favorite blankets, sampling as many cat treats as you’ll give him, and playing with wand toys. He is a laid-back boy and is happiest when he is spending quality cuddle time with his humans. This little guy is a lap cat and has been known to cuddle up on the couch and wait on his foster parents to come home so they can relax with him. Thackery is also a wonderful conversationalist, meowing and chirping to let his foster family know exactly how he is feeling. He gets along well with the other cat in his foster home, and will snuggle up to her for their daily cat naps. Thackery is not sure how he feels about dogs, but would probably do best with a dog that is very calm like him. Thackery will be the perfect best friend for his forever family, and they will never want for someone to cuddle or talk to while he’s around.  Thackery's sisters are Myling and Rhoda.  Meet Thackery at Thrift Hound, 10-5, Mon-Sat (beginning Wed, 11/30).  His sisters will be at PetSmart, Bleachery Blvd, where you can meet them on Saturday, 12-4pm.   Get $50 off the combined adoption fee when adopting a pair of kittens.  All cats and kittens have been spayed/neutered, FELV/FIV tested, microchipped, vaccinated (whatever they can have in the period they are in our care, some will still need additional vaccines after adoption), given dewormer and flea preventative and provided care for any known illnesses during their time with us.    show less

Zoey.  DOB: 5/10/14 8 y.o Female, 68-70lb Spayed Dutch Shepherd Red/Brindle The first picture is recent and the others are a few years old.  We are working on getting more up to date pictures! Zoey is a really wonderful older dog. She is healthy, very loving, well-mannered, house trained, crate trained, and she walks easily with a leash but is not formally leash-trained. She enjoys being with her people and is protective of them and their space. She rides well in the car, and loves to be petted.  She is an indoor dog, and would rather be inside in the A/C than sit on the porch. She will play fetch but usually ends up chewing the ball or frisbee after 2-3 tries. Zoey was trained in a prison training program called the New Leash on Life nearly 3 years ago and was adopted soon after.  Zoey has a nervous (non-aggressive) behavior of clicking her jaw that usually happens when she is anxious or if new people enter her space. She doesn’t like crowds but she responds well to verbal commands and is generally good natured. Zoey has a prey drive with smaller animals, so she can not live with cats or smaller dogs and must be fully managed if around them out in the world.  She spent a few months living in an apartment with a golden retriever without incident. We are careful to keep her on a leash in unfamiliar places. Her anxiety is most noticeable in her persistent demand for attention. Medication may help mellow her out, but has not yet been tried.  Zoey a loving dog and a sweet addition to any family as long as they welcome her being indoors, do not have small children, small dogs or cats, and can provide daily leash-walks and/or a tall fenced area. She currently takes Simparica Trio for fleas ticks and heart worm control. She also takes Dasuquin for joint health.  She eats approximately 1.5 cups of dry food two times a day.  Our family is relocating and we are unable to provide appropriate space and care for Zoey but our hope is to find her a safe and loving home. If you are interested in learning more about Zoey, please email pets@mpravl.org or fill out an adoption application at mpravl.org.  Thank you for checking out Miss Zoey! show less
