Boxer

This handsome guy is King, a boxer/mastiff mix around 2 years old.  He and 7 other dogs (including Precious who is also up for adoption) were confiscated by animal control for cruelty and neglect.  They were all living on short chains with no access to water or shelter and they were only being fed sporadically.  We have "before" pictures of him -he was nothing but skin and bones, filthy dirty and full of hook worms and fleas.  Despite this, his tail never stopped wagging -he seems to be very grateful to have been saved.  After being treated for everything and being fed high quality food multiple times a day, King is now healthy and at a good weight and is down to just one meal a day.  King is really a nice dog but at this time, we are going to recommend he be an only dog.  Because he was bascially starved almost to death, he needs to be fed carefully and should be adopted by someone who can handle a strong dog.  He is very friendly but we do not know how he would react if he felt threatned by another dog, especially if there was food around.  For this reason, we are also not recommending him for a home with small children.  This could easily change over time where he wouldn't feel the need to resource guard but there is also the chance he might always feel the need to do this.  He suffered a trauma and is honesly, lucky to be alive.  We really believe he will thrive in the right home.  He is up to date with shots, neutered, negative for heartworms/on prevention, and crate trainefd.  If you would like to adopt Kind, please submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org Adoption fee is $85 and includes all veterinary care We prescreen all applicants prior to meeting.  To be screened, please submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org We do allow out of state adoptions.  However, we do not ship nor transport sight unseen pets for many reasons.  We require travel in person adoption. show less

Sweet Paige is currently my most independent, non-needy, behaved foster kitten. She is absolutely precious! She doesn’t demand or fight for attention, she just calmly waits until she can ease into place beside me. She will then purr loudly while I pet her, make biscuits, curl up and go to sleep. Paige makes biscuits unlike many other cats - she gets her legs in on the action and almost marches while making hers. It’s a little bit comical but I don’t laugh at her because she’s a quiet girl and more timid than some of her foster siblings. She’s not timid when she plays though - she plays with passion and can tackle her foster brothers like a linebacker.  Paige was found on a tarp at about 4-5 weeks old - the tarp was torn and somehow one of her front legs had gotten caught. Apparently, in her efforts to get free from the tarp, she got it wrapped around her upper leg so tightly that she had a pretty bad open wound and her circulation was compromised. No one is really sure how it happened, we can only make guesses based on her condition when she was brought in to the vets office. The people who brought her in did not want her and thought the vet could just euthanize her to end her suffering. Thankfully, the vet saw some spark in this little girls eyes that said “I’m just getting started in this world and I’m a fighter”. So the vet and staff got to work - they got her free from all the tarp she’d got herself tangled in, got her wound cleaned up and treated, put her on some iv antibiotics and hopes for the best. After she made it through the first 24 hours, they kept the wound clean, kept the antibiotics going, encouraged her to eat and showered her with love. I was able to bring her home to foster a couple of weeks later. She loved the vet that decided to try and save her but she was still timid and cautious of other humans. It took Paige a few weeks before she was comfortable with me and then another couple of weeks to decide that instigating contact brought lots of joy and comfort to her. I am extremely grateful to the awesome vet who decided in a matter of seconds, that that sickly, wounded, mad, tiny ball of fur was worth trying to save. All little Paige needed was a chance!  Paige has never been around children or dogs. She has come so far in her short little journey and I feel like she can adjust to any situation with love and patience. However, I think it would be best for her to be in a quieter, calm environment to begin with. Loud, excited, busy homes are not going to be ideal for Paige. I thinks she could adjust to any dog that is typically laid back and doesn’t bark a lot. The main factor in any new home is always the patience, love and understanding of the human in charge. 😊 You can submit an adoption application for Paige at http://www.myhstc.org/cats. This is Precious - a lab/shepherd blend around 2 years old.  She and 7 other dogs (including King who is also for adoption) were confiscated by animal control for cruelty and neglect.  All 8 dogs were living on chains with no access to water or shelter and were basically fed only sporadically.  We have "before pictures" of her -she was absolutely nothing but skin and bones when she came in -she was also full of worms and fleas.  After being treated for both and being fed multiple times a day a nice steady diet, she is now down to just one meal a day and is healthy and ready to be adopted!  Precious is very sweet -she can be a little timid at first but once she comes out of her shell,, she is very affectionate and gives kisses.  She is good with other dogs but will likely always need to be fed separately from other dogs.  After nearly starving to death, it is understandable that she would resource guard.  We also would not recommend a home with small children -she loves people of all ages however, when it comes to food, she will likely always have to be monitored.  It could be something she gets over in time but we do not know.  What we do know is that she deserves a home that will properly care for her and love her the way she will love you.  She is up to date with shots, spayed, negative for heartworms/on prevention, and crate trained.  If you would like to welcome Precious into your home, please submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org Adoption fee is $85 and includes all veterinary care We prescreen all applicants prior to meeting.  To be screened, please submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org We do allow out of state adoptions.  However, we do not ship nor transport sight unseen pets for many reasons.  We require travel in person adoption. show less

This is Remi, a beagle mix around a year old.  She was dumped at a good samaritan's home that wanted to keep her but they have chain link fence that she was able to scale and they live on a busy street and were concerned she might get out and injure herself so they brought her to us to find a new home.  You will not find a dog more outgoing and affectionate than Remi.  She loves everyone she meets and will give you hugs.  She would do best in active home and would be the perfect jogging partner for someone.  She loves people of all ages and loves kids.  As already noted, she can climb a chain link fence so she will need a privacy fence or be leashed walked.  She is a little particular with other dogs.  She will chase small animals of any kind so no small dogs or cats.  She seems to be OK with larger male dogs as long as they are submissive.  She would be perfectly content being the only dog.  She is such a sweet heart -we know the perfect home is out there for her.  She is spayed, up to date with shots, negative for heartworms/on prevention and crate trained.  For adoption, please visit our website and submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org Adoption fee is $85 and includes all veterinary care We prescreen all interested parties before a face to face meeting.  To be screened, please submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org We do allow out of state adoptions.  However, we do not ship nor transport sight unseen pets for many reasons.  We require travel in person adoption. show less
