Anna is a wonderful dog for the right owner. She is a loyal 4 year old American Bulldog Mix who loves attention. She is affectionate, very social with humans and has done well with her foster parents'  4 year old nephew. Belle Star, a 1 year old, 40 lb., hound mix dog, is as beautiful as her name. PAW volunteers and kennel staff say the following: She is very sweet but very timid. Definitely needs patience and encouragement to build up confidence. Does pretty well on the leash, hates loud noises, hates motorcycles and barking dogs. She seems fine with kids, same level of timid with everyone. She likes to be pet. Mostly took treats on her walk, sometimes didn't take it.  She thrives in her own space and can be destructive if left alone, at least at first. She needs a family that will be patient with her and help her feel comfortable in her new home and establish a space for her to feel safe. Belle Star would do best in a rural or quiet suburban environment in a townhouse or single family home. City life in an apartment is not for her. Benson is a 5 year, 10 lb Yorkshire mix. Benson is a sweet little guy, he is good with other dogs, however we have learned that he gets anxious around a lot of commotion/noise (even from outside), so he would do best in a home without children and not in an apartment.   We also suspect that Benson was the victIm of abuse, so he will need an experience dog owner to help him navigate the beauty and wonders of the life a dog should have.  . Bobby is a handsome all black domestic shorthair male born 8/26/2021. He is a talkative boy who loves people. He loves being petted, picked up, and enjoys being a lap cat! He quickly introduces himself to all persons visiting his foster home. Bobby is also very curious and checks out everything new. Bobby gets along with cats of all ages and we believe he'd get along well with children. Bobby is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and tested negative for FIV/FELV. Boots is a 4 year old, 58 lb American Foxhound mix. that loves to be outside! He has a great nose, and loves to explore by smelling new things in new places. He is house trained and leash trained, and is great with other dogs and children. Boots is still a puppy at heart, and needs lots of play and time running outside. He also loves toys and inside play with his humans, and long naps in his crate (his favorite place). Boots is a great dog and would be a great addition to any family.   show less

My mommy had me with her for over three years, and then one day she handed my leash to a nice lady, and she disappeared. I cried, I waited, I looked around every day, but she was gone. I am so sad that I still cry out loud for her. People always come running and try to make me happy, but they don’t know what could help. Can I tell you? I want someone who treats me just like she did. You know, like a puppy. I want love and cuddles and fun and stuff to do. In the meantime, I get so attached to anyone in my life that I sob if they aren’t around. I’m a mess. If you think you could make me the star of your life, I promise I will be a good boy. Ok, well, I might growl at a dog or two at times (they ALWAYS start it), and sometimes I pretend that I can’t hear you. I would really like a fenced yard if you live in a house. I am ok without a crate now that I’m a big boy (except I’m told I’m a little guy and a “runt” — very confusing!). I don’t care about other dogs and don’t like to share! I just want YOU. Carlos is small, all grey male who was rescued from an outdoor colony nearly a year ago. After being in the shelter for more than 6 months, PAW pulled him and brought him to a foster home where he could decompress and mellow into his true self. We know that Carlos wants attention - when he was in the shelter, he'd meow for someone to come over, but then when they did, he was anxious. He was so anxious that he would scratch himself on his face which left a scar that doesn't seem to want to grow hair back. We know it's from the scratching because he's been thoroughly tested negative for ringworm or other skin aliments and isn't itching anywhere else. He's come out of his shell a bit in the last 6 weeks that he's been in his foster home. He is very food motivated and his foster mom has been using treats to gain his trust. It's important to Carlos' long term happiness that he have a kitty companion or two - he really loves the other animals in the home and their companionship. Carlos uses scratching posts and has had no litterbox issues. He is up to date on his vaccinations, negative for FIV/Felv, and is neutered and microchipped. Cash is a 1 year old Chocolate Lab mix, who weighs about 55 lbs. He is such a sweet dog that loves to give hugs and kisses. Cash's favorite thing to do is cuddle and play fetch, once you start you can’t stop. He is a very active dog that loves the outside. Denver is a 5 year old, 75lb Coonhound mix. He is a very handsome boy and gets lots of compliments when on walks about his look and his behavior on a leash.  He loves walks, hikes and even trail rides on bike with his person (using the gentle leader leash). He loves the sun and would do nothing all day if the sun didn’t move around. He is crate trained and will “go to his room” easily. He is potty trained and will stay in his crate from bedtime until morning!   On walks he will stop to say hi, but would rather keep walking and sniffing. He does fine in a dog park, but mostly stiffs the whole place instead of playing. He is good with older kids, not good with cats and not sure about other animals including a live-in dog. Visiting dogs are fine. Denver knows sit, stay, come, place, bang, roll over, off, walk, car ride, room, leave it is not perfect (but the picture with a poop toy on his head is a good example of him leaving it). It's fun to teach him new tricks and he really enjoys learning. He is not allowed on furniture because he gets very protective of spaces. He is food motivated which helps with training. Denver would love to exerience the best match possible, most likely a home with adults only that are willing to maintain clear boundaries. show less

Geneva is a 5 year old, 65lb treeing walker coonhound.  She has overcome much to get where she is and is ready for a forever home!  She's a cuddle bug who loves to crawl into bed with you and play around with other dogs like she's a puppy.  She does get the zoomies at home but some ball throws or a Himalayan cheese stick and she starts to settle down.  She is good with kids but not with cats as all she wants to do is chase them and play which can be a difficult situation for them.  She does need some work on command training but she is a quick learner!   PAW places animals in the Washington, DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area only. show less

Jerry is a 1.5 year old, 95 lb., Siberian Husky mix.  He is a happy excitable puppy, who loves to give hugs and kisses and play with his toys and his people.  He is food motivated and knows basic commands like sit and stay.   However, he could use some training to help with his leash manners.  Jerry does well on car rides and he enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs.   PAW places animals in the Washington DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area only. show less
