About Woody

Adoption Fee: $375

Woody is a 3 year old Harlequin Great Dane who loves walks through the woods and town, and enjoys chasing the occasional squirrel.  Despite weighing in at 140 lbs, he sees himself as a lap dog never missing an opportunity to climb aboard an empty lap.  Woody prefers the company of female dogs, and should not go to a home with other male dogs.  He does fine with respectful children and after initial gentle sniffing, chose to ignore two loud kitties here at GDU. If you’d like a lovable goofball in your life, Woody’s your guy.

At the time you are seeing this post,Woody is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info.

*/*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/*

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $375.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.

*/*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.

Alice is an approximately 5 y.o. chihuahua/dachshund mix who did a great job raising her pups. Now that they've been adopted, it's her turn to find a home. Alice loves attention and prefers to be in your lap. She is crate trained and does fine overnight and when her foster is away. She will go to the door to go out when she needs to potty and will use a pee pad if she absolutely cannot wait to be let out. She enjoys playing with the small dogs and cats at her foster home. She’s not interested in the larger dogs and barks at them to let them know. She loves toys and loves to play in the yard. We believe Alice will do best in a quieter home without small children, and that has another small dog to play with. Typical of her breeds, she is a barker and can be loud, and initially snippy. She would benefit from an experienced owner, someone that will be firm but loving and someone who is patient and not afraid of her initial snippiness. Once she attaches to her person, she’ll be devoted, like Velcro and follow you everywhere. She has been spayed. At the time you are seeing this post, Alice is still available for adoption. Benny is a mixed breed handsome fella about 4 years old who prefers a quieter home and does best as an only-dog. He prefers to meet new people outside first and then does well with them inside. He is very cuddly to his people and enjoys car rides and adventures. He loves lounging in the sunshine, barking at the deer in the field, and getting the zoomies all around his yard. He's a country boy at heart and would prefer the quieter life in the country. Apartment life and busy city life is not for him.  He should go to a home with older kids and no other dogs. He has been cat-indifferent so far. Benny is available to adopt through Green Dogs Unleashed. At the time you are seeing this post, Benny is still available for adoption. Binx is a young  (approx. 1 yr old) Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler).  Binx is an active boy who loves attention.  He gets along great with the other dogs in the foster home and loves the outdoors.  Throw him a stick or ball and you’ve got a new best friend.  Binx does great in his crate and is doing well with house training.   Binx also knows basic commands and is very food/treat motivated.  An active home with a large yard and another pup would be ideal for Binx. Miss Doughnut came to us from a hoarding situation where she lived in not the greatest of conditions with over 20 other dogs.  She is a terrier mix of some type – our best guess is Yorkie mix - and her age is most likely between 6-8. Her foster says she acts younger than that age range. Despite her rough start, Doughnut is a very loving girl and is always up for fun. She loves people and seeks attention. Doughnut responds well to being with other dogs. She is not overly interested in cats. Doughnut walks nicely on a leash. Doughnut can be noisy if stimulated. She is cuddly and smart. Doughnut is increasing her housebreaking skills. She has not met any children yet but has liked everyone she’s met and we have no reason to think she would not like kids.  We are now accepting applications for Doughnut although she will not be spayed until early December and cannot go home until after that. Gallilee is a sweet, beautiful, blind siamese mix kitten. She likes to cuddle up against your body and have her head and ears scratched, and she rolls over onto her back to have her belly rubbed. She is very affectionate and constantly purrs when her foster mom walks into the room. She likes to play with her toys even though she can’t see them, she rolls over and pounces on them if you put them in front of her. She gets around very well, loves to eat, and uses the litter box regularly with no mishaps. She is very affectionate and loving and has turned into a real lapcat, wanting to be loved and petted all day. She will need a house set up for her safety with stairways and any dangerous areas blocked off as she is completely blind, but she is more than worth the effort! Great Catsby and his siblings are incredibly freindly, outgoing, playful, and loving kittens! They are still quite tiny and are not ready to go home yet, but as soon as they are big enough to be spayed/neutered they will be ready to go to their new homes where they will make their new families incredibly happy! Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. show less

Kinley is a 16ish month old purebred Saint Bernard who lives life to the fullest. This dog friendly giant girl loves to run, romp, wrestle and play. She has no idea of her size, and will need a family accustomed to all things Saint including hair, drool, and the mischievous antics of a teenager. Kinley has some basic manners and walks decently well on a gentle leader but will require continued positive reinforcement training. Kinley is a happy energetic lady, who likes to wrestle and occasionally gets excited and grabs clothing. Because of this we are looking for a home without small children who can easily be knocked over or pulled around. Giant breed experience also required. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. When people first meet Lacey they always comment on what beautiful big eyes she has, and she sure knows how to use them! But she also has such nice long legs for a little dog, making her quite the walking partner. She is a 2 ½ year old beagle who has a hilarious strut and LOVES to go for walkies and "sniffaris."  She enjoys meeting up with neighborhood dogs of all shapes and sizes for her walks, and she gets very excited to see people she has met as well. She is a great yard and garden supervisor, and enjoys her opportunities to sunbathe and do rollies in the grass. She also proudly takes on the role of the nosey neighborhood watch from her foster home's deck. Lacey does seem to enjoy having a doggy companion/sibling in the home, but prefers a housemate that knows to respect her space. She is good about being crated for meal time, bed time, and when the human is away from the home, but she sure does love to do zoomies when that crate door opens! She is not much of a barker in the home or out in the yard, but instead more of a thoughtful observer. Lacey does take medicine for some generalized anxiety, but it is very manageable and the medicine is fairly affordable. She is not a huge fan of car rides, but if you can walk someplace, she will go absolutely anywhere with you! We are looking for a home with no children, a predictable schedule, patience to let her blossom, and a commitment to positive reinforcement training. Her Foster Mom has been sharing her adventures on Instagram at @threehoundnight! At the time you are seeing this post, Lacey is still available for adoption.
