Sept/22 UPDATE: Hello fellow Canadians! I have been living here for a year and a half. My adopter is rehoming me as she wants me to be happy. She sees how wonderfully happy I am when I go to doggy daycare with all my friends and then she also sees how sad I look when I return home. I think I need an adopter with at least one other dog with whom I can play and sniff together. I'm getting excited just thinking about it! My rehoming adopter has no concerns about my behaviours, just my feelings about being the only dog in the household. Hey you other dogs....can you persuade your humans to take in just one more wonderful family member. I promise to reward them with appreciation and smiles! HISTORY: Do you have a quiet home you could share with a timid little dog? A place where I could gain confidence as I get to know what it's like to be loved? My name is Abigail (note: the video's show me as Hanna). I'm a three year old jindo mix of 29lb and 18 inches tall. In March of 2019 I was rescued, along with 64 other dogs, from a dog meat farm in Beolgyo, S.Korea. It was a huge rescue operation conducted by KAWA (Korean Animal Welfare Association), along with 4 other rescue teams. They removed us from cramped wire cages that were open to the wind and rain, where we had been forced to eat food waste and drink putrid water. When I first arrived at the shelter I was very scared and would often spin in circles, a common behaviour seen in animals who have been caged a long time. I still do this, especially when I'm in new situations that make me nervous, but once you start petting me and speak in a gentle voice, I stand still and allow the touching to continue.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw44nJuPhpw&list=PL3UlJJYID8eE0KqgX-spdT4Cb9EAAy0u9&index=1 When I get to know someone and start to feel comfortable, as I do now with my caretaker, my spinning drastically diminishes.  At first it was tricky to even get the leash on me because I was spinning and the leash would get tangled. Now I know her and will stand still while the leash is attached and will walk confidently with my tail held high, as long as we are in familiar places. Once we venture into new territory I still become nervous though. Now, with my caretaker I will sometimes nudge her hand to let her know I'd like to be petted please. Around dogs I am far more confident and will happily approach with my tail wagging in invitation to be friends. I'm one of those dogs who has noticeable dew claws. They will need to be kept short so that they don't get caught in things. My claws have recently been trimmed and my teeth cleaned, so I'm all ready for my new home.  All I need now is to find one.  I am spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee of $650 + tax, includes my airfare to Vancouver or Seattle. If you would like to increase the chance of your dog coming sooner (on average within 4 weeks), then the rescuer may be able to find a flight volunteer to Seattle. This is the application that you should use if you are looking to apply to foster a dog AND ARE NOT planning to adopt.  Foster homes are one of the most important parts of any dog rescue. Without these homes, we wouldn't be able to rescue as many dogs as we do.  Our greatest need is for foster volunteers who have dog experience. We often have foster dogs that require some kind of behavioural training, or have medical needs, so if you have experience in either of these areas please apply now. Fostering is agreeing to take a dog into your home, temporarily, while the rescue is receiving and reviewing applications for adoption.   What does it cost? As a foster home, we can provide you with food, collar, leash. We will also cover any vet bills, but please speak to your foster coordinator before taking the dog to the vet unless its an emergency What if I can only foster a small dog? We will work with the limitations of our foster homes. If you are asked to foster a dog that is too big, please just let us know and we will look for another home. We are always looking for foster homes that can accomodate big dogs. What if I only want to foster a puppy? Puppies are usually very easy to adopt and often don't need fostering. Please consider an older dog that could be even more fun! What if I want to adopt? If your intent is to adopt a dog, you will need to submit an adoption application for review.  I only want to foster a specific dog. If you want a specific dog and only that dog, we recommend that you apply to adopt. International dogs are not normally available for fostering as we try to only bring them here if an approved adopter has been found. We really need more experienced foster homes and appreciate you reading this posting. I hope that you consider opening your heart and your home to help a dog in need. UPDATE:  My name is Akela but my recent adopter has called me Keelan. I am being rehomed because I have a very hard time sharing my human with another dog in the household. I have begun to guard her from the other dog so my human is wanting to rehome me to a new home where I can be the only dog. I also resource guard my food, toys, and bed. When I am not resource guarding, my current foster says that I am energetic, playful, loving, and cuddly. I would love a home with no other pet! PHYSICAL INFO: Whippet/Retriever mix 11 mos old Male Currently 12kg/25lb. May grow to be about 17-20 kg/ 35-40lb when fully grown Highlights: friendly, playful, smart, trainable, no resource guarding issues RESCUE STORY: I was one of two puppies abandoned by my mother. Once we were rescued, we were bottle fed and fostered. Sadly, my sibling didn't make it and I have been left by myself. Despite these hardships, I am a happy puppy. I have a minor skin condition right now which is being treated, but other than that, I'm healthy! My rescuer describes me as friendly and playful, with a lot of puppy energy. I don't have issues with resource guarding and I'm very food motivated which is a great help when it comes to training. Hey, maybe you and I can to go to puppy obedience classes together! I need to be socialized a bit more, as I haven't had many opportunities to interact with other dogs yet. I'm super friendly, but I can get a bit scared of other dogs right now. I am a beautiful and very happy girl, but that hasn't always been true for me. I used to live in the Middle East where at the very tender age of eight months I became pregnant. I was much too young to become a mother and all my puppies died. In addition my rear leg had been badly damaged, probably from being hit by a car. In the country I come from, dogs are considered vermin and people often deliberately hit us with their cars in an attempt to kill us. The wounds became badly infected and I was in terrible pain by the time I was finally rescued. The vet I was taken to wasn't able to save my leg and it had to be amputated. Despite this I am very mobile and can easily climb stairs. I can't go on long hikes but normal length walks are perfect for me.  I am a very loving and affectionate girl who has a real love of life. I enjoy the company of other dogs once I trust them and currently live happily with several dogs of all sizes. However, it takes me a few visits for me to feel safe with other dogs. So it is difficult for a potential adopter to take the time I need to get me familiar with their dog. So a home without another dog is best for me. I am happy being the only dog in the home as my true love is people. I have the cutest habit of splaying my front legs out wide when I want you to play with me. And if you pet me and stop and I want some more, I will wrap my front legs around yours to trap you and keep you with me. Adorable, right?  I am a really easy dog to care for, and to love. I very much enjoy being outside so a fenced yard is important to me. Because of my distrust of dogs I don't know, I am reactive to other dogs when walked on leash, so it would be best if I was walked where I won't run into a lot unfamiliar dogs.  A trainer who has worked with me is confident that the more exposure to unfamiliar dogs I get, the more relaxed I will be with them. Unfortunately my foster mom isn't able to give me that exposure as she lives with several dogs on five fenced acres which is where we do our walking and exploring. The good part is that even though I am reactive on walks towards unfamiliar dogs, I can't pull hard on the leash due to my missing rear leg so I am easy to control.  While I am a joyful soul, I am not at all hyper or high energy. At home, I am very calm and relaxed. My favourite thing to do is lie on my bed, chewing on a marrow bone or a chew stick. There is no way you could be unhappy with me around.  I am spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. UPDATE:  I am a young dog who is so very happy to have now arrived in Canada. I am being rehomed because of other life matters linked with my adopter. I am a romantic who loves to have a cuddly relationship with my humans. In my past, I must have been scared by other dogs so I can be a bit nervous when seeing other dogs on walks but in my new neighborhood with my foster, I am quickly becoming accustomed to feeling more confident around other dogs. I am living with a large 8 year old female shepherd cross and she and I make a marvelous team. It only took me a few hours to see that she respects me and from then on, we became a pack.  I am a bit chatty I'm told but with a bit of help from my new adopter, I'm sure I can learn to be a bit quieter. I hardly make a sound when there's a human at home with me. I love walks in nature and I'm actually incredibly good on a leash. Pleeeease come to meet me! Walks on front legs, joyful I am one hap hap happy girl... all the time. Just being alive is such a joy. My rescuer found me at 3 months old. I had been hit by a car and was left to die on the side of the road. Thankfully My Good Samaritan took me to the vet, however it was too late for saving my back legs.I love other dogs, but not the greatest fan of cats and better not around kids. Best a home free of those for my future. It would be terrific if I could have a little grassy yard to play in. I am capable of walking on my two front legs for many, many miles. I never get tired of roaming around. Hoping you like exploring, because I do.Probably best not to have a home with stairs. A ramp on just a few stairs is probably fine. Not much else is going to slow me down. Energy Level: moderate I get along with: Dogs: yes, Cats: no, Kids: no Fears: unknown/none observed. Please be patient assisting me in my transition. My name is Atish (Lucia) and here is some information about me. Breed: Anatolian Shepherd mix Age: 5 years Gender: Female Weight: 34 kg Height: 65cm Shoulder width: 25cm Please, please consider adopting me, so I can leave the Middle East straight away. I’m a lovely girl, but I’ve had some hard times over the past years. I was probably born on the streets, but nobody really knows. Somehow my hip was fractured when I was one year old, and a kind person took me to the vet for surgery. Afterwards, I was taken to a boarding house for dogs. For a time, I felt safe, but then I was told that I would be spayed and released back onto those scary streets again. Luckily, a LALDR supporter in the Middle East found out about my situation and helped me to stay off the streets.  Unfortunately, I needed more surgery for a bowel torsion where I lost a lot of blood and needed a transfusion. I almost died , but I was not ready to give up. To keep me safe, I was moved between shelters and boarding houses. As my nutrition was not great, I developed anemia for a while. Once I was moved to a better place, and given the right nutrition, I recovered quickly. Now, after all I have been through, I am very healthy and looking for my forever home. My rescuer had to carry me home, because taxis wouldn't take her, because she had a dog. Callous, hunh? I had a checkup with the vet and IV Therapy for few days. This gave me my strength back. I have such a magnetic personality, how can you not be? That magnetic attraction should bring us together as buddies forever. I think I might be some kind of shepherd mix but who knows what my parents got up to…. Not much is known about my history because I was found alone as a stray pup. I had a terrible skin condition, but as you can see from my photos I am healthy now.  I’m a super smart and super high energy guy. I’m here to protect the world from harm. I’m extremely loyal to the people I know but am very weary of strangers. I’m not aggressive, I just bark a lot to tell you I need space.  I find it hard to trust people I don’t know, but once I’ve met you a few times I will learn that you are a friend. I am extremely food motivated so having food will really help me trust you. My rescuer thinks its very cute that I take pride in protecting the puppies that come through the shelter. I just want everyone to be safe.  Here is a story from the lady who rescued me and is taking care of me in the Middle East:  “Once I fell to the floor in the kitchen, Barlowe quickly reached for me and grabbed my clothes to lift me up. When I tried to use his back as a support for walking, he slowly walked over to me and lifted my weight  He endured, he has shown these behaviors many times, if there was a center for training special dogs, I would definitely send him for training, he knows instinctively how to take care, once again I had low blood pressure and was very lethargic. He was constantly licking my hands and constantly holding my hands in his mouth and lifting them.” I like to hang with other dogs, especially puppies - I really love to take care of puppies. Well, I have personality to go with my looks too. Rescued in the Fall of 2022 by a university student in Mexico, I was in bad shape, due to dehydration, malnutrition and flat out exhaustion. I was found on a dangerously busy street, where I had been wandering for days, seemingly lost. But my rescuer readily took care of that by giving me great care. She noticed I seemed familiar with a home environment, so I may have been dumped. A vet visit in November 2022 gave me A1 marks for health. She is unable to continue caring for me though, so wants to find me a great home in Canada. Want a superb dog on leash (easily corrected), you found him. I have a calm indifference to passing by people and other dogs. When there is interaction, it is with a confident and friendly demeanour. I was spending 2 days a week at a local pet daycare and lovingly referred to as “Mr. Popular”, as all the other dogs would gravitate towards me for playtime and affection. Food motivation works well for me too. I'm a fast learner. I really need a solid long daily walk/run/play/fetch session to take the edge off. A couple hours a day works well. Doggie daycare works good too. I'm never rambunctious, just have a solid energy level. Not much of a barker, maybe if there is commotion, I'll let out a bark or two, but I am easily shushed. Being one who enjoys following you around, if you move to another room, I will follow and resettle. I do bond pretty good, so may get a tad anxious if you leave and want to go with you. Training to build up my comfort level on this would help. Likely just learning my new home boundaries and getting into a routine should help relax me fine. I would love most any home... one with an active family, one with other dogs or kids or cats (supervised yet with a bit more training) or all the above. It's all fine with me. Maybe best kids are at least 8-9 years old, as I am not always aware of my size. I hear there are plenty of things for a dog to enjoy in Canada. I certainly enjoy explorong.
