Additional Information: Meet Spencer! Spencer finished top of his class at Fancy Paws charm school and is the most well-behaved handsome gentleman at City Kitties. Spencer will be the first to warmly greet your houseguests, and while he doesn’t shake hands, he would like to be picked up and held to make your acquaintance. At dinner parties, observe his terrific table manners when he cleans all of the canned food bowls, politely waiting until the resident cats are finished before digging in. Spencer is solidly built with a distinguished salt-n-pepper coat and maintains his figure by playing with toy mice, lasers, or other cats. He is totally unbothered by rude noises like the vacuum cleaner. Most importantly, Spencer knows that the most mundane task is made better with a cat. When his foster must sit down to ice their aching knees, Spencer lays on them and purrs—the best treatment available! Spencer is simply a wonderful companion—sweet, calm, and delightful. Apply for Spencer today!

City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model).

Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.
Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV, when age appropriate, but not when born to a negative mother in foster care.

Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs.

Name: Ace Suspected Breed(s): Redtick hound mix Gender: Male Age: 3 yrs old Weight: 58 lbs Personality: Outgoing, goofy/funny, loyal, smart, rambunctious, adventurous, good hiking partner, and mischievous. Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs Observations with Cats: There are two resident cats in Ace's foster home. Ace is making progress with learning not to chase or bark at them. Observations with Kids: Untested House Training Progress: No recent accidents, though Ace does have a tendency to mark when in a new place. Crate Training Progress: Ace quiets down quickly once in the crate. He can get overstimulated in some social situations, and he finds the crate to be a calming place. Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Webster County, WV Additional Information: Ace is an energetic, loving companion. He adores long walks, sniffs, and being outside with his foster human. He is a people "person" and wants to greet everyone he sees. Ace is also a fan of other dogs and is on his best behavior when meeting a new 4-legged friend and gets along great with his much smaller foster pup sibling. He enjoys long walks and runs and would make a fabulous exercise companion: he has incredible stamina! Mealtime puzzles are a source of great fun for Ace! He loves bones and stuffies, especially stuffies he can destroy: none of that tough chewer nonsense for Ace! A social butterfly, he enjoys being with his human while playing in the yard and is also fascinated by all the smells during his walks. Ace knows the words sit, spin, come, and up, and he is still learning more! If you are an active person, Ace may just be the guy for you! Ace's life was saved by the daughters of Barry and Rita, in honor of their 54th wedding anniversary. Congratulations and thank you!  __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Amaya Suspected Breed(s): Cattle dog mix Gender: Female Age: 6 mos old as of 4/1/22 Weight: ~40 lbs Personality: Friendly, playful, easygoing, independent. shy, goofy/funny, good running partner, rambunctious, smart, eager-to please, trustworthy, loyal, energetic, affectionate, gentle, timid/fearful, snuggler, and mischievous. Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Untested House Training Progress: Amaya is still working on house training. Crate Training Progress: Amaya is making good progress on crate training Location: DC area foster. Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: 6-month-old Amaya has the MOST kissable face. This speckled, floppy-eared lady is like the dog version of the energizer bunny; she is fun, excitable, and wants to hang out with you 24/7. Amaya has literally endless love to give, and she will never hesitate to let you know how much she adores you! While she may be shy at first, she is quick to open up and show that she has complete trust in you. This little lady loves to hang out with her humans and is up for anything, whether that be a walk, playtime, or just having a snuggle on the couch. Amaya has a lot of energy, so she is always excited and eager to meet new friends and loves when guests come to visit (the more people the more pets, right?)! This friendly gal's #1 goal is to be your BFF, and she will show it by being your shadow; whatever you're doing, she will happily tag along. Amaya makes every activity into a party, even changing the sheets! She also has endless affection, and when it's bedtime she loves to cuddle in bed with her humans. Amaya enjoys walks but sometimes gets too excited about all the fun sights and smells and has trouble focusing and remembering that walks are also potty breaks. She has endless curiosity, and is interested in anything and everything! This little lady would be best suited for a home that can patiently work on some basic training with her, since she is learning these skills for the first time and needs some gentle direction and practice. However, she has been making progress on her training (she is adapting very well to her crate) and knows "sit." Amaya is clever and resourceful, she just needs some guidance and redirection! Amaya's sweet demeanor and loving personality is quick to steal hearts, and she is looking for a forever home that has lots of love and patience (and she has so much love to give!). Apply today to meet Amaya! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Bailey Suspected Breed(s): Pittie mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year old Weight: 50 lbs Personality: Playful, affectionate, outgoing, rambunctious, smart, and energetic Observations with Dogs: Generally good with other dogs on playdates. Bailey can get overly excited and sometimes plays rough, so any playmates would need to match that style. He is still learning how to contain his emotions when meeting people and dogs on-leash, so he would do best with a fenced yard or in a quieter, less dense part of the city.   Observations with Cats: Bailey would be best in a home without cats. Observations with Kids: Bailey would do best in a home without children. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Bailey does well in the crate. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Are you looking to have a good time? A partner in crime? A snuggle buddy who will be loyal to you furever? Well, luckily for you, adoptable Bailey is looking for that too! This pup is smart, friendly, and energetic. He loves fetch and is an athletic superstar when it comes to catching balls mid-air in the yard. One-on-one playdates with doggie friends who are game for his rough style of play are his favorite. Bailey is also happy to occupy himself with squeaky toys or, when you are willing, a good game of tug. Training time is always a treat for Bailey too! He learns behaviors and new words quickly and is very eager to please his human.  After a full day of fun, snuggle time on the couch is a must for this sweetheart. Companionship is a serious business for Bailey, and he’s definitely up to the task. Bailey is still learning how to greet people and dogs when on walks, so he would do best with a fenced yard or in a quieter, less dense part of the city.   Bailey knows life isn’t always easy. He was found after being hit by a car, and after making a full recovery, he’s excited to make the most of life again. He’d love to enjoy it right next to you, so apply to adopt this sweet man today! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Jack Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Male Age: 2 years Weight: 9 lbs Personality: Snuggler, Shy, Gentle, Friendly, Playful  Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Loves his sister Jill and needs to be adopted with her Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids in his household, but a little skittish around other kids House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Galax, VA Additional Information: Jack is a sweet cat who enjoys watching the outside world and birds from the windows, running up and down the stairs, and especially LOVES belly rubs. Like loves them to the point of sprawling on the floor on his back to make sure you know his belly is, in fact, available and ready for a rub. Jack is shy with strangers but his trusted people are the center of his universe. He'll shower his lucky humans with affection, snuggling on the sofa in the evenings and in bed with the kids during nights, and his favorite spot is on top of a laptop. Yes, while you are working, but it's merely a gentle reminder that hey, you might need a little break. Jack loves to be fed and has a ceremony in helping choose the food and watching as it goes in his bowl.  Jack is very close to his sister Jill. They might have even gone up a hill together that one time. The pair will play, snuggle and do most things together. Are you looking for a pair of sweeties to join your home? Apply today! Jack has had age-appropriate vetting to date, which includes a veterinary exam, deworming, microchip, and the first FVRCP vaccine. An adopter will need to agree to cover costs of spay/neuter when he/she is age-appropriate (usually 16-20 weeks) and will need to continue his/her kitten vaccines (including rabies) as he/she grows older. Kittens under 12 weeks of age must be adopted in pairs or to a home with friendly resident feline. Just sayin'. Beyond her gorgeous looks, she's very independent and adventurous. She can be a little shy when around strangers but quickly comes around. Jill might not be much of a snuggler but she will demand pats and loves to be around while you cook, clean or watch TV. She's not a demanding lap cat, but when you work from home she will be on top of the desk or very close by during her naps. She's not into judging your housekeeping, but Jill likes to have things clean and tidy around her and has her favorite spots around the house, especially her tower. She is a little more courageous than her brother Jack and loves playing with her toys, watching the birds from the window and following flies around the house. During the warmer months she loves hanging out on a patio or balcony, if you happen to have one. Jill is very intelligent and answers to her name. She is very attached to her brother Jack and the pair spends most of their time together.  Are you looking for a pair of sweeties? Apply today to make Jill and Jack part of your family! Apply for a CAT: www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adopt-a-city-kitty.html City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less

Let me introduce you to Bear and Bean—two adorable little kitties! Bear and Bean make quite the high-energy pair. They are smart as cookies, not to mention they have an adventurous nature that could contend with Lewis and Clark. And the extra topping of it all? Bear and Bean look so angelic as they snuggle together for a joint nap. Though don't be fooled, they are also energetic and they both do leaps that would get a standing ovation from any ballet audience around the world. And they train for bouncing off the walls by running on a kitty treadmill (true story!). These two brothers are incredibly affectionate and will stop whatever they’re doing to greet humans who come into the room, often reaching out their arms for a hug. And let's not forget to mention the purrs—beyond darling! These cats are just magnificent and will provide immeasurable amounts of love and entertainment and antics to whoever is lucky enough to adopt them.
