About Jake

Adoption Fee: $375

Jake is a sweet, deaf 9 month old Border Collie who is looking for an active family with another dog and preferably a fenced yard.  He is learning basic obedience with hand signals, is great with dogs and kids, and loves playing with them and with toys.  He is housetrained.  He will be a great addition to an active, loving family committed to continued training and providing the exercise that typical border collies need.

At the time you are seeing this post, Jake is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info.

*/*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/*

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $375.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.

*/*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.

Alice is a chihuahua/dachshund mix who did a great job raising her pups.  Now that they've been adopted, it's her turn.  Alice loves attention and prefers to be in your lap. She is crate trained and is doing very well on housetraining. She enjoys playing with the small dogs and cats at her foster home. She’s not much interested in the larger dogs and barks at them to let them know. We believe Alice will do best in a quieter home without small children.  She has been spayed. At the time you are seeing this post, Alice is still available for adoption. Annie is super laid back and she blossomed pretty quickly 24 hours into her foster home. She loves to cuddle in bed for her foster parents, play with the cats that’ll play back with her, and walks awesome on leash. He likes other dogs and kids and is very playful and curious.  He is getting used to his crate.    Did we mention how cute he is?  We're told he is a Boxer mix and he has the cute short legs that remind us of a Dachshund? or a Bassett?  We can't be sure of his mix, but we do know for sure that he is one of the cutest, sweetest boys around!  Aspen is looking for a home with another dog to play with, a physically fenced yard or the ability to be strictly leash walked.  He will make an awesome addition to a family committed to his continued training.  At the time you are seeing this post, Aspen is still available for adoption. Agustin "Auggie" and Alma are a bonded pair of cockatiels looking for a loving home. They do not do well separated although Auggie does come out of the cage and explores the room and Alma is fine as long as she knows he is close by. Auggie loves a bit too much and has plucked Alma bald. They came from a hoarding situation where they didn't have much enrichment and had stressful conditions. We are hoping with proper enrichment and time out of the cage, Auggie will now find some other ways to entertain himself. Damage to Alma's follicles may be too intense to grow feathers again. Time and the next molt will be telling. Alma has been pretty quiet, but lately has been walking around her cage more and has even decided to come out a few times. She is missing a foot, so requires flat perches and a low long cage  because she falls off her perch often. She can perch on round perches so some natural ones should be provided, but the flat ones are easier for sleeping. Dishes low to the floor are easier for her to eat as bending over and balancing on a perch to get to a dish is difficult. She is fully flighted but is still building up her muscles and lung power from being cage-bound for so long. Neither is hand tamed and are still working on building trust. Auggie likes to whistle and play with toys. He is quite entertaining and will walk over close to a human to whistle and have a "chat" in cockatiel chitter. Auggie will go back into his cage on his own at the end of the day when his favorite seed is put in the cage so that is the only time it is made available. These two need a home with understanding patient humans. Their age is unknown, but they are certain to entertain anyone who adopts them with their unique personalities and antics.  The adoption fee for the pait is $100.00. At the time you are seeing this post, Auggie and Alma are still available for adoption. Benny is a mixed breed handsome fella about 4 years old who prefers a quieter home and does best as an only-dog. He prefers to meet new people outside first and then does well with them inside. He is very cuddly to his people and enjoys car rides and adventures. He loves lounging in the sunshine, barking at the deer in the field, and getting the zoomies all around his yard. He's a country boy at heart and would prefer the quieter life in the country. Apartment life and busy city life is not for him.  He should go to a home with older kids and no other dogs. He has been cat-indifferent so far. Benny is available to adopt through Green Dogs Unleashed. At the time you are seeing this post, Benny is still available for adoption. Meet Bindi Bindi is a 10 week old, Deaf, Toy Australian Shepherd. She is a tiny girl at only 3.5 lbs. Bindi is full of energy and loves to run and play with the other dogs at her foster home. After she has gotten plenty of exercise, she loves to curl up in her foster mom’s lap. She is really good at cuddling. Bindi is doing well with crate training, protesting some when not tired. She is doing well with house training and has begun learning basic commands using hand signals. While Bindi is  small, cute and cuddly, she is still a high energy working breed and will need lots of exercise and a job to do.  She will NEED an active family willing to not only work with her on consistant positive reinforcement training, but finding activities to wear her out: whether that is very active kids, other high energy dogs in the home, or dog sports. Catti B and her siblings are incredibly freindly, outgoing, playful, and loving kittens! They are still quite tiny and are not ready to go home yet, but as soon as they are big enough to be spayed/neutered they will be ready to go to their new homes where they will make their new families incredibly happy! Chandler is approximately 1 year old and makes friends everywhere he goes. And why wouldn’t this handsome beagle boy be the life the party? Chandler is just one of those guys you can’t help but love. His sweet friendly smile, his easy going eyes, this kid melts hearts with his down home charm and smooth southern drawl. We imagine how different his life may have been had he not been born into an absolute hell hole of a breeding facility, but rather than focus on his life prior to the HSUS surrender, Chandler is enjoying the great wide world of Camp Green Dogs, and the glorious adventure he is now experiencing. Chandler is a remarkable and resilient little boy. He has gotten along with every creature he has met, dogs, cats, kids…and is perhaps the most socially appropriate dog we have seen in a long time. He enjoys playing with big dogs, small dogs, young dogs, old dogs, and is incredibly respectful of being told “no” by other dogs, cats, and even kids. Chandler also has a fairly incredible “recall” command now. Very “Un-Beagley” along with a great “Sit” and is working on other manners. He is crate trained and has decent leash manners at this point as well. He is still working on house manners and chewing appropriate things but is well on his way to being an upstanding member of the community. Chandler is also uncharacteristically quiet for a beagle. While he does occasionally sing us the song of his people, we have yet to hear him actually bark (fairly consistent with the others who came from his same situation). Chandler is looking for a home with at least one other socially appropriate dog, and would do well in a multi dog household. We will only consider homes looking for a house pet, as he is not now nor will ever be a dog that hunts. Chandler has been started on disc dog skills and does show promise, fetching and retrieving the disc and giving to hand. This boy is thriving on positive reinforcement and we will require his new family to continue this training method, with a preference for a home willing to continue working with us here, in person or virtually. Our main goal is ensuring the long term success of every adoption which includes setting him up for success with proper training and placement screening. He is current on vaccines, is heartworm negative, and has now been neutered. Chandler is being fostered at GDU HQ in Troy VA. She's energetic and likes to play with dogs and toys. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. show less

Ellie is a 12 week old Border Collie/English Shepherd mix and one of the quieter and more submissive in the group She’s super shy, but also super laid back and has no issues keeping herself occupied by digging in the yard, or finding sticks to chew on. Ellie loves other dogs, but can be very pushy when it comes to greeting them as she gives very little personal space and likes to lick all over their faces. Due to living in a backyard, everything is still new for her. Loud or unusual noises & things tends to make her freeze into place or take off running. But regardless, she has a super loving and people pleasing personality to her. She loves meeting people and will readily run up to their feet and roll over when greeted. She can be a trip hazard as she runs between your feet while walking.  Ellie is dog friendly, quiet in her kennel, & seemingly potty trained. Faux Paw and her siblings are incredibly freindly, outgoing, playful, and loving kittens! They are still quite tiny and are not ready to go home yet, but as soon as they are big enough to be spayed/neutered they will be ready to go to their new homes where they will make their new families incredibly happy! These kittens just love to be held and even chase around their fosters young toddlers (instead of running away like many kittens wisely would!) to get their attention. They are incredibly people-oriented and will make a great addition to any family! At the time you are seeing this post, this cat is still available for adoption. GDU does ask a minimum adoption donation of $120.00 for cats. This is a minimum donation and does not cover all expenses as we are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum donation includes age appropriate vaccines and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. This minimum donation does not even begin to cover the actual expenses each animal has while in rescue, but does go directly towards vet care for our rescue animals. show less

Franklin is all puppy!  His favorite activities are tormenting and eating bugs, playing with and chasing his foster dog sibling throughout the yard, and trying to eat things he’s not supposed to. Regardless of his past with living in a back yard his entire 12 weeks of life, Franklin shows a lot of confidence. He has a super lovable and low-key personality and would make a great addition to any home with a yard to romp and play around in with other doggy friends. Franklin is great with dogs and for the most part, respects their space. He does well in a kennel by himself, and seems potty trained.
