Arlo NEEDS A NEW ENGLAND FOSTER!  He needs a hail mary, before he is returned back to TN. We are a smaller rescue, that is NOT  backed/funded by the governmemt, we are not sponsored by large corporations,l and we have never received a grant. Our rescue runs on small donations from individuals and our adoption donations. We are a foster based rescue, which means we DO NOT have a physical location to house dogs who don't find a foster or adoptive home. If we DO NOT have anyone to take a dog in, we have to send them back to TN.  We are a volunteer run organization, each person in the rescue is a volunteer.   Arlo is a YOUNG dog, at 1 year old. He had a hard life, where he was never loved or cared for. It evident in his behaviors when we got him into rescue that he had no idea how to dog. Arlo had done amazing in the 6 months we have had him in rescue, even with set backs he has shown us time and time again, that he tries his best to learn and understand.  Arlo was with us in TN for 5 weeks before coming to New England, Arlo spent 6 days a week at doggy day care, and did wonderful! With dogs of all ages, sizes, genders and breeds.He was basically an over grown puppy. He was eager to meet all people, with a friendly and excited hop! He worked on his basic commands and learned how to sit, and was housebroken. He made his way to New England and was placed in a foster home with a dog and a cat, and he was doing wonderfully. Until one day he played a little roughly with the cat. The cat WAS NOT HURT. It was him just trying to play, but because he is so much bigger than his feline friends he should go to a home with no cats.  **NOVEMBER 2022** Arlo was adopted into a family. A couple of months later, Arlo began displaying signs of behavioral issues that were unfortunately unable to be worked with. He was taken to training in which the trainer mentioned it would take more time for him. We had taken him back at this time. Arlo was placed in another foster home. We let the foster know hes a rough player, he's young, and he needs some work. He is not good at reading cues from other dogs and is possessive with toys.  He was doing well with his foster brother for the first 2 months he was there. On Saturday, January 14th, Arlo went to a 5 hour adoption event, with a bit of a car ride to and from the event. Events are highly stimulating for a dog - It raises their cortisol levels, and without decompression, that cortisol continues to build and build until a dog will react. Sadly, after the event, he went home, and was given a toy ( as a reward for being a good boy at the event), and his foster brother was also given a toy. With cortisol levels high, stressed from the event, and he can already be a bit toy possesive, (like kids, dogs DO NOT understand that I have a toy, and my friend has a toy, they just want the one the other one has. Arlo went to get the toy, from his foster brother, and Arlo had accidently bit his foster brother trying to get the toy.     We can list Arlo as "Not good with other dogs", but thats is ignoring the root of the problem, and cutting his chances of finding a home in half. He is good with other dogs, great with many, but until he learns how to dog, and how to read cues from the other dog in the home, toys should be given only when separately. Arlo has bounced from house to house to house, never getting the chance to really settle in. He never gets to the part where he feels at home ( both his past adopter and last foster had him under 3 months, 3 months is the time it takes for a dog to feel completely comfortable in their home, and feel at home). With being moved before settling in his leads a dog to never truly feeling comfortable and confident in their home.    What ARLO NEEDS: He needs an experienced dog owner, He needs someone who has some experience with toy possessivness, and/or rescource gaurding, ( Arlo does not gaurd anyone or anything, excpet having an incident over a toy once), a family who will give him TIME, and continue to work with him on his training. No cats, No small pets like rodents, birds, he does have a high prey drive ( he loves to watch birds and squirels from the window) No small children, Arlo loved children but he jumps, and has a lot of energy and can unintententionally knock a small child over).  EITHER NO, other dogs in the home, OR a dog whose energy MATCHES Arlos - ONLY IF THE ADOPTER HAS EXPERIENCE the breed and (TOY POSSESSIVNESS). A fenced in back yard, where he has a place to run around and play safely. Arlo is really a good dog, and very smart, he learns quickly, and he is a true sweet heart of a dog, and in the right home he could be a wonderful dog and make a wonderful companion. He is smart, housebroken, crate trained, sweet, and playful, and wants to do his best. He just needs the right home, and the right guidance to get him there.    Arlos history when we saved him: We saved Arlo from a kill shelter, he was picked up as a stray and brought to Animal Control, he was given 3 days for his current owner to claim him (if he had an owner), or find a new adopter, or be saved by a rescue. Paws Rescue League works hard to save many dogs facing this situtation. Healthy, young good dogs are euthanized for space, as Animal Control needs to respond to calls about strays, so if they are full of dogs that no one claims, or adopts they would be unable to pick up any other dogs. We as well as the local Humane Society, and a few other rescues, work tirelessly to save these innocent dogs lives, who want nothing more than to be loved. Arlo is a bright light of happiness and joy! Even when in the scary shelter where he was unsure where he was or what would happen, he was trusting of everyone, and was as wiggly as a worm, and a huge smile on his face. He was just beaming with positivity. To think this beuatiful light could be extinguished soley because he was taken up a kennel is awful.   Arlo was temperament tested, and taken out of the shelter and placed in a TN foster home, where he got lots of love, and affection, and went to the vet for a physical exam, and HWT, neutered and vaccinated. Arlo is currently in his CT foster home, and he is very much a Husky Shepard mix! You have never met a sweeter, more loving and happy dog. Arlo is truly a wiggle butt! He wags his tail with such happiness his whole body wags, it is the cutest thing, then add his huge happy smile! He is truly a great dog, who loves everyone and has never met a stranger ( everyone is a friend).    Arlo is a male,  White swiss shepard/husky mix, who weighs about 38lbs. When he was picked up by Animal Control is was very clear he was very under weight and malnourished. His ideal weight should be about 50-55lbs. He is not a fan of the crate, after his adoption and return, he has picken up on house breaking amazingly well, our guess is he spent much of his short life on his own, outside, and eager to meet and interact with people. Arlo is good with other dogs, he is too rough and too much for cats, he is good with children, we suggest older children as he is still learning all "indoor manners", and how to be the best FURbaby! Arlo is still working on his training to be a dog, and learn how to communicate with other dogs. Arlo does have at times have a  hard time sharing toys, or understanding that he cant have a toy, and needs someone who can help him work on that, or keep toys up and away when other dogs are around.  Alro just needs someone willing to give him time and understanding. show less

Baron is about a two-year old male Treeing Walker Coonhound mix. He is a very sweet boy, with a great temperament. He is great with kids, dogs of all sizes, and even cats! (He was tested with cats, and he didn't pay much attention to them). He is playful, smart and silly. He has come a long way from being a dog that no one cared about, or put any time into. Now he is a happy go lucky, dog, who has learned a great deal while in his foster's home. Baron is dog door trained, and crate trained, and leash trained. Baron would do best with a family who can continue helping him be the best dog he can be! He would love a doggo sibling, and maybe human siblings. He would also love a back yard to run around and play in! Breed experience is a plus!    Barons Story: Baron was found as a stray, picked up by Animal Control where he was given three days for an owner to claim him, or a new adopter, or a rescue to save him, before being euthanized (put to sleep),for space. His owners were located and they had let him "loose" because they no longer wanted him, because he wasn't a hunting dog and that was his purpose when they got him. The family felt it was ok to just let the dog go, and not care about the his safety. Once it was discovered that a family wasn't coming for Baron, his only hope was an adopter or a rescue. On the last day of his stray hold, we picked him up before he was to be euthanized. Once in rescue , we got Baron fully vetted, and we learned he was Heartworm positive. We began treatment, and he has now been in his TN foster home for the last six months while he got healthy and kicked heartworms butt!   Now Baron is in New England and is very excited to find and meet his FURever family! **Pupdate** Baron found a family in New England, but unfortunately it was not a good fit. Baron needs a home with structure and an experienced owner. Baron needs an active family. He has also been expressing some food posessiveness. We prefer an adopter who is willing to help him overcome this and provide him the training he needs. show less

Buddy is a 2 year old neutered male Golden Retriever mix, who weighs about 50lbs. He is full grown and will not get any larger. Buddy got his freedom ride out of the shelter a ccuple of weelks ago, and has been in a loving TN foster home while he awaits his Freedom ride up North! Buddy arrives in New England on 03/18/2023!  Buddy is a sweet boy who wound up at Animal Control when his owners decided that he just took up too much of their time, and they no longer had the time for him. When he was dumped at the shelter his owners reason was" Not enough time for him, and he has too much energy." ...... He is a Retriever mix. They are playful dogs, who enjoy some activity. His prior family got him as a puppy, and had him for one year and 7 months before they gave up on him. Buddy has sat in the shelter confused to what he did wrong, why his family left him there. We got this sweet boy out of the shelter and into a loving foster home, where he was showered with love and affection.  Buddy is dog friendly, and super friendly to people, he is good with kids (we suggest 8 years and up, due to size) Buddy has not been cat tested, so we are unsure how he would with cats.  He is a sweet boy who just wants to be loved and find a new family who will not give him up, for being a happy playful boy.  Buddy is good on leash, ok in the car, he is housebroken and crate trained, medically UTD, including negative 4DX testing.  show less

Chandler is in CT and is ready for his furever home! He is a 6 month redtick hound mix weighign about 30lbs. He is housebroken and crate trained. He loves his foster siblings! He is good with other dogs and kids. In TN he attended day care and did great! Chandler is a well-behaved loving little guy. He has moderate energy. He loves to snuggle, lound around and relax during the day. He enjoys walks and social time with other dogs as well! Despite his hound background, he is not a barker and doesn't run away. He is a perfect companian and loves everyone he meets! show less

Comet came to Paws Rescue League Inc, when he was saved from the local kill shelter. His previous owners dumped him right before the Christmas holidays ( probably to make room for a puppy).     Comet is a 4-6 year old male cocker spaniel mix, he has spent his whole life with his previous owners. His whole life was flipped upside down as he sat at a cold, loud and scary animal control building, unsure what it was that he did wrong. Sad, confused, and defeated he looked at everyone with the saddest eyes. Although we had closed our intake due to the overwhelming amount of dogs we have saved, and very little volunteer help, no foster home openings, and  declined adoption rates, we could not turn our backs on this little fella.   Comet is a sweet little guy, about 25lbs, who just wants to be near you. Since he was abandoned, he has been nervous that his new people will abandon him too. Heartbreaking. Comet is good with other dogs, good with kids, we do suggest children 12 years and older who understand how to give a dog space.  We are unsure how he would do with cats,as his foster did not have a cat. He is crate and fully potty trained. He may have an accident while he adjusts to his new routine in his furever home. One look in to this boys eyes, and you have to ask, how could anyone toss him away like trash, and replace him with a puppy? Comet was adopted on December 4th 2022, and was returned on March 1st 2023. He had just got to the 3 month mark to where he finally felt like he was home. He then was retuned back to PRL. The previous adopter and Comet were not a compatible match, there were many kids in the home, and Comet prefers a quiet life. Comet needs a home where its just him and his person, (or people who have experience with a timid, scared dog) and maybe another dog to help with his confidence. Comet was thrown out like trash by his original owner, and now returned by his 2nd owner.  It takes Comet a little time to to get comfortable in his new environments, but he warms up to his new person IMMEDIATELY. He can be protective of his people, (who can blame him, when hes lost his family at least twice now).  He does communicate when he is uncomfortable, or scared. He will bear his teeth if he is feeling threatened or nervous. He has nipped before toward small children, so NO SMALL KIDS. An owner with experience with nervous, timid and scared dogs, and experienced with dogs who have been abused before is preferred. He needs an owner who will walks him on a real leash, retractable leashes are not safe for dogs, especially dogs who are timid, and nervous. He needs a family who will continue with his crate training, which implements boundaries.  Comet would like a lap to lay on, get belly rubs, and some yummy snacks, in a quiet, slow paced home with a person who loves him.    A quiet home with a fenced in yard is recommended, and a home with no small children is a must. Comet has very low energy, he is a couch potato who wants to be close to his person at all times. He is a very sweet loving, affectionate guy, but just needs the right home for him. show less

Ellen Degeneruff is an 8 month old female lab/cur mix. She weighs about 45lbs and is a medium size dog. Ellen is a spunky girl who loves everyone. She aims to please! She is very playful and energetic. Ellen is a sweet dog. She is good with other dogs and children. She would do well in a home that can provide her enough exercise! She loves the dog park and enjoys playing with other dogs. She attends daycare and the trainer at daycare described Ellen to have an excellent temperament! When she is not playing she will sit quietly in her crate and enjoy a chew toy or bone. She is very smart and is learned quickly to go potty outside. She is so good with kids. She has spent hours outside playing with her human foster siblings. Gideon, Freeway, and Thimble came from a breeding mill. They are Toy Australian Shepards, (about the size of a pomeranian).  They were covered in feces and urine, their skin fur was stained from being locked in pens, and having to stand and live in their own waste. We were asked to help and take them in to our foster based rescue so they could be cared for, vetted and learn to live in a home, and not just be a tool to breed Toy Australian Shepards.   Gideon is a 3-4 year old male, who weighs about 10lbs, with a beautiful black and white fluffy coat of fur! They are NOT hypoallergenic dogs.  Gideon is timid and shy, but warms up to his new people quickly. His foster mom says he loves belly rubs.  Gideon and Thimble are very close to one another, and Thimble cries if she isn't able to see Gideon. We have been working on that with Thimble.   Gideon is full grown, he will not get any larger, he is practicing what its like to be a dog, and live in a home instead of a cage. He is practicing leash walking, house breaking, positive crate association (becasue they were locked in crates, we are teaching them crates are ok).  Due to thier past, and Gideons age we suggest children 10 years and up. Gideon is good with other dogs, and warms up to people after a few days. He is NOT cat tested so we are unsure how he would do with cats.  Gideon arrives in New England on 03/18/2023 and is in NEED of a FURever home or a foster home asap! show less

 Janice, Monica, Emma, Emily, and Rachel were being given away by their owner "free to homes", the owner stated they were going to put them in a box and drop the box off at Walmart. We had one of our volunteers go see the puppies and ask about the mom, so we could ask to spay her to prevent future unwanted puppies. We were told mom wasn't available for us to fix. We asked to take in the remaining 5 puppies (originally there were 8), the boys were already given away. We took the 5 females who were left. All the puppies looked heatlhy aside from wormy bellies and not eating nutritious food. Except for Janice, we noticed her face was swollen, and we took the family of 5 puppy sisters and got them to the vet right away.  Janice we noticed right away she had some swelling to her face, within a day she had started loosing hair on her face and around her mouth, she went to the vet for tests, to test for mange, infection and allergies, she was cleared for everything but her face continued to get worse, until it was raw, scabby and painful. Janice has been treated, and is recovering amazingly well! This girl would have died in a box behind Walmart had we not took her in. Every person would of turned her down based on the swelling in her face. This sweet loving pup was rescued, and her life saved. Now to complete her rescue journey she needs to find a family to love her, and care for her. With her illness behind her, she only has lots of love to give. Janice is hoping she has a family waiting for her when she arrives to New England on 02/18/2023!  She is mostly black, and will grow to be a medium sized dog, Janice is happy go lucky, and gets along great with kids, cats, and dogs, as well as all people! Joey is a 6 month old redtick hound mix! She is good with other dogs and kids! In TN, she attended day care daily and did fantastic. She is EXCELLENT at walking on the leash! She is also housebroken. At her current foster home, she will walk out when the foster opens the door if she needs to potty. She is in the crate and will sleep all night. Sweet Lore has been with us since the beginning of OCTOBER! She has been to 3 adoption events already and is still looking for her forever home. Lore is a one year old female lab mix who loves to play. She LOVES water! She is a fun loving, happy go lucky girl who found herself in a shelter hoping she would be saved. She was saved from Sullivan County in TN and then placed in a foster home while she awaited her vetting/spay surgery.   Lore is good with other dogs but would recommend a home with no other dogs or younger kids. Luigi is Mario's son! He is an 8-10 month old male brindle dachshund. He is sweet and shy at first. He adores other dogs and loves his people quickly. He loves cuddling with you at all times! He will give you kisses and always look for you. He is housebroken. At night he can be afraid of the noises so it might take him a littlebit. He is great on the leash and will walk right next to you! Once he is comfortable, he loves to play fetch! He prefers his NylaBones and his tennis ball rope. He knows basic commands but might not if he is feeling nervous. He loves to sleep and would love to spend the day on someone's lap. He loves to bring you treasures from around the house as well!  He is good with other dogs and cats. Mazzy was found as a stray and picked up by animal control, where strays are given 3 days to find an owner, new adopter or a rescue. After 3 days by TN state law the dog can be euthanized. Paws Rescue League Inc. works tirelessly along side the local Humane Societies, and volunteers to save these dogs. Mazzy was in awful condition, it was evident from her urine/feces soaked and stained paws, that she was caged in a small area and left there to defecate, and live in her own filth. Aside from the stains on her paws, and coat, she was skin and bones, weighing about 13lbs. Every bone in her body visible. Her ears and body covered in fly bites. She did NOT have a good start at life, she has been terribly neglected. She was found on somones property along with another dog, its believed the owner of the 2 dogs ( Mazzy and the other dog), had dumped them in a community in the middle of the night. Mazzy found a home with a porch and hunkered down, and waited for people to arrive, so she could get help. The owner of the home fed her and called Animal control so she could hopefully find a loving home. Since we got Mazzy in to rescue, she has been living in a loving foster home, who is giving her ALL the love she didnt recieve in her past. She has seen the vet, and is now medically up to date, spayed and HW negative. She has been putting on much needed weight, she gained 5lbs in 11 days! She has recieved many baths to help remove the urine stains on her paws and fur.  Her foster mom raves about how sweet she is, and how great of a dog she is. She is shy at first, and doesnt understand how to dog. She doesnt play with toys yet but we beleive that will change once she has spent more time in a loving home. She is about 20lbs now, and is crate trained, but prefers to be with her people/person. She is good with dogs, she is in a foster home with many other dogs. She will let other dogs know if she is uncomforable and needs space, but comes around quickly, and then pays the dogs no mind. She is good on leash, and just really wants to be with her people. She loves to give your hand and face kisses to show her gratitude for saving her.   We feel young kids would be too much for her, a home with kids 12 years and up, or no children. A home with dogs, or another dog could help her build her confidence and teach her to be a dog. A loving owner, or owners who are willing to give Mazzy the time she needs to adjust from a life of neglect to a life of love. She has no been cat tested so we are unsure how she would be with cats.  show less
