Say hello to Rocky, our splendid treeing walker coonhound! This 70-pound beauty loves showing off his advanced training. He enjoys walking on a long leash, turning his soulful brown eyes to you, and then running to you with excitement, happy with an encouraging word or treat as a reward! He’s an affectionate companion who loves exploring the outdoors, walking on trails, going for car rides, practicing all commands, and being around other dog friends—especially other hounds! He's been housetrained for years.  Rocky's rough start in life makes him even more lovable to all who know him. We think he didn't like being a hunting dog; he has no interest in chasing animals and doesn't like loud noises. He's emerged from his recent training as a resilient, happy, well-adjusted guy who likes the company of other dogs and loves to show you what he can do.  He has derived so much happiness from the consistency of his recent training, we’d like for his new adoptive family to work with him during free sessions with Rocky's trainer. This will streamline the adoption process for Rocky and his new family. The sessions may be in-person and/or online, whichever works better for Rocky and his new family.  Rocky will thrive with stability, consistency, and lots of affection. Rocky’s ideal forever home is likely in a quieter area (suburb/rural setting), in a calm dog-experienced household. He will reward his family with years of outdoor adventures, companionship, devotion, and love!  PAW usually places animals in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, but we are willing to place Rocky farther away to find the right home for him!  show less

Salvador is a beautiful snowshoe male with luminous light blue eyes. We don't know much about where Sal came from - he was found as a stray already neutered, so we assume he was someone's pet at one point. He enjoys petting sessions, lap naps, and meows for his foster mom's attention when he sees her for in the morning or when she comes home from work. He plays by batting toys around the floor and especially loves a catnip toy like the catnip filled banana. Sal also likes to be with his humans, preferring to be in the same room with them whenever possible and sleeps at the foot of his foster mom's bed. When Sal arrived at PAW, it was clear that he had a few medical issues. We discovered that his teeth and gums were in bad shape and likely causing him a lot of pain, and as a result, he required a number of extractions. Don't worry, not only is his mouth no longer hurting him, he's still eating his preferred food - dry kibble - without any issues.  We also realized that he has diminished eyesight in one or both eyes. It's clear that he can see well enough to get around fine, but he's not going to make the incredible leaps onto high surfaces, and he sometimes has a hard time seeing that a surface is unstable. That said, his foster mom always leaves the light on for him at night so that he doesn't have any trouble finding the litterbox. Sal was originally very anxious when he arrived at his foster mom's house, but after a few months, has settled right in. He is a good traveler, going to the weekend house with his foster mom nearly every week without fuss or anxiety, and does well in the new environment when he arrives. Sal does sometimes get annoyed and will let you know he's had enough by swatting with his paws or growling. For this reason, we recommend Sal be in a home without small children. Sal is getting along with the other cats and dog in the home, but he would probably prefer to be an only cat. Salvador is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and is microchipped. His has tested positive for FIV, but is negative for FElv. FIV+ status does not mean that Sal will not live a normal lifespan. Good resources for learning about FIV in cats can be found here: https://vbspca.com/what-you-should-know-when-adopting-an-fiv-positive-cat/  If you would like to meet Salvador via a Facetime or Zoom video call and learn more about him, please complete the application here: www.paw-rescue.org/adopt and we will be in touch. If you have any other questions, please contact Heather at cat-coordinator@paw-rescue.org Due to the COVID pandemic, we are doing meet and greets with our foster cats via Zoom, Facetime or other video conferencing platforms. Since the adopter won't be able to meet them in person, PAW is honoring a 2 week trial adoption to ensure it's a good fit. show less

Sunny is a 2 year old male buff tabby.  His foster family will often refer to him as FOMO because this kitty doesn’t want to be left out!  Sunny is a born follower and trails his foster families’ 4-year-old cat around the house to make sure he doesn’t miss out on anything.  Sunny has a calm energy and is best described as a gentle and sensitive soul. He loves a good wrestle with his foster brother but will also play independently.  He is a true lap cat and is happiest when there is a lap to snuggle into.   Sunny’s warm and loving disposition is remarkable.  He was rescued from a hoarding situation in the spring of 2021 where he was one of two hundred plus cats.  When PAW took over his care, he had multiple infections and still takes some medications for a chronic stuffy nose. His meds are inexpensive and this guy is a champ at taking those pills!  Sunny is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and tested negative for FIV/FELV. If you would like to meet Sunny via a Facetime or Zoom video call, as well as ask questions about him, please complete the application here: www.paw-rescue.org/adopt and we will be in touch.
