About Raptor T.

Adoption Fee: $no adoption fee

Raptor T. is a gorgeous 8-year-old male German Shepherd Dog who came to Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue from a local shelter.  We don’t know very much about Raptor’s past.   He was found stray with another GSD and is very people oriented, loves attention and eagerly follows people to be petted.    He has good house manners – if we excuse some counter surfing.  Raptor is house trained and treat motivated.  He enjoys the company of other dogs and is interested in spending time with them.  Raptor demonstrates a high level of focus when playing. He absolutely loves having a job and will fetch his beloved soccer ball for as long as you feel like throwing it. He is a great fit for an active family and can easily walk two miles.  He would likely enjoy agility or nose work.  Raptor is a strong GSD but easy to handle when on heel.  We have a lot more to learn about Raptor but it is already clear that he will make a wonderful addition to an active family seeking an active companion dog.

Raptor T. Summary:
- Raptor is a male, 8 yrs old, weighs 73lbs, current on shots
- Good with Adults, dogs, middle school aged children, and travel in the car
- Young Children & Cats TBD

Raptor passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into the TSGSR.  The tests are not intended to assess how smart the dog is but are important for TSGSR to determine if the dog is expected to be safe in a family home.   The tested behaviors check to see if the dog will guard or protect food or toys from people, will tolerate handling all over its body (including ears, nose, lips to check teeth, lifting paws, belly, back, and gently pulling the tail) and the ability to get along with other well behaved dogs.  He remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.

Please join us in welcoming Raptor to TSGSR!   Check back often.  We will be updating his bio as we learn more about him!

What's Next for Raptor T:
Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that Raptor  is well cared for and receives all medical care needed for his well being while in our care.  In addition, TSGSR is beginning a search for an adoptive home that will care for him for the rest of his life.  He will come to his new home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys. There is no adoption fee.

Because Raptor is on the younger side, he has limited medical coverage – see a TSGSR volunteer for more information.

If you want to learn more about Raptor, or are interested in possibly providing an adoptive or foster home, please send us a message by clicking on the "Ask About Me" button.  We will often get feedback or "updates" from a dog's foster home and as any updates become available they will be included here.

Buddy T. is a 10-year-old male German Shepherd Dog who was found stray in Southern California.  He was covered in dirt, starving and had open sores on his ears.  Shelter staff found him to be a social boy who was very eager for human attention.  Buddy walked past the many stressed and barking dogs in the shelter, remaining focused on the people around him.  Buddy had an accident at some point, resulting in a shortened tail that he was wagging in circles to show how appreciative he was of receiving love and medical treatment.  TSGSR staff visited Buddy and found a gentle giant with a big personality.  Buddy is now being cared for by TSGSR volunteers at Thulani Central.  He rides well in the car, gets along with other dogs and is good with middle school aged children as well as adults.  He has leash manners and obeys basic commands. Thulani volunteers all love to walk and brush Buddy!  He has a personality that pulls people in and makes them smile. He will make a wonderful addition to a family with love to share. Buddy T. Daniel T. is a distinguished 14-year-old male German Shepherd Dog (GSD) that was owner surrendered to the shelter.   The shelter volunteers advised that even at 14 years old he still knows how to have fun.   He tries to enjoy each day as much as possible which could involve an activity as simple as enjoying a wonderful sunbathing session.  He was affectionately referred to as their cute grandpa dog by one shelter volunteer.   He is not the dog you would go running with or take on extended walks but he would enjoy short meanders in the neighborhood and he definitely will fill your home with his abundant affection.     Daniel T. Summary: - Daniel is a Male, 14 yrs old, weighs 105lbs, current on shots, house-trained - Good with Adults, some other dogs, and travel in the car As you can likely see from looking at his included video Daniel is very friendly with the other dogs in his shelter playgroup and he does limp a bit on his right rear leg,  The shelter vets did take a set of XRAYs of Daniels hindquarters and did confirm that his limp was related to arthritis in his spine, hip and stifle (equivalent to the human knee).    This condition is not uncommon in older GSDs and at the age of 14 Daniel seems to be doing quite well... especially without having the benefit of medications for this condition.    Fortunately for Daniel, the shelter vet immediately addressed his condition and got him started on a canine NSAID that should ease the pain and inflammation of his arthritis.   Undoubtedly, this will have a positive quality of life improvement for Daniel so that his sunbathing sessions will be even more sweeeeet!    Medications like Meloxicam or similar NSAIDs are also quite inexpensive (~ 10 to 25 cents per day) although Daniel's adopter will not need to account for this cost.   Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will cover Daniel's related medical costs for the rest of his life. Even though Daniel is a mellow dog and would clearly pass the Thulani behavior tests he was evaluated to assure that he could be expected to be safe and do well in a family home.  The behavior tests include a check to see if he will guard or protect food from people and a check to see if he will tolerate a full-body feel test that ends up touching most areas of his body (ears, snout, check of his teeth, lifting paws, gently pulling his tail, and much more...).  Lastly, we always check to see if a dog can get along with other well-behaved dogs.    Daniel did indeed pass these tests without any incidents and as you can see in his included video he does get along nicely with other well behaved dogs. Daniel was rescued from a S. Cal Shelter and was transported to Thulani Central in N. Cal (headquarters for TSGSR) where he is setting in.   Daniel was calm and quiet for the 6+ hour ride to Thulani Central.    The trip was broken up with frequent rest stops along the way not only helping Daniel to take care of nature's call but also helping our volunteer transport drivers get a break.    At 105 lbs Daniel did need the help of a folding ramp to get into one of our taller transport vehicles but seemed to do fine with our assistance showing him the way. Please join us in welcoming Daniel T. to Thulani Central.   We are still getting to know Daniel so we will be continuing to update his bio. What's Next for Daniel T.: Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that Daniel is well cared for and receives all medical care needed for his well being while in our care.  In addition, TSGSR is beginning a search for an adoptive home that will care for him for the rest of his life.  Daniel will come to his new home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys.  Daniel’s medical expenses will be covered for the rest of his life by Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR)! Harvey T. is a handsome, “younger senior” German Shepherd Dog who was found stray and taken to a shelter in northern California.  Harvey was stressed in the shelter but very sweet with the people who cared for him.  He was very snuggly with the staff but would bark often trying to get attention.  Harvey is now adjusting to his interim home at a Thulani Central. Volunteers noticed that he is motivated by treats but is a bit assertive when taking treats from the hand.  Harvey will benefit from a strong leader and could also benefit from a refresher on basic obedience training as is common for many rescue dogs. Harvey takes direction well and has a friendly disposition towards humans, which bodes well for his making minor corrections to his behavior such as pulling on the leash while walking and barking when seeking attention. Thulani volunteers are working with him and he responds well to corrections. Despite his tendency to pull on the leash, he walked calmly past all of the barking dogs on his way out of the shelter.  He is not expected to do well with cats, but he gets along well with other dogs.  He likes to chase a ball and is very interested in his surroundings but does not want to be left behind or ignored.  Harvey will likely establish a strong bond over time with a confident leader. COMING SOON! Say hello to Jefferson T, the gorgeous new kid on the Thulani block.  He was brought to the shelter as a stray, where the staff found him to be a friendly, playful, toy-loving dog who was always eager to play a rousing game of fetch. Our volunteers noticed right away that Jefferson is a very happy dog.  He likes pretty much everyone he meets.  Jefferson lights up when people come to say hello and pet him.  He is very attuned to physical affection and allows full body handling.  He is sure to charm you by nuzzling up against you or rolling over to get belly rubs. Jefferson is very strong, and does great on walks of a couple of miles.  He has a solid personality that is overprinted with a desire to do everything at '100 miles/hour’.  Ball focused, he loves, loves, loves fetching for as long as you want to play.  A quick learner who listens to human commands, he has already shown improvement in his manners when taking treats and walking on a leash. Jefferson is appropriately polite and does well when meeting dogs.  He wants to interact and connect with pups of all sizes!  He would thrive in a multi-dog household with other active dogs like himself; but he would also be fine without other dogs. Having a lot of mental stimulation, in addition to physical exercise and ball playing, would make Jefferson even happier.  Hiking, camping, running and beach days are activities we think he might enjoy doing.  Overall, Jefferson is a smart, high energy, trainable dog that will make a great active companion! Jefferson T Summary: - Jefferson is a neutered male, about 10 yrs old, weighs 57 lbs, current on shots - Good with adults, dogs - Currently located in Northern California What's Next for Jefferson T: Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that he is well cared for.  He is thin and somewhat stiff in his hind end.  We plan to have him checked out by our vet prior to making him available for adoption.  He will come to your home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys and of course, a BALL! Margo T. is an athletic 9-year-old female German Shepherd Dog who was found stray and brought to a shelter in Southern California.  When she was found, she was emaciated and had a football sized mass in her abdomen.  Her outlook was poor unless the shelter staff found a rescue organization that was able to help.  Thulani volunteers came to the shelter to see Margo.  She was friendly and she knew basic commands like “sit” and “come”.  She was a great candidate for adoption.  The mass (6 lbs) been removed and the surgery was deemed curative by the pathologist.  She is quickly regaining stamina and weight.  She has a very smooth stride, can easily walk a mile already and volunteers expect her to be a great walking companion.  Margo is very affectionate and she loves to cuddle.  She is not interested in sharing “her people” with other dogs but she is fine with meeting other dogs face to face on walks.  We recommend that she be an only dog in the home.  She is a very loving dog and has bonded very quickly to her caretakers. Shasta T. is a gentle male German Shepherd Dog who came to Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue from a local shelter.  Shasta was found stray.  He was alone, hungry and suffering from a severe skin condition.  His skin condition appears to have come from a chemical or burn accident.  While his skin is improving, he will need ongoing medication.  The best way to describe Shasta is a gentle giant. He loves to be petted and doted on.  Shasta can be pushy around food, but he takes treats gently and is overall very good with other dogs.  Shasta is great with children as well.  Shasta is house trained and crate trained.  Although noisy in the car at first, he has improved his car manners during his time in foster care and now settles down after a few minutes. Shasta T. Summary: - Shasta is a male, 10 yrs old, weighs 130 lbs, current on shots - Good with Adults, dogs, children, and travel in the car - No Cats Shasta passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into the TSGSR. Please join us in welcoming Shasta to TSGSR!   Check back often.  We will be updating his bio as we learn more about him! What's Next for Shasta T: Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) will continue to see that Shasta  is well cared for and receives all medical care needed for his well being while in our care.  In addition, TSGSR is beginning a search for an adoptive home for Shasta.  He will come to his new home with a supply of food, a cushy pad if wanted, and other goodies such as toys. There is no adoption fee.   His medical care is covered for the rest of his life. If you want to learn more about Shasta, or are interested in possibly providing an adoptive or foster home, please send us a message by clicking on the "Ask About Me" button.  We will often get feedback or "updates" from a dog's foster home and as any updates become available they will be included here. Starlight is a sweet 12 year old AKC female GSD that was an owner surrender.  4 years ago her owner could no longer care for her so a friend took her in as a temporary situation. Now, 4 years later, the current owner works out of state for business and is not able to provide Starlight the life she deserves and felt it was in Starlight's best interest to have a rescue group find her forever home. When we met Starlight, she showed signs of being neglected and was struggling with a dry coat, bad teeth, skin infection and ear strikes.  Starlight is a sweet girl looking for affection and attention. She lived mainly outdoors and will need someone who can take things slow with her and win her trust. She immediately took to the preteen daughter of the Thulani rescuer and also did well when introduced to another Volunteer's dog, even after a hyper dog at a dog park ran into her. The former owner reported that Starlight never chased or barked at a neighborhood cat that often walked by her pen. Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue has taken over care for Starlight.  She is a beautiful girl who will now receive the medical care she needs.  She is quite mobile and loves human interaction.  TSGSR will look for a new family with time to love to this wonderful dog.  Starlight T. Summary: - Female, 12 yrs old, weighs 71 lbs. - Good with Adults, some dogs, possibly cats - Good with children - Allergy to chicken, low iron Starlight passed a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into the TSGSR. Starlight remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies.   As a result, she was accepted into the TSGSR program.    Please join us in welcoming Starlight to TSGSR!   Check back often.  We will be updating her bio as we learn more about her!
