About Hank

Adoption Fee: $575

Hank has officially joined us in the Northeast. This gentle Beagle is very relaxed and loving. He likes to play with other dogs, but also happily self-entertains. His foster said that he has been fine around the cats as well... he and the cat have been nose to nose, and he is not aggressive, and he doesn't seem to mind the cat. He's pretty social; loves to be around his foster family and gets FOMO if he isn't in the same room. He's very loving and gives so many kisses!

The fact that he's just over one year old is a little shocking because he can be a total grandpa. Hank came to us very very young after being dumped at the bottom of a loading dock, and we lost his brother within hours due to a genetic defect. We soon found that Hank had a liver shunt, which the vet ensured us he could be operated on once he was a year old. After his follow-up at a year old, the University of TN informed us that he has as much flow to his liver as he possibly could, and there was no guarantee it would be any more successful than keeping him on a special diet for the rest of his life. We weighed the options of the invasive surgery and recovery with the vet, and the fact that Hank has not a clue he is sick, and decided it would be best for his quality of life to not undergo it. The vet said he could live 6 months or two years, there really is no telling. They recommended he have follow-up bloodwork every 6 months for the remainder of his life and to strictly stay on a prescription diet, as well as antacids daily. He seems to LOVE this diet, as he's definitely on the chunkier side (haha). While Hank is good with other dogs, we believe Hank would do best in a home with no other animals so that his chances of eating un-approved food will be minimized to help maximize his life expectancy as much as possible.

Please note: Our dogs are rescued from high-kill situations in the South and brought up to New England for foster and/or adoption. We are entirely volunteer-run and foster-based, so we do not have a physical facility, and we cannot guarantee a dog is housebroken or cat/kid-tested. Pre-approved adopters can arrange a meet and greet for dogs over 6 months old who are already in New England, and the adopter is expected to travel to the dog's location. Applications must be submitted at HarveysHope.org for consideration. We estimate it will be 1-2 weeks before you hear from one of our volunteers, depending on volume at the time of submission. Thank you!

Her name is Angel for a reason- just look at that sweet face! We support the theory that this puppy is a gift from heaven, sent to give love and snuggles to her future family. This tricolor cutie loves kids- she is sweet, and gentle with them, and isn't scared of them at all, so we could see her thriving in a family with some little ones running around. Angel will be 6 months old when she comes to New England at the beginning of January, so she will be spayed with all her puppy shots UTD, ready to brave Northern winters with you! She is 20-25 lbs as of the beginning of December, so we imagine she will be a medium-sized dog. If you think Angel could be the answer to your prayers, apply to be the answer to hers! Please note: Our dogs are rescued from high-kill situations in the South and brought up to New England for foster and/or adoption. Meet Annie, the life of the party! When Annie is around people and other dogs, she struts around, giving everyone playful hellos. This social butterfly is all about interacting, and she does her "rounds" with lots of excitement and pizazz. Her real best friend is a similarly-sized male dog, so we could see her living her best life with a playmate (preferably male, too, since she doesn't love the competition of another Queen Bee) in her forever home. Our vet says she's about three years old, so she's got plenty of time to spend with her furever family. She loves a good pet almost as much as a good party. Annie has made her way up north into a foster home, so if you want to spend furever with this precocious personality, fill out an application! Please note: Our dogs are rescued from high-kill situations in the South and brought up to New England for foster and/or adoption. Aurelia is a resilient lady who is ready to find her family! Her name means "the golden one" which is fitting because she has a heart of gold.  This 5-year-old pit mix is a funny girl who can be found shaking her toys around on the lawn. She loves, loves, loves food, and truly enjoys keeping humans company. Aurelia was abandoned in the woods with her baby, Plum, who was adopted earlier this year. When we found her, Aurelia was completely emaciated and heartworm positive with serious gastric issues that have taken months of special food to try to fix due to the damage it did to her body. While she is still on special food, she's been recovering really well and is finally heartworm negative! Add this golden mama to your home! Bambi is approximately 7 years old and is looking for her forever home. Just like her namesake, Bambi hasn't always had it easy, but she's really shown improvement in the time she's spent at a board & train program.  Her dream forever home would be with adults or older children (over 10) who will be gentle, loving, and patient with her, either with a submissive, smaller dog or only dog getting all of the loving (but no cats, please). She will need to work with a behaviorist in her new home, as she's incredibly submissive and clearly has been abused in the past, but she's a sweet girl who would make up for her shortcomings with lots of love! Her puppy, Flower, has already found her family in New England. Can you help this mama and apply to foster or adopt her? Please note: Our dogs are rescued from high-kill situations in the South and brought up to New England for foster and/or adoption. These two black lab puppies, Rocky and Bullwinkle, were living under a trailer in Atlanta with their mama, a pretty, black flat-coated retriever. A friend of ours saw them on the side of the road and spoke with the original owner, who has stage 4 lung cancer and can’t take care of the dogs anymore. He told her if she could catch them, she could take them. Our friend decided to keep the mama but we are finding a home up north for two of her beautiful boy pups. Bullwinkle and Rocky are very handsome, playful young black lab mixes who will be coming up to New England at the beginning of 2022. If you want to start out the New Year with a sweet, handsome, new family member, get your applications in now! Cole (fka Pepperoni) is a little bit like most of us after the past year- introverted and unsure he's ready to be social. At just three years old, Cole is a shy boy who is looking for an experienced adopter to take it slow. He may take a moment to realize he can trust you, but once he comes around, he'll let you pet him (a lick you if you stop so he can get more pets), and he's sweeter than sugar. He is friendly with the other dogs at his current foster home in South Carolina, but often just prefers to keep to himself. This cutie loves a good bone but isn't always treat motivated. Cole came from the big Harris county pull we did in Texas during the winter storm. His foster says "Cole came to me when he would not walk on a leash, was scared of touch, and just shook the whole time. He was slated for euthanasia in TX. He now walks on a leash, doesn’t shake anymore, and will let me love on him." While he's slow to trust others, "he doesn’t do anything aggressive, just annoying. So he needs someone willing to put the time in with him and then he will do great. Oh and he is dog friendly but doesn’t depend on another dog." If you feel this sweet pup could thrive in your home, please apply to foster or adopt him today! The key to Emma's heart is a snuggle and a hotdog. Can you count all the ways that she smiles? This 3-year-old sweetheart is from Harris County, TX. Weighing in at about 50 pounds, she's been determined to be a Staffy/Basset mix. You may not be able to tell from her pictures, but she's a low-riding girl. Emma has received her vaccines and been spayed, so now she is just waiting for someone to take her home forever! Our boarding partner in SC says that Emma is absolutely the sweetest girl, all around! They love her! They said "Emma is going to be someone's best friend! She really just wants to hang out with you, no matter what you're doing." She has learned to sit and is really close to mastering "down," and isn't a fan of being in her crate; she's a little social butterfly and loves to be around people. The shelter told us that Emma was cat-friendly, but she wasn't a big fan of the cat she met with us, so we're going to suggest she isn't in a home with cats. Emma will be coming up to New England in December; so apply now to foster or adopt this sweet girl!   Please note: Our dogs are rescued from high-kill situations in the South and brought up to New England for foster and/or adoption.
