About Thelma

Adoption Fee: $200 for Senior Dogs

Name: Thelma
Suspected Breed(s): Beagle mix
Gender:  Female
Age: ~10 years old. Thelma is available for our $200 senior fee
Weight: 34 lbs
Personality: Adaptable, calm, funny, quiet, gentle, trainable, and energetic, and adventurous.
Observations with Dogs: Thelma interacts well with calm dogs; she goes in happily (tail a-wagging) for a quick sniff, but then moves on. She does not do well with dogs all up in her face and will let them know that.
Observations with Cats: Thelma tested calm with the shelter cats, but she has not lived with any.
Observations with Kids: Thelma has been gentle and ambivalent with the kids she has met at adoption events.
House Training Progress: No recent accidents.
Crate Training Progress: Thelma loves her crate, but she is trusted to be left out when she is home alone.
Location: DC area foster
Rescued From: Bladen County, NC
Additional Information:
Thelma is a super sweet and sassy senior who has a joie de vivre and energy to match! She is so friendly and loving. She happily snoozes during the day so she is the perfect work-from-home companion, but she also loves to get out and go for walks so she will make sure you get plenty of fresh air. Thelma requests belly rubs by reaching out her little paw to get your attention. She’s happy to meet other dogs and even happier exploring what kind of delicious treats might be available. Thelma enjoys hopping on the couch and snuggling with her people, and she is also always ready for an adventure or outing to see something new. She knows the words “sit” and “leave it.” Thelma has an adorable grumble sound that she makes when she's settling in for a rest and will make anyone laugh with her silly antics. She's such a good girl and deserves a nice, warm, comfy home to be spoiled in!

City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model).

Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.
Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis.

Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Name:  Amira Suspected Breed(s):  Hound Mix Gender:  Female Age:  7 years **Available for senior adoption fee of $200** Weight:  45 lbs Personality:  Friendly, goofy, calm, snuggler, gentle, affectionate Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs   Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Amira has not lived with children, but has been calm when meeting them out on walks. House Training Progress: Making great progress on house training Crate Training Progress: Amira is good in her crate (quiets after 15 min or less) Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus County, NC Additional Information: Amira is an adorably loving and goofy gal ready to meet her furever people! While Amira is a "sensational senior," she sure has some pep in her step, especially in the morning when she's eager to start the day. Amira LOVES to be outside: she will always let her people know when she wants to be out and about soaking up the sun. Amira is very good at walking on her leash, and she is not one to drag her human along. She is content to experience the great outdoors as a team! This gentle gal is not only great with people, but other dogs too: Amira has not met a single pupper she hasn’t loved.  When Amira is not out getting her exercise, she enjoys snoozing on the sofa or in her crate. Sofa time with her people is even better!  She will gladly cuddle up to watch all your favorite shows with you. Other than walk time, her favorite time of day is meal time! Amira has yet to try a treat she hasn’t enjoyed to the fullest. Because of her love for the outdoors, Amira would do wonderfully in a home with a fenced-in yard or at least some grass space where she can hang out during the day and take naps in the sun. That said, Amira would love any home with people to adventure and snuggle with! Apply today and you will fall in love with Amira! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Observations with Dogs: Anyx loves going to doggy day care or play dates to socialize and burn off some energy! He also does well greeting other dogs out on walks. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Anyx has not lived with children, but when he meets them on walks hegives them lots of kisses and allows them to pet him. Anyx sometimes jumps up when greeting strangers, so he might do better with slightly older children until he receives more training.  House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Anyx generally does well in the crate. He sleeps in it overnight and goes in periodically throughout the day, though breaks and some playtime at doggy day care are important to burn off some energy if he needs to be crated for longer periods.  Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus County, NC Additional Information: Anyx is about as loving and affectionate as a dog gets. You'll never feel lonely with Anyx around! He loves to give his favorite people kisses and is always up for an adventure in the car. He also gets along great with other dogs and especially enjoys going on play dates or for long walks. When it's time for his people to work Anyx is happy to hang out nearby or to play with his toys. This smart boy has tons of love to give and would do great with an adopter who’s willing to work with him on some basic manners like demand barking and on building up his confidence in crowded places. What he loves more than meeting new people is dinner, or lunch, or breakfast. Archie likes to eat. He loves to climb and play. He turns into a savage if he has a puffball toy and any of the other cats try to take it away. Archie will protect his toys with his life.  Archie has age-appropriate vetting to date, which includes a veterinary exam, deworming, microchip, and the first FVRCP vaccine. An adopter will need to agree to cover costs of spay/neuter when he/she is age-appropriate (usually 16-20 weeks) and will need to continue his/her kitten vaccines (including rabies) as he/she grows older. Kittens under 12 weeks of age must be adopted in pairs or to a home with friendly resident feline. Most importantly, he has all the positive qualities you could possibly hope to find in a kitty! Arthur's a true gentleman; calm and easygoing as well as affectionate. He loves to play with a special toy that will go with him when he's adopted. When not at play, Arthur enjoys watching the birds or mingling with the resident dogs. His best friend is Piggybits, and while they're not an officially bonded pair, they'd love to go to the same home if you're open to having more than one kitty; they really love each other. Name:  Balor Suspected Breed(s):  Hound Mix Gender:  Male Age:  3 years Weight:  31 lbs Personality:  Friendly, easygoing, eager to please, affectionate, playful, funny, adaptable, smart Observations with Dogs: Generally good with other dogs on and off leash  Observations with Cats: Balor does well with the three resident cats in his foster home. He mostly ignores them. When he is in a playful mood, he might paw at them but doesn’t hurt them. The cats aren't scared of him and will sleep right next to him on the couch. Observations with Kids: Balor has met children while out on walks and is happy to sniff and greet them. He calmly accepts pats and pets but otherwise he is fairly ambivalent. Balor has not yet lived with children. House Training Progress: A couple of accidents as he got adjusted to his new foster home, but no recent accidents. He tends to like his particular “spots” in the backyard to go potty. He is not yet comfortable going #2 outside on walks -- only in the backyard. Crate Training Progress: Balor generally quiets quickly in the crate and can be left in there for up to six hours at a time.  Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus County, NC Additional Information: Balor is a gentle and playful sweetheart. He likes to be near you and will sometimes paw at you for more attention and reassurance, but he’s not a Velcro dog. He is excellent walking on the leash and does not pull! He is the perfect size — big enough to keep pace with you on a walk and small enough to take up minimal space next to you on the couch. :) He loves chew toys (especially chewing through them) and gets along great with cats, dogs, and children alike. He's learning how to relax and enjoy life, though he also has some adorable spurts of energy and playfulness. He is sometimes startled by loud or sudden noises and may do best in a quiet suburban home. He’s not too food-motivated but is well-behaved and smart, and knows the words "no" and "off.” He’d make a great companion for an adopter who can help him work on some basic commands and building up his confidence. Apply today to meet Balor!  __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV, when age appropriate, but not when born to a negative mother in foster care.  Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less
