Meet Alexus, an absolutely gorgeous white and black, female about 2 years old. This beauty keeps her fur in pristine condition! She and her 3 kittens were found staying close to a house in a rural area of Culpeper. Alexus, risked her life protecting them from a predator, and was found one day coming out of the woods, limping, swollen-faced, and bloodied. She constantly moved her babies to keep them safe. First to they all lived in a lawn mower bag, (Yes! You read right!) then she moved them up to a car engine. The kind lady living in the house trapped all of them and brought them to safety. Alexus' Violet Socialization Scale 4-5/10 Alexus has free roam of the cat playroom, but is skittish, and afraid to be touched. She loves climbing on the cat climber and looking out the window at nature, loves her canned food, is fabulous in the litter box, and gets along great with the other cats. Like all cats in the Shrinking Violets, Alexus needs an indoor only, quiet, low activity home with either no children or children over the age of 15 to blossom. We have not had a Violet yet that didn't absolutely flourish in a quiet home and become an awesome member of the family. It just takes patience. Alexus currently rates a 4-5/10 on our socialization scale, with 10 being a purrfect house cat, and is beginning to be interested in people. Alexus is spayed, has had her 1st set of rabies and distemper vaccines, and has tested negative for feline leukemia. Bashful is a beautiful short haired, gray and white cat, about 4 years old. She came to us awhile ago when she was pregnant with kittens, Her kittens have long been adopted, and now we are hoping that someone will adopt Bashful, too. Bashful was born to a feral mom, living in the woods on someone's rural property. She and her sister, Ghost (also available) often came to the porch to be fed and were used to being around people. Bashful has been with us for a few years. She is a Violet, meaning she does not like to be touched. (You can read more about Violets here: https://www.forgottenfelinesculpeper.org/violets) As you probably know by her name, she is bashful and likes to stay in the background, Once she knows you, she is comfortable being very close to you and may trust you enough to pet her head. She enjoys canned food every morning and loves looking out at the birds every day on her climber. She is great in the litterbox. We believe that once Bashful is in a quiet home, she will blossom. She will need a quiet home with no children or teenage-aged kids, that is low activity. She must be an indoor only cat. Bashful will be spayed, receive a rabies and distemper vaccine, be tested negative for FIV, feline leukemia, and heartworm. Meet Benson, a 1 year old beautiful brown tabby who is a silly lovebug that will keep you laughing. Here is the story of Benson and his girlfriend, Karen. Karen and Benson … a love story that plays like Lady and the Tramp. Both escaped death row at the kill shelter, months apart from each other. Benson came on May 30th, Karen came with her 7 kittens in tow on July 1st. When Karen finished with mom duties, she would play with the other foster cats and have free-reign of her foster home. At night, she would return to her crate suite until she was acclimated to the foster home. Soon I began to notice that Benson would sleep on the table next to her crate every night, with his paw inside the crate. The next morning, he would wait by her door until she came out and off they would go. They were always together – playing, sleeping, eating, and grooming each other. Karen is a petite little Abyssinian, very cuddly, sweet, and mannerly. While all the other males in the foster home tried to spend time with her, she would only hiss at them, but would always be very sweet with Benson. Benson is a gray, adorable tabby cat. He is your Tramp – rough around the edges, but with a heart of gold. He is super sweet and loving, just doesn’t always show it in the right way, and is socially awkward. He is an explorer and is always getting himself into crazy situations – knocking things over, getting closed in the kitchen lazy-Susan cabinet (twice!), or locked in the hall closet. If someone is here to fix the plumbing – Benson is all over it – in the cabinet, in the toolbox – he needs to know every last detail. He is simply adorable, but can be a bit exasperating as you never know what he will get into next as he follows you all over the house. At times I will raise my voice when he gets into something and Karen will come running to get him out of trouble and lead him away. Benson simply adores her. He watches over her and is always with her and she does the same. If another cat is trying to play with Benson and hides and pounces on him, Karen is all over it – jumping in between the two and hissing. There is no denying these two are very bonded. Sadly, they are still here waiting for their happily ever after. Everyone wants Karen, of course, she is an exotic Abyssinian…but when they hear she must be adopted with her boyfriend, Benson, we don’t hear from them again. No one wants a plain old tabby like Benson. Both are spayed or neutered, received a rabies vaccine, an FVRCP vaccine, tested negative for FIV, and feline leukemia, and both are microchipped with a lifetime registration. Meet the handsome Bentley, just over a year old, handsome white and gray Agean tabby. Bentley came to us on the Freedom Ride in January 2019. We were told the vet was coming that day to euthanize the cats that other rescues had not chosen, and poor Bentley was among them. His shelter picture (below). devestated me. He looked as though he had given up any hope of ever getting out. He KNEW his fate. He, like his best bud, Stripes, is the King of the House. He is the ladies man with swagger, the cats' meow, if you will. All the cat ladies love Bentley, as he is a groomer and a charmer...until he isn't. It is then that you will hear, "Meeeeooooowwww!" and Bentley and his partner in crime, Stripes will come roaring around the corner, with at least 3 lady cats chasing him. Bentley and Stripes are bonded and must be adopted together. There is a discount for adopting both. You are truly missing out, if you don't welcome these two into your home. You will never be bored or lonely during quarantine again! They will keep you amused and laughing. Meet BobbiJo! She came to us from a TNR from the "stone castle house" on Sperryville Pike with Taylor and Cupcake in the winter of 2014. She is a bobtailed, short-haired, brown tabby with an ear-tip. Miss BobbiJo has come a LONG way. Once she is comfortable in her surroundings, she is calm and interested in people. She puts her nose out to touch my hand and has allowed me to pet her a few times. Meet Carla and bonded sister, Marla! These girls are just 5 months old and are beautiful gray tabby kittens who have had a rough start to life.They are bonded and MUST be adopted together. Carla and Marla were found in early December living in a sewer on a busy Culpeper street with their mom, Darla Mae. These cuties are very playful and love, love, love to play with anything - their cat tree, laser pointers, even a piece of paper can provide hours of fun!! However, because of all have gone through, they are understandably very shy and currently only like to be pet when they are eating. That being said, they are only 5 months old, so once they are in a quiet home and grow to trust their new mommy and/or daddy, that will most likely change. Carla and Marla will need a quiet, low activity home together with kids 12 years old or older or no children at all. They are completely vetted and have been dewormed, spayed, have had 3 FVRCP vaccines, a rabies vaccine, and are tested negative for FIV, and feline leukemia. Meet Catelyn and her adult son, Rickon!  They came to us after a Good Samaritan found them living under an apartment building shed, attempting to fend for themselves. Catelyn is a Russian Blue mix with an adorable cotton-ball tail tip! She's a little scout, always curious what everyone else is up to, and greets her foster mom when she arrives home from work. She has “Resting Concerned Face,” - she always looks like she's making sure everything is okay. Catelyn always knows when it's canned food or treat time and is an absolute sweetheart. Rickon, is an all black male, just barely a year old, and is Catelyn’s son.  He is super soft and has fur that's not quite long but definitely longer than standard short hair. He inherited the tiniest bit of white on the tip of his tail. Rickon is very much a mama's boy, and he and Catelyn play and snuggle together a lot. He's the shyer of the two, but he likes to snuggle at bedtime and wakes up his foster mom in the morning by playing with her hands. He's still got a lot of kitten energy and loves to run around playing with Catelyn and the other cats. Both Catelyn and Rickon must be adopted together as they are very bonded. Meet Chloe Jo! Chloe Jo is a gray tabby about 1-2 years old. She found herself on a high-kill euthanasia list and we scooped her up. The night before she was supposed to come to us, I looked at her photo again and asked the shelter volunteer, "Are you sure she isn't pregnant?" Sure enough, Chloe Jo gave birth that night to 6 kittens (Curly Sue, Forrester, Levi, Colton, and Cody, and one passed), so it would be a week before she and her new family made the trip to us and came into our care. Chloe was a good mom and was very protective. Her babies never wanted for anything. Now they are grown and each is finding their own home, and it is Chloe Jo's turn. As with most moms who come from a bad situation with their kittens, we are waiting for Chloe Jo to loose her "mama bear persona" and just be Chloe. Once she is spayed, she will relax a bit and we will get to see her true personality. For now, she is still protecting her babies and is a bit "hands-off," so we are giving her her space. :0) Chloe Jo will be spayed, has received an FVRCP vaccine, a rabies vaccine, tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration, meaning you won't need to pay $20+ every year to re-register her chip. Meet Fisher! Fisher s a dark orange colored tabby, just 4 1/2 months old. He and his siblings, Dune, Cricket, JuneBug, and Tadpole were literally dumped at the county dump as though they were trash. Thank goodness someone found them. Unfortunately, they brought them to a high-kill shelter that was over-capacity and they were immediately slated for death. Forgotten Felines of Culpeper jumped in to save them and they came to us on the Freedom Ride on July 8th. These poor babies were thin and sickly but are all better now. Every single kitten in the litter is a purr machine, loving, playful, and sweet. Fisher is no exception. His purrfect home would be just about any home, he would need to be adopted with a sibling or another kitten, and he must be an indoor only cat. Fisher can sometimes be a bit of a loner. He is the first one to escape the room, but instantly regrets his decision and tries to get back into the room with his siblings, often crying to be with them. However, he will elude capture til the last possible minute before allowing you to get him and place him back with his siblings. He is a character, but he has a strong family bond with them, probably because of all they have been through together. Fisher is neutered, had 2 distemper vaccines, a rabies vaccine, tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration - you won't need to pay every year to re-register her. Meet Isa! Isa is a beautiful 3  year old torti with colors of black, tan, and cream. She was named after Dora the Explorer's lizard, Isa and was surrendered by her owners last year when she became pregnant and they could no longer afford to keep her. She was the mom of kittens Paisley, Paris, Jet, Grady, and Grant. Isa has a very quirky personality. She always wants to be near you; she always wants to eat what you're eating; and always wants to be doing what you're doing, and will sleep on your lap while you are watching tv.. LOL. She is just.that.way. She needs to be in the middle of everything. She is a lovebug (though not a cuddler), and will curl up on your lap while you're watching TV and go to sleep. Her personality lends itself to a loyal companion. She is very affectionate and loves attention, literally **racing** to meet you at the door and "talking" to you. She will follow you around the room, and when you go inside a room and close the door, if she can't quickly squeeze through the door, she will meow to you as if to say, "Hey! Are you coming out soon? I miss you," put her paws under the door and meow every now and then so you don't forget she is out there. (As if!!) She will definitely keep you laughing. Isa gets along with other cats, but will hiss to put them in their place, if needed. Isa's purrfect home is a quiet, low activity home with teenage children or no children at all, as at times (1x in over a year) she has been known to nip gently. Meet Karen! Karen is a beautiful, long and sleek, Abyssinian mix, about a year old. She was the mom of  7 kittens (Albert, Florence, Emmett, Percy, Rosalind, Mae, & Ashanti).  She came to us on July 1st from a high kill shelter, escaping death, as she and her young family were on the euthanasia list.  Karen is a lovebug. She loves to walk around the house and say hello to everyone, often rubbing against your leg or placing her forehead into the palm of your hand. She loves to be picked up and cuddled and will watch tv on your lap. The perfect pandemic companion!
