Daddy Ox originally lived on a farm but was a little too social to be an outdoor-only kitty.  So he came to ASHA in search of a new home.  At ASHA, Daddy Ox met Mama Kyi, and the two cats took a liking to each other.  Daddy Ox and Mama Kyi are fostered together and doing so well! They will likely never be lap kitties, but their foster Mom reports they are still sweet, affectionate kitties who like to be near people. She says they make progress every day, becoming more confident and comfortable. They will rub on their foster Mom's legs at feeding time and enjoy being petted, even if it's on their own terms. Daddy Ox likes to sleep at the end of his foster Mom's bed, and Mama Kyi will sometimes even let her foster Mom rub her belly.  Daddy Ox and Mama Kyi are also very playful. They love their toys and playtime with their foster Mom. They also have great scratching habits and use their scratchers all the time.  We are confident these young cats will continue to blossom in the right home.  A quiet, adults-only home would be best!  NO kids under age 12 please.      If you are looking for two beautiful, amazing cats who really deserve a chance at forever, please consider putting in an application.   Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! The first step in the adoption process is the adoption application which is located on our website rescueandadopt.org/adopt.  Our website includes a lot of info, including a FAQ page with lots of answers. Once your application is reviewed we will contact you to schedule the home check video chat to ensure that you have all the basic supplies set up in an isolation/ introduction room and there are no health hazards to the cat in your home. We can also help answer any additional questions you may have at this time. Next is the meet and greet with you and the adoptable kitty you're interested in. We are a foster system so we do not have a facility. Visits to meet an adoptable animal at a foster family is by appointment only. In the rare case that you decide your initial kitty isn't the right fit, we can introduce you to our many other types of cats to find the right fit. Once you have settled on your new furry family member, the next step is to complete and sign the online adoption contract to finalize the adoption. Adoption Fees: $150 for kittens and cats under 5 years old and $125 for cats 5 years old and older.  We do offer a 15% discount for adopting 2 ADULT cats (over 1 year old) at once.   show less

Adopting Feral & Semi-Friendly Barn & Farm Cats - FREE All Natural Organic Pest Control! We work mostly with TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay and RELOCATE) of abandoned, stray and feral cats living in dangerous situations and locations. Living in sewers, on the streets, under bridges, in parking lots, beside highways and in non cat friendly neighborhoods are just some of the places we have rescued kitties from. We trap them using live traps or nets, and then get them much needed vetting - so no more kittens! When trapping cats we find that many times there are just one or two in the area, but most times there is a whole colony of 6-30 cats of various ages. For the kittens that are under about 6 months old we set them up indoors with a foster family, and work to socialize them to be placed in an indoor only forever home. For the older kitties that are set in their ways and not open to trusting people, they are placed at a barn foster until we find a forever farm for them to live out the rest of their days. Forever farms do not have any fees for adopting nor the adoption application. We require a minimum of 2 cats be relocated together. They may not be bonded, but this way they have a friend and companion that is also new to the area. We have many cats that are completely feral and will only been seen from afar once acclimated and released. But we also have many cats that are semi-friendly and are essentially just outdoor cats. When setting them up we provide a large cage to acclimate them to the area, as well as the initial necessary supplies: litter box, litter, food, bowls, bedding. After a minimum of 3-4 weeks in which they are acclimated the kitties can be released from the cages. We then will pick up the cage and any unused supplies you do not wish to keep. Cats are fully vetted, including: tested for FeLV, FIV, intestinal parasites, up to date on rabies and FVRCP, spayed/neutered and ear tipped. We can, upon request, microchip the cats. Most cats are FeLV and FIV negative, but we do have a few that are FIV positive and healthy, and still need forever homes too! FIV positive cats can successfully and safely live with other cats! Ask us for more info! These cats make wonderful rodent, bird, and pest control for farms, gardens, granaries, barns and any large properties including wineries, warehouses, dry docks, marinas, stables, nurseries, orchards, pet stores. Any place natural pest control is desired. We deliver!! Making it easy on you, we will come to you! Any location in MD, PA, VA, WV or surrounding areas. The farther from BWI area, the more cats we would prefer to place, as it's more gas mileage and time for our non-paid volunteers. Please consider giving a second chance to a kitty that doesn't deserve to live day by day scavenging for scraps and being hunted by nasty people looking to torture them for the fun of it. Many stray, abandoned, and feral cats are used for dog fighting bait so saving 2 today gives us the room to pull 2 more off the streets! Email us for more info! ASAHAmaryland@gmail.com or find us online at rescueandadopt.org We constantly have cats in need of barns, farms, wooded areas, warehouses, wineries, breweries, churches... wherever they may be welcomed, cared for, and safe. So the picture posted here is llikely not the kitty we have currently available. But we can send you pictures!  show less

Poor Kya has been back at the rescue for months and is still waiting for her forever home. She may start off shy, but she is really the perfect package - sweet and playful! Once Kya gets to know you, she will follow you around and talk to you (non-stop, ha)!  Kya enjoys being in the company of her humans even though she isn't a real snuggly lap cat. Kya is a kitten at heart -- she enjoys catnip, wand toys, tunnels and using her scratching post. Kya is also curious and interested in exploring everything in the room. She defiitely needs someone to engage her and play with her!        Kya was adopted as a little kitten in 2019 and returned to the rescue iin 2023 for having issues with the other cats in the home. She was fully examined by the vet and determined to have no medical issues. At her foster home, Kya has been totally fine with the resident cat, who is an adult male. We think Kya would do fine in a home as the only cat or in a home with 1 other calm, laidback adult kitty who leaves her alone or peacefuly coexists with her and doesn't care that she is there. Kya would not do well with a kitty who tries to engage her in play, etc. She has lived with young children and done fine with them. She has not lived with dogs.   Interested in Adopting a kitty?! Mama Uni did a great job raising her baby, who has now been adopted. Mama Uni has a sweet, calm, loving personality. She does not like to be picked up and can get panicked and hide when there is commotion or loud noise or sudden movements. We would suggest an adults-only home or with children 10 years old and above. Mama Uni was fostered with dogs and did not like them.
