* Arthur and Cider are a bonded pair *  Arthur is a sweet boy who was living as part of an outdoor cat colony in Baltimore City.  Arthur was scheduled to be TNR'ed (Trap-Neuter-Return), but he was too sweet to put back outside, so he came to rescue.  Arthur is a very outgoing, very friendly boy!  He is great with other cats and small children, too!  He is a little hesistant about dogs, but he should be OK with calm dogs who do not bother him, after a proper introduction.  Arthur is particularly good buddies with Cider, who happens to look like his twin, although they are not actually brothers.  Arthur and Cider have shown they are bonded while in foster, so we would love for them to go to a home together!   Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! The first step in the adoption process is the adoption application which is located on our website rescueandadopt.org/adopt.  Our website includes a lot of info, including a FAQ page with lots of answers. Once your application is reviewed we will contact you to schedule the home check video chat to ensure that you have all the basic supplies set up in an isolation/ introduction room and there are no health hazards to the cat in your home. We can also help answer any additional questions you may have at this time. Next is the meet and greet with you and the adoptable kitty you're interested in. We are a foster system so we do not have a facility. Visits to meet an adoptable animal at a foster family is by appointment only. In the rare case that you decide your initial kitty isn't the right fit, we can introduce you to our many other types of cats to find the right fit. Once you have settled on your new furry family member, the next step is to complete and sign the adoption contract with an ASHA volunteer to finalize the adoption. Adoption Fees: $125 for kittens under a year old and $75 for cats over a year old.  We do offer a 15% discount for adopting 2 cats at once.   show less

* Cider and Arthur are a bonded pair *  Cider wants YOU to pay attention to him - please!  Cider is a super friendly and outgoing boy who just can't wait to be in a forever home and have a family of his own.  While in foster, Cider has been housed with and totally fine with multiple other cats.  He is particularly good buddies with Arthur, who also happens to look like his twin, although they are not actually brothers.  Cider and Arthur have grown to be a bonded pair while in foster, and we would love them to be adopted together.  Cider was very good with the young children in his first foster home, and he is tolerant of calm dogs.      Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! **Damion is Felv -- feline leukemia -- positive.  He is FIV negative** Damion was rescued from a home where the owner had passed away and family did not want to take on the responisbillities of the cats.  He was essentially a feral, stayed outside and was not friendly at all. He went in for vetting and was tested as FeLV POSITIVE, so the vet called us to confirm we wanted to euthanize him. But FeLV is not a medical necessity in our books to euthanize. So he got fully vetted, came back to foster and was kept away from other cats. At first he was as wild as a Black Panther. People couldn't get near him, and he would lash out as soon as we would come near.   After recovering from his initial shock of people and the new place, he settled in and slowly showed his soft side. It's been months now and he is one of the most friendly and outgoing kitties we know.  Great with dogs, kids and strangers - he would do ok with other cats too, but as FeLV positive he will need to be with ONLY other kitties that have tested positive for Felv too. We are looking in to get him further tested too to see which stage he is at as he has NO symptoms and is a roburst and healthy boy. Up to date on vaccines, neutered, dewormed, microchipped and has tested negative for FIV and POSITIVE FeLV.   He has not shown any symptoms and is strong and well at this time - we expect him to live a long, happy life INSIDE.  Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Adopting Feral & Semi-Friendly Barn & Farm Cats - FREE All Natural Organic Pest Control! We work mostly with TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay and RELOCATE) of abandoned, stray and feral cats living in dangerous situations and locations. Living in sewers, on the streets, under bridges, in parking lots, beside highways and in non cat friendly neighborhoods are just some of the places we have rescued kitties from. We trap them using live traps or nets, and then get them much needed vetting - so no more kittens! When trapping cats we find that many times there are just one or two in the area, but most times there is a whole colony of 6-30 cats of various ages. For the kittens that are under about 6 months old we set them up indoors with a foster family, and work to socialize them to be placed in an indoor only forever home. For the older kitties that are set in their ways and not open to trusting people, they are placed at a barn foster until we find a forever farm for them to live out the rest of their days. Forever farms do not have any fees for adopting nor the adoption application. We require a minimum of 2 cats be relocated together. They may not be bonded, but this way they have a friend and companion that is also new to the area. We have many cats that are completely feral and will only been seen from afar once acclimated and released. But we also have many cats that are semi-friendly and are essentially just outdoor cats. When setting them up we provide a large cage to acclimate them to the area, as well as the initial necessary supplies: litter box, litter, food, bowls, bedding. After a minimum of 3-4 weeks in which they are acclimated the kitties can be released from the cages. We then will pick up the cage and any unused supplies you do not wish to keep. Cats are fully vetted, including: tested for FeLV, FIV, intestinal parasites, up to date on rabies and FVRCP, spayed/neutered and ear tipped. We can, upon request, microchip the cats. Most cats are FeLV and FIV negative, but we do have a few that are FIV positive and healthy, and still need forever homes too! FIV positive cats can successfully and safely live with other cats! Ask us for more info! These cats make wonderful rodent, bird, and pest control for farms, gardens, granaries, barns and any large properties including wineries, warehouses, dry docks, marinas, stables, nurseries, orchards, pet stores. Any place natural pest control is desired. We deliver!! Making it easy on you, we will come to you! Any location in MD, PA, VA, WV or surrounding areas. The farther from BWI area, the more cats we would prefer to place, as it's more gas mileage and time for our non-paid volunteers. Please consider giving a second chance to a kitty that doesn't deserve to live day by day scavenging for scraps and being hunted by nasty people looking to torture them for the fun of it. Many stray, abandoned, and feral cats are used for dog fighting bait so saving 2 today gives us the room to pull 2 more off the streets! Email us for more info! ASAHAmaryland@gmail.com or find us online at rescueandadopt.org We constantly have cats in need of barns, farms, wooded areas, warehouses, wineries, breweries, churches... wherever they may be welcomed, cared for, and safe. So the picture posted here is llikely not the kitty we have currently available. But we can send you pictures!  show less

Meet Toothless Flex!  Flex is a shy, but sweet kitty who was rescued from living outside on city streets.  Once he warms up to you, he loves affection.  He even lets his foster Mom hold him and purrs so sweetly.  Flex loves to recharge in sunny spots on the windowsill and will do best with a patient adopter in a quiet home.   Flex had to undergo multiple dental surgeries due to infections.  When he came off the street he was fighting an upper respiratory infection that just wouldn't get any better.  He wasn't eating right, so we sent him back to the vet and that's when they found out that his teeth all needed to be pulled.  So now he is a toothless sweetheart!   Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Kingston is an all-around good dog!  Kingston is the perfect blend of sorta active and super lazy & loving.  Kingston is always eager to play in the backyard.  He loves most of all to just explore with his nose and run around the yard chasing wildlife, and then he is just as happy to come in and take a long nap and chill.  Kingston is ONLY good with OLDER children (15yo and above).  Kingston was surrendered by the only owner he had since he was a puppy, when they no longer wanted to deal with the dogs with 2 children in the home.    At his original home, he was kept outside in the fenced in yard or in a crate 99% of the time and not allowed to interact and be one with the family often. He was never taken on long hikes or adventures with the kids and owners. Because of this he did not grow up with the 2 kids, and he now resource guards his area and will need continuous training to keep working on his insecurities.  His perfect forever family would be someone (or someones) that have the time and energy to continue his Nose Work; it's essentially a great fun way to keep him mentally stimulated, and physically active without having to do long walks which he is not a fan of. He has begun the first steps of Nose work where he learns how to search for treats by smell, you can continue the training to more advanced levels where he sniffs out different smells in larger and larger areas. This is the basic training of dogs such as bomb sniffing K9, as well as search and rescue. He loves to be petted on his stomach and his ears. He is not best with younger kids because he gets over stimulated by the kids being loud and rambunctious around him from time to time. Even though he gives warning signs, younger kids do not understand those signals and we never want to put a dog and child in a situation that could be a potential problem, thus he must go to a family with older kids.  He is good with other dogs and cats - sometimes, but being a Beagle Boxer mix his hunting side comes out with smaller animals so if the cats are skittish and run or are spooked easily he will give chase. He has only ever been around his adopted sister Blue who was a Blue Tick hound, so he does not have the foundation to play well with smaller dogs and sees them as something to chase. He is also fairly vocal being a Beagle Boxer mix so his new owners can't have thin walls with neighbors that would be upset easily.  He has had a rough time of it most of his life and really needs to find the perfect forever family that will be able to bring out the best in him. He is available for foster to adopt which gives you a month to foster him before deciding if he is the perfect fit for your family. Interested in adopting one of our pets?! Smiley is a lucky little girl!  Smiley came to us with a terrible upper respiratory infection that caused some damage to one of her eyes.  Her eye has thankfully mostly healed and is only a bit cloudy from her previous neglect outdoors.  It doesn't affect her vision and will not require any follow-up vet care.  Smiley doesn't let her past bring her down.  She is doing so well in her foster home!  Smiley loves catnip, chasing toys and especially loves being petted.  She is a petite little thing but has a big personality.  She is also so cute with her multi-colored whiskers.  Do you have a forever home for this sweet kitty?   Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Tortellini is a beautiful, sweet and gentle girl.  When she came to rescue, she was very scared and it took her a while to warm up to her foster Mom.  Now her foster Mom reports that Toretellini plays all evening and sleeps on her foster Mom all night!  Toretellini is a "hungry hippo" according to her foster Mom, so food and treats will likely be the way to win her heart. She also *loves* catnip and rolling around in it.  Tortellini will need a patient adopter to give her time to open up in her new home.  NO small children please.  Totellini does well with other cats.  She has not been around dogs.  We are confident that Tortellini will do well with the right family!      Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Urban is 13 weeks old as of 8/22.  Urban is a loving, playful kitten who needs just a bit of time to warm up to new people.  Urban loves to play and isn't bothered by his foster bird brother.  Urban likes his belly to be rubbed 🙂 He is definitely a talker and will let you know if he's unhappy with either where he is or what's going on around him!  He also loves laying on his foster Mom's shoulder!  See his adorable 2nd photo...  if you can be just a little patient with Urban at first, he is sure to become your best friend.   Urban still gets startled/scared with loud sounds, so would best be suited for older children over 8.   Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Wendolyn was returned to rescue for being too playful with the home's elderly cat. His former home reports: "His favorite activities are chasing toys, especially a little mouse on a string, carrying his cat toys around the house, watching birds outside the window, meowing until he gets his dinner, laying on his back to show his tummy (and get a belly rub), and schmoozing with his favorite human. He is very oriented towards his chosen human and likes to be close and interact. He is very responsive when spoken to. He will talk a lot, purr and rub his head on his best human friend. He's good with other cats if they don't mind being playfully pounced and chased. Another young, playful cat who enjoys chasing and being chased might make a good roommate for him or he could be a single cat. He is an indoor cat and is completely happy being indoors only." We would love to see Wendolyn go to a home with another young, playful cat or no other cats.   He is up to date on shots, dewormed, is neutered, microchipped, and has tested negative for FeLV and FIV.
