As soon as he sees his human friends, Albert meows a greeting and rolls over to tempt belly pets. He'll rub up against your legs and head butt your hand to get scritches around his cheeks and ears. He is a total sweetheart.  Albert was found struggling on the abandoned on the streets of Baltimore. We trapped him and found that he was definitely not feral. He's been vetted and is ready to find his forever home! He gets along with most cats, but definitely prefers human affection. Albert has been ASHA's ambassador kitty at the B&O Railroad Museum's Farmer's Market in Baltimore. Check out ASHA's FB and IG for videos of him loving the attention. Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! The first step in the adoption process is the adoption application which is located on our website rescueandadopt.org/adopt.  Our website includes a lot of info, including a FAQ page with lots of answers. Once your application is reviewed we will contact you to schedule the home check video chat to ensure that you have all the basic supplies set up in an isolation/ introduction room and there are no health hazards to the cat in your home. We can also help answer any additional questions you may have at this time. Next is the meet and greet with you and the adoptable kitty you're interested in. We are a foster system so we do not have a facility. Visits to meet an adoptable animal at a foster family is by appointment only. In the rare case that you decide your initial kitty isn't the right fit, we can introduce you to our many other types of cats to find the right fit. Once you have settled on your new furry family member, the next step is to complete and sign the online adoption contract to finalize the adoption. Adoption Fees: $150 for kittens under a year old and $100 for cats over a year old.  We do offer a 15% discount for adopting 2 ADULT cats at once.   show less

Rescued off the streets of Bowie with his siblings at around 10 weeks old, he took some time to learn to trust people. He was adopted as a kitten but after 4 years the family realized they couldn't keep him due to their daughter's increasing allergies. Ben is a bit shy but definitely loves attention, is super sweet and loves respectful playtime. He definitely needs a kitty sibling. He's ok with other cats, dogs and kids.  Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Daddy Ox originally lived on a farm but was a little too social to be an outdoor-only kitty.  So he came to ASHA in search of a new home.  At ASHA, Daddy Ox met Mama Kyi, and the two cats took a liking to each other.  Daddy Ox and Mama Kyi are now fostered together and doing so well! After just 2 weeks in their new foster home, they are already feeling more confident and comfortable. Daddy Ox is still more shy than Mama Kyi and looks to her for guidance. Their foster Mom hears them playing all night and awakes to their toys scattered everywhere. They are affectionate with people on their own terms right now -- they will rub on their foster Mom's legs at feeding time, but are still wary of petting. Mama Kyi will sometimes let her foster Mom rub her belly. We are confident these young cats will continue to blossom in the right home.  A quiet, adults-only home would be best!  NO kids under age 15 please.      If you are looking for two beautiful, amazing cats who really deserve a chance at forever, please consider putting in an application.   Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Damion was rescued from a home where the owner had passed away and family did not want to take on the responisbillities of the cats. He was essentially a feral, stayed outside and was not friendly at all. After ASHA invested lots of love and care, Damion is now great with dogs, kids and strangers - he would do ok with other cats too, but as FeLV positive he will need to be with ONLY other kitties that have tested positive for FeLV too. He has NO symptoms and is a roburst and healthy boy. Up to date on vaccines, neutered, dewormed, microchipped and has tested negative for FIV and POSITIVE for FeLV.   He has not shown any symptoms and is strong and healthy at this time - we expect him to live a long, happy life INSIDE.  Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Adopting Feral & Semi-Friendly Barn & Farm Cats - FREE All Natural Organic Pest Control! We work mostly with TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay and RELOCATE) of abandoned, stray and feral cats living in dangerous situations and locations. Living in sewers, on the streets, under bridges, in parking lots, beside highways and in non cat friendly neighborhoods are just some of the places we have rescued kitties from. We trap them using live traps or nets, and then get them much needed vetting - so no more kittens! When trapping cats we find that many times there are just one or two in the area, but most times there is a whole colony of 6-30 cats of various ages. For the kittens that are under about 6 months old we set them up indoors with a foster family, and work to socialize them to be placed in an indoor only forever home. For the older kitties that are set in their ways and not open to trusting people, they are placed at a barn foster until we find a forever farm for them to live out the rest of their days. Forever farms do not have any fees for adopting nor the adoption application. We require a minimum of 2 cats be relocated together. They may not be bonded, but this way they have a friend and companion that is also new to the area. We have many cats that are completely feral and will only been seen from afar once acclimated and released. But we also have many cats that are semi-friendly and are essentially just outdoor cats. When setting them up we provide a large cage to acclimate them to the area, as well as the initial necessary supplies: litter box, litter, food, bowls, bedding. After a minimum of 3-4 weeks in which they are acclimated the kitties can be released from the cages. We then will pick up the cage and any unused supplies you do not wish to keep. Cats are fully vetted, including: tested for FeLV, FIV, intestinal parasites, up to date on rabies and FVRCP, spayed/neutered and ear tipped. We can, upon request, microchip the cats. Most cats are FeLV and FIV negative, but we do have a few that are FIV positive and healthy, and still need forever homes too! FIV positive cats can successfully and safely live with other cats! Ask us for more info! These cats make wonderful rodent, bird, and pest control for farms, gardens, granaries, barns and any large properties including wineries, warehouses, dry docks, marinas, stables, nurseries, orchards, pet stores. Any place natural pest control is desired. We deliver!! Making it easy on you, we will come to you! Any location in MD, PA, VA, WV or surrounding areas. The farther from BWI area, the more cats we would prefer to place, as it's more gas mileage and time for our non-paid volunteers. Please consider giving a second chance to a kitty that doesn't deserve to live day by day scavenging for scraps and being hunted by nasty people looking to torture them for the fun of it. Many stray, abandoned, and feral cats are used for dog fighting bait so saving 2 today gives us the room to pull 2 more off the streets! Email us for more info! ASAHAmaryland@gmail.com or find us online at rescueandadopt.org We constantly have cats in need of barns, farms, wooded areas, warehouses, wineries, breweries, churches... wherever they may be welcomed, cared for, and safe. So the picture posted here is llikely not the kitty we have currently available. But we can send you pictures!  show less

** Winston is a work-in-progress kitten who will need a patient adopter to help him become his best kitty self!**  Winston came to rescue with his Momma cat and 2 siblings after being found living outside. Winston was not socialized at an early age, so he is still learning how to trust humans.  Winston will need a patient adopter who will go slow with him and allow him to come around at his own pace.   Winston is VERY playful and rambunctious. He loves playing with his cage mates Alistair and Allison but they do not need to go home together.  Winston gets along with other cats after a proper introduction, and would probably make a good playmate for another kitten or young cat!   Interested in adopting one of our kitties?! Nelly was brought in to rescue after we recieved reports that her former care taker was no longer taking care of her. They were tired of her comming around to their porch so they kept a small leaf blower by the door and would turn it on to scare her away any time she came by looking for attention or food. She has lived outside most of her life dodging cars and rats on the streets of Baltimore. But now that shes indoors with us she loves it and is getting along great with being spoiled. She is very affectionate! She will do great in just about any home and would even do great with kids. She is not a huge fan of dogs but could possibly do okay with a calm cat-friendly dog. In foster she has show some hissing and light aggression twords other cats - she would much prefer to be an only kitty. Yaba is anxiously awaiting a forever home, after being returned by her previous adopter due to no fault of her own. Unfortunately, Yaba had gotten sick with upper respiratory issues and her adopter could not afford a vet bill, so Yaba was surrendered back to ASHA. Yaba is super friendly and extremely affectionate! She loves her food and treats. Not only does Yaba enjoy cuddling and showing affection but she also loves playing with toys. Yaba truly is the best of both worlds…. Fun and lovey! She will do great in just about any home and would even do great with kids. She is not a huge fan of dogs but could possibly do okay with a calm cat-friendly dog. Yaba was previously in a home with another cat but did show some aggression from time to time according to the previous adopter. Yomi is a Male Neutered Adult Great Pyrenees If you have any questions about Yomi, please email us at ashamaryland@gmail.com Adoption Fee: $250 *Please read this entire post before applying. Those that do not meet all requirements will not be considered.* Yomi is a handsome, 3 year old Great Pyrenees who was originally purchased by a family as a puppy via Craigslist from a backyard breeder. He came in to rescue in the bribing of January 2022 at 80lbs, and the veterinarian immediately said that he needed to gain a minimum of 20 to 50 lb as well as be given frequent exercise to build muscle. By February 7th 2022 he weighed 90 lbs and is still gaining. At first when we got Yomi in he was unable to walk up and down stairs due to severe muscle loss on his back end. The family that owned him for the last 3 years we believe did not give him proper exercise and we believe he was confined most of the time. Yomi is a typical Great Pyrenees that loves being outside no matter the weather. He enjoys long hikes, car rides, meeting new people and playing in the water. Now that his energy level is finally coming back he has shown that he loves to run and play. He wants to be your best friend however it's going to take a very special someone to give him what he needs to grow and be the best version of him that he can be. Being a big breed, any potential adopter needs to fully understand and have experience handling and working with GP dogs. He loves to just hang out with you on the couch or hike all day long. He wants to be with you as much as he is allowed. That includes bedtime! Yomi absolutely loves hiking, running around the yard, or meeting new people. Overall and in general he is great with kids, cats, dogs and farm animals. He needs a strong-willed person that will be able to address behavioral issues; he has resource aggression with his space and his food. However, Yomi is not food motivated, he could take it or leave it most days. Also, he is a total gentleman taking treats from your hand or eating food off a spoon. You can easily feed him treats, canned food or dry food by hand or even out of the bowl or out of the can with no issues but as soon as a bowl or treat puzzle is placed on the ground Yomi resource guards it from people and pets. Yomi hates being confined. He loves going for car rides but wants to be in the car with you, not stuck in a cage or at the back end of the van (yes you will need a big enough car to fit him!). At his foster we are currently using a large 6 by 8 ft pen which fits him well but still creates resource guarding and aggression. He does well with other dogs as long as they are smaller and extremely friendly. Eventually he might do better with larger dogs or at least medium-sized dogs but at this time he physically can not keep up with them when they bump into him for play. It literally knocks him over, so he gets very frustrated very quickly and will snap at the other dog. If they are not super playful and energetic then they would get along fine at any size. It’s so sad to see him so easily get knocked over by a dog half this size with twice his muscle. Yomi's adoption donation is $250. Yomi is up to date on vaccines, neutered, tested HW negative and microchipped. Please only apply IF you meet all of the requirements below: Physically fenced in yard on all sides. Not an electric fence, a physical fence that is at least 5 feet tall. Minimum of a 2 acre single family home/yard as he needs lots of room. Live within 2ish hrs of BWI. We will require you to pick up and personally transport Yomi from his foster upon adoption. Previous Great Pyrenees owner experience. Preference to adopter with no other dogs but would consider adopting to someone that has 2 or less other dogs that are friendly yet tolerant (must be spayed/neutered and current on vaccines). He is currently fostered with other dogs and does well with those that are friendly and passive. No children under the age of 15 years old. He's great with children of all ages but because of his resource guarding and size it could quickly turn from a sweet moment to an unfortunate accident. Post adoption: Continue training with Yomi in regular positive reinforcement training at Canines At Training in Reisterstown for at least 1 year directly after adoption. Because one of the worst ways that an adopter can fail a pet is by not giving them proper manners and training. We want Yomi to learn to be his best self and an ambassador for the breed. Training also ensures the pet parent is educated to the dog's needs and the best practices of how to ensure his training continues after the class has ended. We've already started with behavioral consult and training advice to minimize and hopefully eliminate his resource and food aggression. We have come a very long way and he's been doing very well but it's something that he could quickly relapses on if proper training techniques are not followed in his new home. Do not attend dog parks. They are notorious for being unsafe and it's not worth the potential risk. Do not use open play doggie camps/boarding. Day camps and boarding facilities that allow a large number of dogs to have group play all together are very dangerous, and again not worth the risk. One on one or small group play allows the camp staff to safely monitor and control the interactions and play. His foster is actually open to pet sitting and boarding him for potential adopters if needed down the line. eNow, if you are still interested in adding this amazing boy to your family and fit ALL the criteria listed above (yes, we know, it’s a lot) please visit Rescueandadopt.org to learn about our full adoption process and then complete an adoption application today! *Heads up, Yomi is being fostered in Elkridge, MD. An additional in person meet and greet with any resident animals and potential adopters is required prior to final approval. If you do get approved and do schedule a meet-and-greet with Yomi be prepared to spend several hours with him. We will want the approved potential adopters to have plenty of time to interact with him in various settings at the meet-and-greet. Pets are not presents. We do not accept any applications that are looking to give or gift the animal to a family member or significant other; members of the family must be aware of the potential adoption. Remember, we are a volunteer foster system with families and jobs of our own, please do not message us regarding application status. We will update all listings when pending adoption to an approved family. Rescueandadopt.org show less
