Rescue/Shelter Description

Rescue City is a professional, foster based dog rescue based in Brooklyn, New York. We conduct lifesaving rescue transports from open intake shelters that are unable to save a high percentage of animals. Thanks to our efforts, hundreds of dogs are saved every year. As a registered 501c3 non-profit1, we mostly rely on tax deductible donations to fund our lifesaving transport operations, veterinary costs, and support of our fosters. Every dog we care for is fully vetted and altered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption. We are proud that our organization rescues dogs of every breed, size, age, temperament, and medical condition. Rescue City is tremendously appreciative of our community of loving fosters, dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and devoted adopters who help us do our incredibly important work. Our commitment to our dogs goes beyond the adoption process. Through our exceptional education and ongoing support network, we believe that, together we can positively change the face of dog ownership and empower a community of guardians. #ItTakesACity #RescueCity

Big Apollo is looking for his second chance at love. He first came into our care as a tiny puppy, and is now back in need of a forever home at 2 Years Old. We hope we can count on our community to spread the word, and share this young black Pit Bull's story far and wide to help us find his perfect match, his forever family. 2 year Old Big Apollo is a silly and snuggly and such a beautiful dog. He loves very hard. He wants to be around his humans. He loves being outside and being silly. He is well-trained to go to his place and leave you alone when you need it, but he would rather be nearby for snuggles. He also loves to play, and once a day, he gets in his wiggly "play time" mood and starts to bring you toys. A quick session of tug or chase usually gets it out of his system. He's got medium energy and loves other dogs! Apollo has been around children his whole life, including a baby that's almost 1. He's also been around toddlers and older kids and does well once comfortable with them! The one thing Apollo is working on is being comfortable with new people entering his home.  What makes Apollo stand out from the rest? His zest for life is infectious, and he'll motivate you to embrace each moment with enthusiasm and gratitude! Apollo is highly trained and intelligent - he is the epitome of what makes these dogs so extraordinary. Apollo would thrive in a forever home with a confident leader who will build a trusting relationship with him, and in return, he'll be the most incredible adventure buddy and companion! A board and train program professionally trained Big Apollo -- so he's fully recall trained, e-collar trained, leash trained and knows numerous commands. He LOVES to work and perform! He would thrive in a home that does not have a high level of new human activity, as that brings him social anxiety. Homes with lots of visitors, parties, children, etc, are unsuitable for Big Apollo.   Big Apollo's soul radiates a desire to give and receive affection. He yearns for a family who will recognize his loving nature and embrace him for who he truly is—a loyal and devoted companion, ready to shower them with unwavering devotion! If you're looking to add a truly extraordinary companion to your life, please don't overlook this black Pit Bull's shining potential.  Apply to foster to adopt Apollo, at rescuecity.nyc/adopt or email foster@rescuecity.nyc with any questions. Apollo is looking for a foster to adopt home as soon as possible! If you can welcome him into your home and are looking for the most loving companion, apply at rescuecity.nyc/adopt or email foster@rescuecity.nyc with any questions. show less

We are pleased to introduce you to Harley. Cleverly disguised as a potato, Harley is an 18lb Chihuahua Mix, who’s working hard to achieve a hleatheir body. In the home he’s got low to moderate energy, he 100% loves a solid nap, but equally gets happy to go on a nice walk. He’s super sweet and loves cuddles and attention, though it does take him a bit of time to open up to new people. He’s fostered with other dogs he gets along great with, and has been around cats. He definitely has some quirks and dislikes (like being bothered in his sleep - we get it), but is quick to let you know if he doesn’t like something - but the truth is that overall he’s a very sweet and affectionate dude who his foster mom says would make an amazing companion.  Harley is doing pretty well and coming along at his own pace. He's made milestones such as playing with toys and sharing them with other dogs, which he was not interested in doing before. He loves his cuddling and isn't shy in letting you know that he wants to be held and spend time with you. His foster mom shares "He's trusting me more and more and honestly it's those little moments that make my heart melt" - He''s a great companion to run errands with.  A lot of our bonding takes place outdoors." For a little guy, Harley has a big personality! And though it takes him a little bit of extra time to let his sweetness come out, earning his trust is well worth it! Harley will thrive in a calm, low energy and patient forever home with owners who will give him the time he needs to warm up  to them!  **WAIVED ADOPTION FEE! JOHN JOHN is waiting patiently for months and months, to be someone’s forever companion .This stunning German Shepherd Dog  was found as a stray and brought into the @nycacc where we rushed to get him out of the shelter. Now he has spent months in a foster home — patiently waiting to find a forever family of his own. John John is a velcro, loving, gentle and affectionate dog. He enjoys playing tug of war, fetch, loves his crate, is housebroken and is an excellent cuddler. He loves to act like a lap dog even though he’s 75 pounds. He is so loyal, bonds to people like glue and will go to the end of the world and back for his humans — his only vice is that he does not get along with other dogs. He is currently fostered in Connecticut, and loves having so much space to explore — he would absolutely thrive in any suburban environment and he is EXCELLENT WITH CHILDREN, making lots of friends with neighbors including a two year girl he’s extra gentle with! John John is about 8 years old. He is neutered and completed a dental in our care. He will fit perfectly into any home as long as there are no other dogs or cats in the household, and he would love a home that will take him on long walks around the neighborhood and spend ample time cuddling inside.  His foster mom writes “John John is still as sweet as ever and a giant puppy.  He still loves attention and very vocal about it.  When he's happy or content, he'll let you know by making all sorts of noises almost akin to purring.  He loves being close to people and loves being physically touched, getting pets, doggy massages and belly rubs.  He especially loves being brushed and laying on his side and being pampered.  “ Apply to adopt John John at rescuecity.nyc/adopt. His adoption radius is beyond our usual NYC and surrounding states, but his potential adopters must come to New York for a meet and greet greet.  We just know the perfect home is out there waiting for him too. — Not looking to adopt at this time? Kilo is a gorgeous 2.5 Year Old; 116lb Cane Corso. Kilo is smart, driven, and eager to please. He loves toys, stuffed Kongs, being close to his humans, and he LOVES interacting with dogs of all sizes. He’s also fully crate and house trained and is an incredible companion to have by your side! Kilo needs a Mastiff or a Guardian breed savvy adopter who will give him the time, structure, and guidance he needs to thrive. @dreamcometruek9 took Kilo under their wing and he’s been in their board and train program with Blake in Florida (what a vaca huh 😅) for the last 4 weeks. Blake shares that Kilo is “Absolutely fu**ing awesome” and has been a joy to train and work with. He’s been spending his time soaking in the sun, going on bike runs and has been around young children, other dogs and new people. (While in NYC he was also a star at doggy daycare)  What’s Kilo looking for? A forever home with someone eager and willing to invest in building a relationship and taking the time to learn how to provide for him. Someone that has time to do things with him outside of just just walking him or letting him out in the yard. His trainer says “Get a human that can provide structure, boundaries and fair exposure and there should be no issues.” KILO’S SEARCH FOR A FOSTER OR ADOPTER IS URGENT, as he has two more weeks to go in training, and having nowhere to go once that is complete will only set him back. For Kilo, we are prioritizing applicants with Breed experience and training experience.  Kilo is neutered and up to date on vaccines, and is truly one of the exceptional dogs we’ve ever met. His forever family will feel lucky day in and day out to have such an incredible companion by their side.  More videos of Kilo can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ctg8UjGroiz/ To apply to adopt and meet Kilo, please submit an application at rescuecity.nyc/adopt. Please email adoptions@rescuecity.nyc with any questions - or foster@rescuecity.nyc. Please help us network and share this very deserving dog. ⠀⠀⠀ show less

Meet Latte, who was born in our care almost 3 years ago and adopted to a family at just 9 weeks to be raised, loved, trained, exercised and socialized. Unfortunately,  Latte was returned to us at 2.5 years old,  unsocialized, untrained and unexercized. Latte had no idea how to be a dog, she was scared of her own shadow. We immediately sent Latte to our board and train program at TCDT to speedily help her become the best dog that she can be. So young, so driven and her whole life ahead of her. We HAD TO help her. Latte has been professionally trained for a few months now and is ready to meet her real forever family  This medium sized, medium-energy sweetheart possesses a heart filled with love and affection waiting to be unleashed! Despite the challenges she has faced, she remains resilient and demonstrates unwavering loyalty. Latte is a pint-sized Labrador Mix who thrives on love and craves the companionship of a patient and understanding soul who can provide the safe haven she deserves. Latte will thrive in a home with someone who has experience with dogs who need a little extra help getting comfortable. Patience, consistency, and training will be key in building her trust and confidence -- Latte would prefer a calm and peaceful household without young children or high-energy pets. Witnessing her journey from fear to trust and seeing her blossom into the loving companion she's destined to be will bring immense fulfillment to Latte's potential family. In return, she will shower you with unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and moments of pure happiness.  We are hoping to find a family in the following areas so that Latte can continue training with True Companion Dog Training which is already convered by us for her potential family: Calicoon NY, Bethel NY, Lake Ariel PA, Waymart PA, Equinunk PA, Duck Pond Harbor PA Are you the special person who can provide Latte with the loving and confident home she deserves? Join us in offering her a second chance at a beautiful life. show less

Meet 7-Year-Old loyal and curious cutie, Marissa! Mari is the most loyal of pups! She is incredibly responsive to her people and always wants to be in sync with them. Her foster mom shares "My favorite quirk is her "walking stretches". When she is ready to go outside, she will do the cutest stretches with each of her four legs. I love that she's in tune with her body. She also often does the play position when she's ready to go out. When I come home from being out, she always gets so excited but calms down instantly when I pick her up and walk around or spend some time looking out the window :) She loves being carried, either in your arms or in a bag. She's learned that her crate is her safe space and that's where she's immune to the toy grab!" When Marissa first arrived into our care, she was overweight and had some join pain but she can now jump on the couch and runs in the park when she gets excited. She was also not very interested in other dogs early on - now she loves saying hi to her neighborhood doggo friends, and gets very excited about the shiba inus and male puppies she sees in the neighborhood. Mari is pretty dynamic. She's very chill at home unless she knows it's time for a walk/potty. She LOVES getting belly rubs and bonding through that. She typically likes to cuddle for a few minutes and then will go over and find her own space either on the couch or bed. She is very responsive, so if you are high energy or engaging her in that way, she can match it. If you're looking for a little shasow - she's overall very sweet and loyal, she likes knowing what you are up to and being around others! Hr ideal forever home has people who give her plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors, be social, have plenty of space indoor or outdoors to relax throughout the day, and give her all the belly rubs! She would also do  well with a partner dog to keep her company when the humans are away!  show less

I'm Sofie, I'm 8 Years Old, 60lbs and I'm looking for a forever home! I'd say I'm calm, sweet, and independent. I might take a little time to warm up to you and my surroundings, but once I do, you'll see how rewarding it is to have me around. I absolutely adore gazing out the window when I'm home, when I'm not enjoying the view, I love going on long walks in the neighborhood. I can keep up on hour-long walks, and I could even be your adventure buddy on hikes or any outdoor activities. At home, I'm super calm and enjoy lounging on the couch. However, I can switch gears and be active when it's time for walks or adventures. I'm pretty adaptable that way! I'm a very sweet and loving girl. I might be a bit reserved at first, but every day, I'll show you a little more trust and affection. When I want your attention or some belly rubs, I'll gently place my paw on you, and sometimes, I'll give a little howl to let you know what I want. I'm also quite vocal when I'm excited or ready to play. I'm generally friendly and curious when meeting other dogs. I'd thrive in a home where I can have a balance of activity and relaxation. I'm not a clingy dog, but I love being near my humans. So, if you're looking for a furry companion who's affectionate in her own way, I might be the perfect fit.   I'm still learning manners and commands, but I'm a smart and independent gal who's up for the challenge. Using plain boiled chicken as a treat has been quite helpful in my training journey. I'm fully house-trained and crate-trained, although I'd prefer to be outside of the crate. Loud noises, cars, bikes, skateboards – they don't faze me at all. I'm also not too bothered by squirrels and birds, except for the occasional bird-chasing urge. If you're looking for a loyal, sweet, and adaptable companion who's ready to be your adventure buddy or your couch potato partner, consider making me a part of your family. I promise to bring a little howl of joy to your life! show less
