Our individual budgies can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/PEARLbudgies   We have many budgies available! We have a wide range of ages, and both sexes. We are currently offering a "Budgie Bundle," where you can adopt a budgie pair (your choice, or ask us to help choose!) with a fully outfitted cage (cage*, perches, toys, bowls), a travel cage, food samples, bird-safe disinfectant, a sprouting jar, and a guidebook with a quick overview of budgie care**! We are currently offering this bundle for $200. Otherwise, budgie adoptions "cost" any donation amount of your choice. *= specific cage will vary depending on availability, but will likely be no smaller than a 30inx20in footprint **= To view this free guide and get a feel for our standards of care, click here: https://tinyurl.com/PEARLbudgieGuide   Budgies are fun, curious, and cautiously bold creatures. Their intelligence really shines when they’re given lots of space and enrichment, and you earn their trust in an environment where they feel safe. Most PEARL budgies are housed in a walk-in aviary as a flock, which lets them get the most exercise, socialization, and enrichment possible, though it might make them seem a little bit shy once they’re asked to re-adjust to a traditional setup. A little love and attention will bring them back out of their shell!   We prefer to adopt out in same-sex pairs to prevent our adopters from needing to navigate breeding problems   Please be aware, no parrot is cheap, not even the little ones. Obtaining the bird itself is always the cheapest part of bird ownership. Avian vets can cost hundreds of dollars, even for basic check-ups, and emergencies are more. High quality food and toys aren’t cheap, and proving daily fresh food and enrichment is a task where many people underestimate the time, cost, and effort needed. All parrots scream, destroy, and bite, and can be a poor choice with small children and very excitable or prey-driven pets.   This is a general "We have Budgies!" listing, so we can consolidate our links and resources for them, and allow them to be found on petfinder, applied for, linked to, etc... without all two dozen (or so, on average) flooding the page and reducing the visibility of our individual parrots ;)   Our individual budgies can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/PEARLbudgies   Although our budgies are listed individually at that link (for best visibility and adoptability), we will not adopt out a budgie as a solo pet. Budgies are social animals that thrive with at least one friend of their own kind. All PEARL budgies must either be adopted with a friend (your choice, or ask us for our recommendation) or adopted into a home that already has at least one budgie.   Our budgies are held to the same standards of care as our larger parrots– this means fresh foods as their main diet, high quality pellets, limited dry seed and treats, plenty of space, daily time out of the cage and human interaction, preventing breeding, and lots of enrichment. Shredding toys with balsa wood, cork, yucca, grapevine, coconut fiber, and sisal/seagrass are always a hit with the budgies! We reccomend the brands Feathered Addictions and Planet Pleasures, especially.   By adopting from PEARL, you agree to not breed these animals, to uphold our standard of care, and to return the animals to PEARL if your ability to care for them changes in the future.   Parrot Education and Rehoming League (PEARL) is an all-volunteer and foster-based organization. This means that we have no central "shelter," rather, our birds are located all across the Pittsburgh, PA area. Most of our budgies are fostered in a walk-in aviary in Beechview.    Our adoption process consists of: 1) Submitting an application Click here: https://tinyurl.com/PEARLadoptionApplication or the "Start your Inquiry" button on this page You can leave your pet of interest blank (the application will ask you for your species of interest), or apply for the "Budgie Adoptions!" listing 2) Attending our Standards of Care Class Class is once a month, currently VIA Zoom. Check out our Facebook to see if we've posted the next class: https://www.facebook.com/PEARLParrots/events You do not need an application submitted (or even interest in adopting!) to attend class. It is available to all, with a ticket fee of $10 that is a direct donation to PEARL 3) A Home Visit We will arrange this when we reach out VIA your adoption application. We are currently doing some VIA Zoom and some in-person, depending on situation.    For more information about our classes and adoption process, please visit our website at: www.pearlparrots.com Our contact for Budgies, specifically, is Katherine at katherine@pearlparrots.com. Ollie and Scruffy are Goffin's Cockatoos who are the best of friends looking for a new forever home.  Ollie loves to play. He has a plastic ball toy in the cage that he likes to pull back let it go and let it swing and hit the side of the cage. That little trick is almost always accompanied by a happy chirp and wing stretches. He is developing a real talent in shredding and pulling apart his big hemp rope. Ollie is a real glutton for a banana piece and blueberries. He likes to peel the banana and take his time nibbling away.  The pair are still a litte nervous of humans and theiir foster mom continues to work on building a trusting relationship with the cockatoo pair through positive training techniques which is especially rewarding to a parrot 's intellect. Ollie is getting braver about coming closer and will sit eating the banana while his foster mom sits next to the cage. We are getting ready to work on stepping up to the human hand.  Scruffy is Ollie’s braver brother. He loves to shred his shreddable toys. His greatest delight is to rip pages out of the phone books that hang in the cage accompanied by a happy toot and wing flaps when he has a pile of pages down in the bottom. Scruffy enjoys his supervised out of cage time and likes to run around on the top of the cage. He's learned to come out of their cage to sit on the nearby parrot tree where he enjoys a healthy Nutriberry treat for which he's developed a real taste! He is teaching Ollie to be brave and leave the cage for treats.  Both Ollie and Scruffy have a real delight in music and bob along when a favorite tune comes on. They are still a litte nervous of humans and theiir foster mom continues to work on building a trusting relationship with the cockatoo pair through positive training techniques which is especially rewarding to a parrot 's intellect. Next we will be working on accepting treats from the teacher and stepping up to a human hand. We removed this pair along with 3 other parrots from a very sad situation. PEARL's rescue team was contacted to help and found them living in horrid conditions. Ollie was living ontop of Scruffy's cage and after several weeks of quarantining in separate cages pending vet clearance, the two did not appear to be bonded to each other. After moving them into separate foster homes, they both told us otherwise! They have since been reunited and couldn't be happier to be back together. Ollie and Scruffy will need to be adopted together and stay together. They are definitely not happy when they are apart and aren't afraid to tell you about it!  You can learn more about Scruffy by visiting his PEARL bio page. These beautfiul cockatoos will need a patient home that is willing to give them the space and life they so deserve. The recommended habitat for a Goffin's cockatoo pair is a cage with plenty of room to move around and stretch their wings. Ollie and Scruffy have appropriate accomodations in their foster home, currently sharing an 80"x40"x80" cage with a variety of perching and fun toys to challenge their intellect plus supervised out of cage time to explore. Keep in mind that in general, cockatoos can be loud, and their vocalizations mainly occur in the morning and evening. It is normal for parrots to call out to their flock mates first thing in the morning and at the end of the day.    *********************************************************************************************************************** Ollie and Scuffy are available for adoption! Fish is a wild caught Salmon Crested Moluccan Cockatoo. We don’t know much about Fish’s long term history other than he was wild caught meaning he is at least 30 years old. His recent history however is a sad story. We rescued him along with 4 other birds from unbelievably dirty conditions with cages that were too small and some even had the doors rusted shut. The room was dark with blankets nailed over the window, feces filled cages, and some of the worse conditions we have ever encountered.  So Fish’s recent experiences with humans are not happy ones and as a result he is very fearful of human interactions. His foster home is giving him tons of love and attention and he is slowly starting to overcome some of those fears. In the short time he has been with us he has made extraordinary progress and know the best is to come!  Despite his fear, he is a very good bird. So far he isn’t very loud and rarely makes any noise at all. When he does squawk they are unique wild caught sounds usually accompanied with drumming of the feet and lots of wing flapping. The Disney movie Encanto seems to bring this out every time. He loves to shred paper and playing with toys. His favorite toy is a red squeaky ball that he loves to carry around the cage bottom. Unlike many cockatoos, Fish is food motivated and loves peanuts which we are using to train him.  In the rare nice days we had in early March Fish took his first steps outside into our aviary. It was so exciting to see him experience the sun and breeze for the first time in many many years.  The ideal adopter for Fish is someone who is willing to give him lots of love, attention, and a large (80x40 or greater) cage, or walk-in aviary. Fish may never be a cuddly bird, it is just to early to tell, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make a fantastic companion bird. He is playful, energetic and a joy to watch. show less

Say hello to Baby! She is a hilarious, sweet and outgoing female Goffin's Cockatoo believed to be roughly 30 years old. Baby is active, smart, and so fun! She is a sociable and easygoing bird who loves people! Baby Likes: Veggies, stepping up, head scratches, and her  healthy diet of: pellets, fresh fruits, and a small number of nuts and seeds Baby LOVES: Cashews (unsalted, of course!), dancing, supervised out of cage time, and getting all of the attention Baby Dislikes: Flying (probably from an old injury to her wing).  She can get lift but hasn't taken to flying during out of cage time in her foster home. Baby is a lovely parrot who is looking to find her new forever home! Could that be with you?  Goffin's cockatoos. like all parrots, should have a cage where they have lots of room to explore, play and stretch their wings. PEARL recommends that Baby would especially enjoy a 64" wide x 32" deep cage though a 40" x 30" cage is the minimum required.  Along with the cage, Baby will need a variety of perching and toys to keep her busy.  She really likes wooden toys that she can shred.  Keep in mind that in general, cockatoos can be loud, and their vocalizations mainly occur in the morning and evening. Hello my name is Goldie and I have a nickname I like too...Wanda.  I am a Green Cheek Conure and am 11 years old. I eat a great diet of veggies and Harrisons pellets. But, my favorite treats are sunflower seeds! I love attention and learning new behaviors, but I am not really comfortable stepping up on to hands right now.  I originally came from a bad situation where there were too many birds. I was adopted from PEARL by a very nice lady, but her situation changed and she made the hard decision to bring me back to PEARL.  I used to live with another Green Cheek Conure, so I would probably be happy living with another conure if we are introduced properly. But, I have been doing fine by myself as well.  ************************************************************************************************************************ Adoption Fee: $200.00 Age: 11 years Sex: Female ************************************************************************************************************************ PEARL Parrot Rescue is an all-volunteer and foster-based organization located in Pittsburgh, PA. Introducing Henrietta, affectionately called Henri! Like many Goffins cockatoos, this beautiful female is full of personality and enjoys being the center of attention. She is quite the entertainer often dancing along to the upbeat tempo of pop music or just clowning around.   Henrietta has an interesting background.  About 15 years ago, Henri’s most recent owner traded a horse to adopt her from a previous owner.  (Note that PEARL is unable to accept the trade of a horse for the adoption of this fun loving girl to her new forever home. 😉)  For many years at the ranch, much of Henri’s time was spent out of the cage during the day enjoying ranch adventures then snuggles from her favorite adult human in the evening before bedtime in her cage. Henri co-existed well with the family and all of the pets at the ranch until the last couple of years when the dynamics changed for her and it became clear that she preferred the undivided attention of people without other pets around. Since the dogs and cats at a ranch are part of the operation and Henri was no longer getting along with the other animals, the owner sadly had to reduce Henri’s out of cage time more and more for the safety of all. Having Henri spend much of her time in the cage made both Henri and her human very sad. Her former owner loves her very much and wants Henri to live in a home where she can once again have not only quality care but also the attention and out of cage time she deserves – is that home with you?  In foster care, Henrietta enjoys lots of out of cage time supervised by her foster dad and lives in a 64” wide by 32” deep habitat with a variety of perching and plenty of toys to challenge her mind. Henri’s favorite food is fruit, offered in healthy moderation.  She also enjoys showers, and occasionally a bath. Her preferred mode of transport is climbing and walking. We are told that her wings were clipped while living at the ranch to minimize her flight for safety reasons, though she is capable of flight. New flight feathers are starting to replaced her clipped flight feathers. We believe that Henrietta would make a perfect feathered companion for a loving home with lots of attention to offer and without other pets or small children. Keep in mind that in general, cockatoos can be loud, and their vocalizations mainly occur in the morning and evening. It is normal for parrots to call out to their flock mates first thing in the morning and at the end of the day.    *********************************************************************************************************************** Age: 30+ Sex: Female Adoption Fee: $400.00 ************************************************************************************************************************ PEARL Parrot Rescue is an all-volunteer and foster-based organization located in Pittsburgh, PA. Kumquat is a small cockatiel with a BIG personality! She is about 4 years old and loves climbing everywhere! Her previous owner is struggling to give her the care she needs, and is moving somewhere she can't follow. She's a bird that's been deeply loved, but is in need of someone who can go the extra mile for her. She needs some socialization, lots of room to fly around, tons of paper to shred, and annual visits to an avian vet as is recommended by PEARL for all companion parrots.  She loves perching on top of people's heads, shoulders, and being involved in whatever they're doing! Please consider giving this cockatiel a home where she can thrive and be the best version of herself!  If you'd like to learn more about Kumquat, please submit an adoption application and attend the next Standards of Care Class after which one of PEARL's Adoption Counselors will be in touch.  Thank you for considering Kumquat as a fun new addition to your home. ************************************************************************************************************************ Kumquat is AVAILABLE for adoption! If a PEARL parrot is listed on Petfinder, it is available for adoption as update our records regularly. Larry is a real charmer! He is funny and active, and loves to chatter as he plays with his toys. He is an adult Swainson's Rainbow Lorikeet.  This species can have a lifespan of about 30 years. Larry's foster mom shared that he is quite a character. We do not believe he was ever out of his cage in his previous home…so he is very comfortable entertaining himself in and on top of his  cage that is an appropriate size to give him room to spread his wings and play with toys. Since his arrival, he has learned to have controlled flight and enjoys flying away and back to his cage daily when he is out. He has also become more hand tame and appreciates an occasional human assist moving from one plae to another during his out of cage tim.  He will step to the top of his foster mom's hand and walk up to her arm above the wrist so she can carry him to where he needs to go. One he sees were he wants to go, he would prefer to fly there from the hand. A lorikeet is a unique companion parrot that requires a specialized diet of soft pellets, nectar, fruit, flowers, berries, and only some vegetables that are low in iron.  Lorikeets eat soft foods in nature, and have delicate structures on their tongue that can be damaged by hard foods, like seed. They are also a type of parrot that is susceptible to iron storage disease-- which shouldn't be a problem, as long as you know what to feed him (and what not to feed him). Feel free to ask us about his diet! Apart from his dietary needs, he's just like any other parrot. In fact, if you think sun conures and caiques are adorable and funny, a lorikeet might be for you! Larry rolls in his big water dish, and hops up and down when he's waiting for you. He's very smart and attentive, and his foster thinks he'll be a real Rockstar with training, foraging, and exploring once he settles in a bit. You're going to want a rubber mat (or even a shower curtain or drop cloth) under his cage, since he loves to splash, and he gets messy with his food! It's all part of his energetic and busy charm, of course. And isn't he beautiful, too? He really does have it all, for the person who wants to welcome a more rare and unique species of parrot into their life. Larry is pretty new here, and is still adjusting to life in a new, big, busy cage outside of a nursing home, and a loving foster parent who wants to interact with him. He's working on some basics, like step-up and targeting, and needs someone like YOU to give him a fun life! ************************************************************************************************************************ Larry is AVAILABLE for adoption! Milton is a sweet, senstive boy who enjoys looking out the window, playing with toys and watching the Price is Right, but most of all, he enjoys being with his people. Milton is an approximately 26 year old, male Umbrella Cockatoo and was much loved by his owner who sadly passed away.  This sensitive soul wins the hearts of everyone he meets. Milton steps up very politely and is on a healthy diet of pellets and some vegetables. He also adores apples and pizza crusts!  Just because Milton is sweet, that doesn't mean that he's also not fun. He loves to "sing" and dance, with his favorite song rignt now being Flowers by Miley Cyrus. It's his jam.  Milton is used to being in a home where people are home most of the day.  He would not do well in a home where his owner worked away from home for long hours. Like any cockatoo, Milton can be loud but does not scream excessively.  He talks in a very sweet voice and likes to chuckle. Nigel is a sweet Amazon that likes interacting with people and really seems to enjoy an occaisional head scratch from his foster family.  This fun 23 year old orange-winged Amazon is assumed to be male.  He lived in the same loving home since being purchased as a newly weaned parrot.   Nigel has been in PEARL foster care since his passed away and he's ready to find his new loving forever home due to circumstance beyond his control. He was shy at first in his foster home and may be afraid of larger birds like large Cockatoos.  Once we shifted things around he seemed to blossom.  We know that he lived in the same room as  another medium sized parrot, a macaw, and a couple of dogs at his former home. Nigel is currently living in an Amazon-appropriate 40" wide x 30" deep cage with plenty of toys for enrichment and daily out of cage time.  A 40x30 is a minimum cage requirment for a PEARL parrot like Nigel though we're sure he'd enjoy the extra real estate afforded by a 64" wide x 32" deep cage. ************************************************************************************************************************ Nigel is AVAILABLE for adoption! If a PEARL parrot is listed on Petfinder, it is available for adoption as update our records regularly. Meet Simon!  This handsome Double-Yellow-Headed (DYH) Amazon parrot is assumed male.  We don't know Simon's age or much about his life before coming to PEARL.  His foster family reports that Simon is a typical of many DYH - independent, strong willed, and full of personality. As with any parrot, positive reinforcement training will be the key to building a trusting relationship with this beautiful bird.  Simon will need a cage that is appropriately sized for a large Amazon parrot with plenty of room to stretch his wings.  A 40" wide and 30" deep cage is the minimun cage requirement though we are sure he'd happily reside in a 64" wide x 32" deep cage if that were an option.  Simon will also require various perching options, a rotation of fun toys, parrot safe veggies and fruit, high quality pellets, treats and of course daily supervised out of cage time.   Do you live within 100 miles of Pittsburgh, PA and have a place in your heart and home to welcome Simon?  If so, please submit an adoption application, complete PEARL's Standards of Care class, then meet with our Adoption Counselors to learn if Simon would be a good match for you. ************************************************************************************************************************ Simon is AVAILABLE for adoption! If a PEARL parrot is listed on Petfinder, it is available for adoption as update our records regularly. Igor, Sunshine and Tweety Who wouldn't like to have a little sunshine on their shoulder? These three male cockatiels are a real team! Sunshine loves to have his head scratched and sit on your shoulder. He will go with you everywhere. Tweety and Igor sing duets together and all three love hanging out together, playing with their toys and sharing some snacks. They are very social and comfortable with their surroundings and spend the majority of the day outside of their cage. They never venture far from each other. If one gets into mischief, you can be sure the others will let you know! These three birds would be great for someone interested in learning about the different personalities of cockatiels. They are a fun and friendly group! These three buddies must be adopted and stay together in their new forever home. In a home environment, cockatiels should have a variety of perching options as well as a variety of toys to enourage natural behaviors like chewing and shredding to keep their minds engaged. These three especially enjoy their daily fresh vegetables and fruit with a healthy portion of seeds to supplement. They will require a cage that has plenty of space for each them to stretch their wings and have some personal space if they desire. Applications should work with their PEARL Adoption Counselor to identify appropriate caging prior to any adoption.  *************************************************************************************************** Igor, Sunshine and Tweety are AVAILABLE for adoption! If a PEARL parrot is listed on Petfinder, it is available for adoption as update our records regularly. Introducing Tiki!  This handsome 21 years young blue and gold macaw came into PEARL foster care the day after his owner passed away. We understand that Tiki was well loved by his human and lived in the same home since being purchased as a newly weaned parrot. Now Tiki is looking for a new loving forever home due to circumstance beyond his control. Tiki is assumed male. He shared his former home with his human, two medium sized parrots who lived in separate caging across the room, and a couple of dogs. Tiki seems to be adjusting well in foster care quickly adapting to his macaw-appropriate 64" wide x 32" deep x 70" tall habitat. He initially had his own room at his foster home, but the family observed that he really wants to be where the famly spends much of their time. His cage has been relocated to the main living area. Tiki transitioned quickly to PEARL's recommended healthy macaw diet within a day or two!  He is enjoying his quality pellets supplemented with plenty of parrot-safe veggies and fruit.  So far he really seems to enjoy broccoli, bell pepper, banana, & grapes.  His favorite treats are an occaisional walnut or almond - raw and in the shell.  This intelligent macaw is just getting started with target training and his foster mom hopes to extend that to travel carrier training. Stay tuned!     Soon after joining PEARL, Tiki began revealing his mimicked vocabulary. He typically responds with "what?" or "hello" when his foster mom calls out his name.  He occasionally offers a few colorful swear words which he must have been heard in response to certain scenarios in his former home.  His vocabulary is increasing and he more recently has started to mimick the names of the dogs that live in his foster home. His favorite enrichment activity is chewing up paper.  You may notice from his photos, that Tiki arrived missing some plumage.  Tiki has not demonstrated feather destructive behavior in the short time he has been with PEARL. We've worked with an avian veterinarian to rule out any health related causes and anticipate the feather issue is behavioral and possibly related to stressing event(s) in his past.  Only the time required of a full feather molt will tell if his chest feathers will grow back.  Thankfully his foster family has not observied feather pluck behavior.  Looking beyond some lacking feathers, this beautiful, intelligent parrot has quite a fun personality and would be a great addition to a loving home.   Could that home be with you? ************************************************************************************************************************ Tiki is AVAILABLE for adoption! If a PEARL parrot is listed on Petfinder, it is available for adoption as update our records regularly.
