Angel is a 4 year old, 36lb Doodle, and Holly is a 4 year old, 58lb Golden, who came to us from one of our first large groups of Amish puppy mill rescues back in December (Angel is a littermate to Madeline, who came to us pregnant!). They were petrified of all people, but our amazing volunteers have been working hard to make slow and steady progress introducing Angel and Holly to the world. We are seeking a foster home for Angel and Holly together, to help continue their progress. When they first moved to our GRRAND Central Station kennel, our volunteers would have to carry Angel out to the potty yard, and Holly would follow Angel. Angel is a little more outgoing than Holly at this point, but they now walk out to the yard on slip leads, and they are letting volunteers pet them and give them treats. Holly was even playing with a ball recently! They especially love being with other dogs (check out the recently posted video of them playing!). We can't wait to see how Angel and Holly's personalities blossom in a foster home! We believe they may need to be separated for adoption in the future, but for right now, we want to continue their stability by transitioning them to a home environment together. Angel and Holly are looking for a special foster home together with a family experienced in the socialization needs of puppy mill dogs. They will need a secure above-ground fenced-in yard and no children under the age of 16 in the house, as they are still considered flight risks. A stable, confident dog in the home will do wonders for helping their progress! We have no information on this time about cats. Their foster home will need to have the time and patience to continue showing them how amazing a family and a home are, but the reward in the end is so worth the time. If you are interested in meeting this beautiful pair, please complete a foster application: grrand.org/foster-a-golden-retriever-with-grrand/ GRRAND dogs are looking for foster and forever homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, and Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. Athena is a beautiful, we believe about 2 years old, Great Pyrenees who was turned in by her owner with her 12 six week old puppies earlier in August. When our team picked her and the pups up they were living in a barn, and all were covered in feces, but they are all now looking forward to their new fun filled and loving forever families! We knew something was not "right" with Athena, so after some vet visits and lots of opinions and discussions, we are so sad to report that Athena is now in hospice care with GRRAND. She has a fast-growing cancer and likely has 4 to 8 months to live. Neither surgery nor medication can save her sweet life. Her bones are easily breakable so she required a foster hospice home where her pain can be managed. Athena will need rest, nourishment, and controlled immobility to keep her brittle bones from breaking. GRRAND is honored to make Athena’s last months as good and comfortable as possible, as she was such a good momma to all of her babies and she deserves the same. With the medical intervention for pain and the most loving foster home around, we know for certain that when her "time comes", she will have known what that warm feeling of true love is all about. For that we are grateful to her foster family and all who have shown her real love and a gentle human touch. We will incur expenses while she is in hospice care and if you want to be a part of making Athena’s last days the best of her life, PLEASE make a donation on the GRRAND donation page. We thank you greatly.   show less

Bailey is a 5 year old, on the smaller side (about 70ish lbs) Labradoodle...  his mom was a Labradoodle and his dad was a doodle mix, and this guy was the only one who looked like a Golden! Bailey is looking for a new home, at no fault of his own, as his mom has some significant health issues which are not good for her or Bailey, so sadly they had to move and he needs a new forever family.  We are told Bailey has a calm demeanor and is very sweet and attentive with his owner's 10 year old granddaughter. He shows off his skill set of sit, sit pretty (front paws in the air), rollover etc. They say he could probably lose about 5 lbs, and hopefully with some consistent exercise, this will happen easily for Bailey. His top coat is shorter on the body area (more doodle-ish) but the typical longer length on the underside. He loves attention and is a sweet faced dog with beautiful eyes! His family feels he would do best as an “only” dog as he loves to be the center of attention and they say he can "be a bit territorial with other dogs in his space". Bailey has been recently moved to this “suburban” location from his farm land, and he is slowly adjusting to constant traffic, people walking by and delivery trucks. He has never been walked on a leash while on the acreage and was used to an invisible fence system at her family's old property, so he will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard or a home with a professionally installed invisible fence system. He returns easily with his name called whether indoors or out in the fenced yard. As he has ever been walked on leash at his home, he will need training with leash manners. This boy does not like the darkness of nighttime and unless he really has to go potty before bedtime, he will not venture outside. He also will gladly go into his crate with the phrase “Cage Bailey ” which is what they used to bring him to this new location since he would not get into the car on a leash and his crate is being offered to this new family.  Bailey is "free-fed" throughout the day and his bowl is picked up every evening before bed. He does have some anxiety to unexpected and loud noises but calms down with petting and reassurance. He brings toys back to you but doesn’t like tug of war play at all. Bailey loves water and has been known to jump into a pool or 2! When his mom would go to work, he was crated and she also would gate him into an area of the house as well, but he has not needed a crate in a while.  Bailey has a great temperament and is looking for the right family to have the time and patience to help him through his adjustments... he has been through a lot already, so another new place will be more for this boy to go through. His current family is home most of the time, so he is not left home by himself very often. If you feel you would like to be Bailey's forever family and help him with this next phase of his life, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   show less

Bear and Lucy are a bonded pair of littermates that are about 3 years old (Bear is about 95lbs and Lucy 75lbs), that were turned into GRRAND as "The dogs are Livestock Guardian dogs though they need more training. The animals they were protecting have been taken out by a fox over the winter and there are no longer animals to protect. They are not getting the attention/socialization they deserve". Looks like being an in home well love pet is what they are meant to be, and they are looking to be adopted together. They have been together since birth and are very attached to eachother. They are at the GRRAND kennel and they say that Bear and Lucy "act like big puppies, and they are so sweet and loving! You talk about adorable big fluff bunnies!! They love being with people. They've not messed in their runs at all and they do need work on leash walking and a few jumping up manners, but nothing significant. As stated, The Great Pyr are Livestock Guardian Dogs. They will need a home with a fenced in yard as they love to be in their yard to protect and patrol, and this happens best when they are in a secure space! We do suggest that if you are not familiar with the Great Pyrenees breed, that you do some research on them before you apply, as Great Pyrs are a FABULOUS breed, but they are different than Golden Retrievers in some big ways, and to know a Great Pyr is to LOVE one! We are still learning about these two so check back in a week or two for an update! They are looking for a foster or forever family who has the time and patience to work with them, as they have only been outside dogs and will need direction on what it is like to live in a home.  If you would like to meet Lucy and Bear, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org show less

This is Bella and she is a SPECIAL NEEDS DOG! Bella is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old 70lb Golden whose body practically bends in half with happy wiggles when she is showing off her treasures! She is needing an adult household with no other pets, children under the age of 16, a fenced yard and folks who will work her on socialization and confidence-building. Bella will need an experienced family, committed to working with her on resource-guarding behaviors as she was given up by her new owners because she resource-guarded items, primarily food, from their other dog.  She had reportedly not shown any resource-guarding with people, but when Bella went to a new home for “foster to adopt”,  she immediately started resource-guarding a lot of things with her new parents. We have solicited the expertise assistance from our Cincinnati trainer, who says that Bella is a good dog, but needs the right home. She needs experienced pet owners who can work with her under the supervision of our trainer. As stated above, she cannot have children or other dogs in the home as her environment needs to be controlled.  Bella is house and crate trained, has had obedience training and lived in a loving home that gave her all they could, but we are looking for a family or an individual willing to work with her to help her with her resource-guarding tendencies.  Bella's new family needs to be committed to giving her the exercise and training she needs to grow up to be a well socialized girl.  If you feel that you could be that special home Bella is looking for, please submit the adoption application at GRRAND.org   show less

This is Bernie... our sweet Doodle boy! Bernie came to GRRAND from a shelter in late November. He was in terrible condition upon intake and required shaving due to such deep mats. He was also quite unsocialized and has needed a lot of behavioral support to become ready for adoption. We’re so excited for Bernie to be able to continue on the next leg of his journey to finding his forever home! This affectionate boy now loves to jump up and give hugs to his caretakers He will need a family with the time and patience to continue helping him come out of his shell to see all the great things in the world and to give him the attention and exercise he desires. He needs a secure home with an above-ground fenced yard because he could be a flight risk. Bernie resource guards and since he cannot be retrained to change this behavior, he needs a home without any kids, grandkids or children visiting the home. With his resource guarding behaviors, Bernie does not like it when other dogs or people get around his food (or favorite things) so he will need to be fed separately from other dogs however, he does love to play with other dogs and does great with them! We do not believe he should go to a home with cats. Interested families will have the support of our trainer to help understand Bernie and get him settled into his new home If you are interested in fostering Bernie, please complete a foster application: http://grrand.org/foster-process/ If you think Bernie may be the dog for you, please complete an adoption application: http://grrand.org/adoption-process/ show less

Meet Queen Bobbie... She is Queen of stuffie toys, Queen of the couch, and Queen of adorable! Bobbie is about a 7 year old, 90lb Lab/Golden mix that came to GRRAND from a shelter and has proven to be just a sweetheart and while she was at the GRRAND kennel, she loved to swim in the pool! She wants nothing more than to cuddle and be pampered. Her favorite things are to carry around her stuffed toys, chase tennis balls, and explore the great outdoors, look out the window to the world from the house and get LOTS of belly rubs and treats!  As you can see from her pictures, she loves her toys and the couch and thinks she is the size of a small lap dog! ;) She is doing great in her foster home, and they say "Bobbie enjoys daily walks as she continues to work on her leash training. Bobbie is such a great dog and really deserves the best home/family"!  This beauty is house-trained, crate-trained, potty trained and knows some basic commands. Most of the time she has free reign of the house. She is generally pretty good with other dogs - but should be introduced to new doggy friends slowly. She is currently living with another large dog and has spent weekends with a younger, smaller dog/puppy without any issues. We are confident that she could become accustomed to almost any dog - but she may prefer medium to lower-energy dogs like herself, and we do NOT know how she will do with cats. Bobby LOVES people and has been around several children of all ages but may knock over a smaller child since she is pretty big.  She has not shown any treat or toy aggression either.  Rooms for improvement: knocking things off counters/tables, having a little more patience with dogs who get in her face or lack manners. Overall Bobby has been a JOY to love on these past few months. She is a people person through-and-through and just wants to be someone's best friend, couch buddy and companion! This cutie is Buttercake! She is a 8 month old Great Pyrenees puppy who needs to be the only dog in the home as she does not like to compete for her human's attention! She is in a temporary foster home and this is where we learned of her deep love and protection of her people in her home. This is what we have been told: "Butter (Buttercake) is really the best puppy. She cannot however be in the home without resource guarding me. This was an unexpected occurrence as  she has absolutely no issues around other dogs at the dog park, vet or day camps.   She is crate trained and will self crate so I usually never lock the crate. Butter has not destroyed any furnishings but loves socks.  I am wondering if she is part magpie as she loves to collect things and put them in her crate (including a watch, house slippers and a table runner!). She loves rides in the car but I make sure to tether her as she has tried to climb out the window before I get her out of the car.   She is still nervous about her new home so we have not made it into the street for a walk. But she is good on a leash/lead in the backyard and loves to explore. Particularly in the bushes - adding some dirt color to those white paws!  She does not usually come when called and is not as good motivated as most dogs (gotta LOVE that GP stubborness!).  However, we are learning to sit and she will follow instruction most of the time if there is a treat at stake.   Butter has now been spayed (on the vet’s recommendation) and up to date on all her vaccinations.  We would love to keep her but she is increasingly aggressive with my sons little beagle and their visits will be often now that I live so close to them. She is an awesome dog and will be the best pet where there is no competition for her human’s attention at home". She will be looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a family with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so she can grow up to be a good girl! ***Exercise and direction are a must as a tired puppy is a good puppy!!  We do suggest that if you are not familiar with the Great Pyrenees breed, that you do some research on them before you meet Buttercake as Great Pyrs are a FABULOUS breed, but they are different than Golden Retrievers in some big ways. If you are a Great Pyrenees lover, you will know their delightful stubborness is what makes them so fun and challenging just the same!! To know the Great Pyrenees breed is to love them! Buttercake will need a home with a fenced in yard as this breed love nothing more than to hang out in the yard, patrol a little here and there and watch the world go by. After some work and socialization, we believe she will make a wonderful family pet, but her family will need to be committed to the time and patience she will need to help her through her adjustments and transitions from an outdoor dog to living in a home with a family.  If you would like to meet Buttercake, please fill out an app at grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for their foster or adoptive homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, or Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. Cami is a super sweet, 2 yr old Lab/Australian Shepherd mix but actually looks more like a black lab!   She is being surrendered from her owner’s home because they also have her female littermate and the girls are exhibiting some littermate syndrome and getting into a few squabbles (nothing too bad, but owners think they will be happier separated).  Cami is house and crate trained, although she has actually graduated from using the crate in her current owner’s home! She now has full run! As Cami is an active breed dog, she loves to retrieve balls in the yard and carry around soft toys! Sadly, her owner has moved to a home without a fenced yard so Cami’s days of running and retrieving are over for now, but she sure would love to get back to it ASAP!  She generally interacts well with dogs in public places and loves human attention, but her owner thinks she may enjoy being the only dog or would do better in a home with a submissive male dog.  She is looking for a home with a fenced yard and a family who is willing to exercise her and work with her on leash training (she is prone to pull).  Cami is a beautiful, sweet, happy go lucky girl, who should do really well with a family who is willing to give her love and attention.  Cami lives with 2 cats and also lives with kids 14, 12, 9 and 7. Casey (longer hair) and Russ (flat coat) are 11ish week old Labradoodle puppies who were turned in as the breeder had to many puppies to find homes for! They are in a foster home with children over the age of 6 and here is what they say so far "They are doing great! They haven’t had any accidents in the house and they’ve been doing great with my kids. They’ve also been doing great with my bossy adult dog". These little cuties are not necessarily looking for a home together, but they are looking for a home that abides by the GRRAND puppy guidelines: Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info. GRRAND policies stipulate a few important things that may stop you from applying, and here are 2 big ones- A: GRRAND will NOT place a puppy under the age of 6 months with families with children under 6 yrs old  B: Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard... meaning direct access to the yard from the home… so this means no apartments or condos.  As with all puppies, they will need a home where someone is home most of the time as they need to be fed regularly, and let to go outside consistently and constantly ALL DAY LONG so potty training can be a breeze. They will be looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a family with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so they can grow up to be good pups! ***Exercise and direction are a must as a tired puppy is a good puppy!! It is a lot of fun, but it is a lot of work, and if you don't have the time, an active and non-stop playful puppy may not be for you!  Families must understand there needs to be constant supervision as children of all ages need to learn to respect an animal and puppies, and need to be taught boundaries. We are excited these pups will finally get to know what a nice soft bed, in a warm and cozy home with a loving family is all about! We will update as we learn more about these cuties, we will update, but if you are interested in meeting one or both of them, they are in a foster home waiting for you! Coco is a beautiful 2 year old, 43lb Goldendoodle with totally gray hair, black ears and TWO INCH long eyelashes!! She is looking for her forever family who can give her the exercise and attention she is needing to be a happy girl. Her family has made the incredibly difficult decision to rehome her and they are feeling she would blossom with a family who is home mostly during the day (she has some separation anxiety hence needing a home with someone home most of the time) and a backyard to romp around throughout the day! Coco gets along well with other dogs (she has been to doggie day care and loved it) and loves people and animals of all sizes and ages. She is a super sweet girl with a lovely temperament! She has typical 2 year old energy but isn’t jumping off the walls, knows basic commands and presents a gentle mouth for treats. Coco does very well on leash without any real pulling and she is responsive to voice commands. Her food/water bowls are in her crate which is where she eats but does not sleep in as she prefers the bedroom area instead and is housetrained with full run of the house. Coco barks a bit upon first meeting but quickly becomes your best friend and enjoys petting nonstop! Coco is a lovable, lively dog who LOVES cuddles!  Coco's mommy says in regards to their difficult decision "I love her more to want her to be in a home with a family that has the space, time to spend with her and financial ability to love and care for her the way she deserves". Calling all Doodle lovers! This bonded pair of sweet girls had a rough start in an Amish puppy mill but have learned that people aren’t so bad. They have been in a foster home since July and are blossoming in that environment. Cookie and Noelle are: ·         Gorgeous, young, medium sized Golden Doodles ·         Joyful, cuddly girls that love other dogs and are happy to sit by you to be petted ·         Homebodies that need a physically fenced yard and someone home more than a typical working family. They show no signs of separation anxiety when left in the house. That means it’s nap time! These girls love to play and start their day smothering their foster brother with kisses before running around the yard and wresting. Cookie and Noelle don’t react to loud noises (ex. TV, vacuum, fireworks) but do skitter away from abrupt unexpected movements so no young children should be in the home. The girls are learning basic commands (come when called, sit for treats) but haven’t ventured out on walks yet.  The perfect owner for Cookie & Noelle will have experience helping unsocialized dogs overcome fears while learning to trust humans.  These girls require direct access to a physically fenced yard and no children under the age of 12.  If you have a lot of love and patience to share with deserving dogs, please submit an application. Cookie and Noelle can’t wait to meet you! show less

This pretty little lady is Dolly! She is a 1 yr old petite Golden Retriever at about 45lbs who is looking for a family who can take her to her full potential! She is currently in a foster home and they say "She’s super sweet, very smart, really calm, loves other dogs, loves meeting people of all ages and is so gentle with them! She is potty-trained and we are working on crate training (she howls a little at first, but she calms down quickly). She does ok on leash but will benefit from a puppy obedience class to help with leash and socialization. Dolly currently lives with a 4 year old Golden who could care less about her, but she has met other dogs in the neighborhood and done really well. She really wants to play with her foster sister! We took her to a Feeders Supply store and there were cats around and she was fine with them, and we were told she used to live with a cat and another dog in her previous home. She loves meeting new people and has been a huge hit on neighborhood walks! She’s the Golden jackpot of Golden pups"! WOW... She sure sounds great to us! We are happy she is in a great foster home as we were told she had not been treated so great prior to the people who rescued her and brought her to GRRAND. Due to this, he is going to need a home with a fenced yard, another dog and someone who is experienced in working with a dog who is unsocialized. As her past is unknown, Dolly will not be placed in a home with children under the age of 6. Dolly is proving that with lots of love and TLC, she is going to be a very special girl, but she still needs a home with structure and stability to help her grow. PICK ME! PICK ME!! Looking for a companion to go swimming with you? THIS IS YOUR GUY!!!! Evan loves the water and to play! Meet Evan! This cutie is a big, sweet, playful 11 month old doodle pup of some kind, but we're not exactly sure which combination. He has been at the kennel for 3 months and we are really needing to find this handsome boy a home! He came in with his sister Maggie who quickly found her foster home and is doing well. The owners lived in an apartment and when they got Evan and Maggie, as they grew it became difficult for them to find the time to take them out to exercise and eliminate. As a result we believe the pups were left in the apartment almost all of the time which meant we are having to train Evan on housebreaking and are making steady progress.  He is a fun loving big pup! As you can see from his pictures, he loves to swim, but he's goofy and clumsy so we always use a life jacket on him. He loves to play... he loves balls and frisbees and is getting good at catching both. He's getting better by the day at leash walking. Evan is proving to be very smart and loves to learn new tricks. He loves people, and he could go to a home with older children, but he may bowl little kids down with his enthusiasm and clumsiness to greet them, so no little ones is best. He likes most other dogs. If he went to a home with another dog it would need to be with a medium/large, non-senior dog that could match his energy.  The kennel team love Evan and are sad and confused as to why he's still at the kennel. He so deserves a great foster or adoptive home and if you would like to be that family to bust him out of the kennel, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org show less

This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec.  **** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are:  MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard, and MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. We are still learning about Faith but we do know she is very fearful of everything right now. You can tell she WANTS to get love but she is very hesitant and when one of the volunteers was able to pet her (once), she laid down in fear. Faith has only known the small confines of a kennel, so this new world she has been introduced to is very scary for her. She finds comfort in other dogs as when she is in the play area with volunteers, she was very indifferent and not so interested in people, but when she is outside with some other dogs, she will get excited and bounce around some.  We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. We do not know how she will be with kids and or chaos, so a home with no kids under the age of 16 is best and we do not know how she is with cats at this time.  If you want to be the one to show Faith what life as a beloved family member is all about, please fill out an application: grrand.org/foster grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for their foster or adoptive homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, or Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. This senior boy is Harley... He is a 10 year old Lab looking for his new forever family. His senior dad passed away and when he was taken to a family members home, those dogs pestered Harley and it was not a good fit. He needs a home where he can just chill out! He has since moved to a foster home and here is what they have to say: “Are you a groundhog enthusiast without a friend to share your hobby? You need Harley! 10 year old Harley (who looks and acts younger than his age!) loves walks and looking for groundhogs!! He is doing great in his foster home but would love a forever family of his very own. So far Harley is very affectionate, friendly, sweet, good natured and attentive... Just a big goofy guy that thinks he is a lap dog! He hasn’t had any accidents or chewed anything. Food is not a big motivator but he does like soft training treats. He’s learning how to use the doggie door and he is good with other dogs both on and off leash. The car makes him anxious but less so if the windows are rolled down. He is content to nap most of the day unless you are doing something interesting—then he likes to give moral support! However swimming is not more interesting as the picture of him laying on the couch napping, shows he is not a water dog! Everyone else was playing in the pool - and Harley sound asleep in the shade under the fan! LOL! After more time with Harley, we are finding he has a pretty high prey drive, so a home with no cats is probably best!  He is agile and loves to run around the yard and he can go up and down stairs easily. He is very social and loves it when people come over to visit. This guy will make a lovely addition to any home looking for a sweet companion"! grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for their foster or adoptive homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, or Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. Honey is a 3 month old Golden Retriever puppy who was turned into GRRAND from an out of state breeder. She is currently in a foster home and is doing great! Please note the GRRAND puppy guidelines: Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info. This is what her foster mom has to say: "Honey is super sweet and she really just wants to be around people! She’s getting used to the world and slowly being socialized to all the new things around her! Honey is doing great potty training, the only accidents she has are overnight or when I’m out of the house. She doesn’t like the crate so far but we’re working on it".  If you would like to meet Ms Honey, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org show less

ADOPTION PENDING... READ BIO BEFORE APPLYING... LVL applicants only! GRRAND has been asked to help place 4 9-month old Goldens who have been in a service dog training program, but have ultimately turned out to be pups that wouldn’t do well in that capacity. This is a note from the trainer who will be in charge of placing these pups:  "I have the 4 Goldens that I have asked GRRAND to help me place. I would like to explain my criteria for these dogs as I know there are lots of questions about them and the criteria is NOT normal GRRAND criteria: We acquired these dogs from a backyard breeder at 5 months of age and we have been working with them since December. However, we knew when we agreed to take them that it was very unlikely they would work out as service dogs as they are extremely shy, due to the early lack of socialization and they are also very high energy. They look great when training in a class but throw something new at them and they panic. They are very sweet, but new people, places and things are still so spooky for them! They all need a quiet home with owners who have a lot of time to work with them.  They are very mouthy when overstimulated and that could be a serious problem with young children and they will not easily fit into a new environment. GRRAND has agreed to help me find these dogs a home and for me to select a home for them. With this, one of the requirements I have for them, will be a home that has the time to attend classes and private lessons to continue with their training (or rehabilitation might be a better description). They are beautiful and someday will make great family pets but it's going to take a lot of training, patience and dedication. They will be a "project" with whoever gets any of them. If I thought any of them had a chance to be placed in a working environment we would have kept them but they are too fearful and lack the confidence necessary to serve as a service dog and therefore will be adopted as family pets with plenty of work ahead of them and the family". Here are the requirements for Merry, Nick, Jingles and Joy: -Louisville area only -Above ground fenced yards -No other dogs (though they do get along well with dogs) -No children under 6 in the home -Families who are home more than the typical working couple Since these pups are only 9 months old, they have lots of puppy energy and will need lots of exercise and training. The trainer is offering free training as a requirement of their adoption. They are house and crate-trained and have had basic obedience training, but they will need to work on traveling in a car and being well-socialized in the community. If you are interested in Merry, Jingles, Nick, or Joy, please submit an adoption application ASAP! grrand.org/adopt show less

FABULOUS UPDATE on Jonny: 2 year old Jonny, one of the dogs rescued from the puppy mill earlier this year when they were dumped at a vet to be euthanized because an Amish puppy mill was facing an inspection. (PLEASE remind your friends: do not buy puppies from Amish counties, pet stores, or online!) EXCITING NEWS as Jonny has come a long way since early May when he went to live with his foster. He was terrified of every movement, sound, or touch, only finding comfort with the other Amish dogs. Stressors made him tremble and urinate. Since arriving at his foster home, he has begun to trust humans.  Jonny now enjoys being the center of attention but is still reluctant to seek it, although when the other dogs are getting pets he slinks right into the mix like no one notices him. Trust is his issue. He remains fearful of strangers, slow to warm up. Jonny likes going for short walks and is good on the leash but doesn't understand cars, bikes and groups of people yet. He is beginning to eat in the presence of humans and near the other dogs but still retreats if anyone or thing comes near. He has shown zero aggression. He has spent extended time with a boisterous 5 yr old grandson and seems to enjoy small people (they are more trustworthy), whining for more when the kiddo goes inside, however, Johnny has never lived with young children and GRRAND will not place him in a home with kids under 6 as there is no history of him with kids. Jonny has been non-reactive with a cat, allowing it to rub under his chin. Jonny remains a flight risk; so he will need an above ground secure fenced yard, he knows his name and responds with acknowledgment and a short advance, but he still doesn't come, so at his foster home he still wears a short leash, just in case. He definitely knows how to play keep away! Jonny is beginning to show evidence of joy and happiness, with his head held high, tail and ears up, his bouncy run and the zoomies. He is learning to chew on bones but still ignores stuffies. This little guy was so thin, matted (he had to be shaved) and fearful of everything when he arrived. His fur is growing back, he has put on weight, and he is beginning to trust and be happy. Instead of cowering in fear, he follows foster mom everywhere. Jonny is a sharp little guy who is really ready for a family that will love him. He's come a long way and still has lots to learn and trust to develop but he's ready to establish that bond with that forever family. He is on his way to being a great companion. Some of the pups are terrified, having lived in the barn stall, with no socialization, all their lives and are going to need families with a lot of patience! Kane (known as Charles) and Penelope are in the same foster home and here is what she has to say about them: "They are definitely more settled in now and some personality is starting to slowly show. Getting used to people is completely new for them and it shows, as you know. However, they both get excited, happy and eager when any of my dogs come around. If able, I think a “confident around people dog” would be beneficial for their progression if they find a home in the next month or so. Miss P or Charles have no issues with appetite, wrestling with each other, tolerate baths and the more exposure to odd things they have, I think they will turn into a very sweet and great dogs. I’ve only had them for 5 days so I feel like my description and how I think these dogs are going to progress is very preliminary.  Kane who I’ve now been calling Charles because he is more mellow and skeptical than his littermate, has very much an “old man” demeanor. Be in the lookout for the famous side eye he throws! He loves belly rubs and takes better to being held than his sister. Charles is progressing on his independence with the help of chews and toys but still on the fence about whether it’s okay to take food out of a human hand, he prefers for you to leave it and step away. Although still shy, I do think he can’t resist a rub or scratch and this makes him the sweetest of the two".  Interested applicants should expect these puppies to be big, and you should be prepared for that sweet and independent Great Pyrenees personality... to know the Great Pyr breed is to love them, but they are not Goldens, and we suggest you do some research on this beautiful breed before applying! Maggie and Evan are needing a special home who can offer them compassion and love, and all the care they need! We have kind of a sad story about these pups, but it's going to have a happy ending! We had NO IDEA these 2 were coming to GRRAND until one day when their owners showed up who could not speak any English, and were in a total panic... and asking us desperately to help them by taking in their 2 puppies! We had to get an interpreter to find out what the story was and we found out they had them in an apartment, and the landlord was threatening to evict them if they didn’t get rid of the dogs! We are at capasity at our GRRAND kennel, but couldn't say no. We are pretty sure they are doodles (either Goldendoodles or Labradoodles) about 8 months old and a bonded pair. They have never had a collar or leash on, no vet care at all, and they know NOTHING about life as a pet. We just can’t imagine how the owners were managing them in an apartment nor can we imagine what any of them were going through.  Since their arrival, and after a few days of trying to figure things out, they have just blossomed! They were shy and timid in the beginning, and now they are playing happily in the play yards and they love to be loved on by our volunteers. Evan loves swimming, but he has to wear a life jacket as he keeps rolling on his back, (we are sure he will get it in time) and Ms Maggie, well, she is not so interested in the pool at all, so she just hangs out with the people and watches her brother swim. She loves to walk around and seek affection from everyone and anyone who will give it to her! Maggie would love a foster or forever home to get her out of the GRRAND kennel and show her how great home life is! We know she came to GRRAND with her brother Evan, but she is fine to go to a home either with or without him as long as there is another stable, confident dog to help teach her the ropes. She will need a fenced-in yard and a home without young children. She is working on house training and learning basic commands; even though she lived in a home, it seems like she may not have been taken outside very often. She will need a family with the time and patience to give her the exercise and direction she needs, and help work on socialization skills as she really is just a big puppy at this time.  We are still learning all about these two, so check back to follow their progress! Maisy is a 4 month old, about 25lbish little cutie looking for her forever family! She is currently in a foster home and doing great with the other dogs and cat she is living with. If you are interested in meeting Maisy, please note the GRRAND puppy guidelines before reading for more: GRRAND puppy guidelines: Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info. As with all puppies, she will need a home where someone is home most of the time as they need to be fed regularly, and let to go outside consistently and constantly ALL DAY LONG so potty training can be a breeze. She will be looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a family with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so she can grow up to be good puppy! We are excited she will finally get to know what a nice soft bed, in a warm and cozy home with a loving family is all about! This is what her foster mom has to say: "If you want a bit of sunshine as we head into winter, look no further. Maisy is your girl. Maisy came from a young family that overlooked the time and responsibility needed to raise a puppy, and when she arrived at her foster home, she immediately became part of the household. She enjoys hanging out with the other dogs/cat, running errands with her foster mom, attending soccer games, and even swimming. Maisy is crate-trained, and housebreaking is going very smoothly. She enjoys being front and center with the family/dogs and one-on-one snuggle time with her humans". As she is very attached to her foster siblings, Maisy is looking for a home with other dogs to play with and a fenced in yard. UPDATED INFO ON MAPLE FROM HER FOSTER MOM... 7-17: "We reached a big foster milestone the last few days.. After 4 weeks being in our home, our sweet fosters, Millie and Maple, have finally found the courage to jump on the bed. They are loving every minute of it and don't want to get off! These girls have come such a long way in trusting and feeling safe in the home. They will make great members of some family"!! Maple is a 1 year old Goldendoodle who came to GRRAND from a rural shelter (with Maple and Louie) that reached out to GRRAND for help. As MIllie came from a kill shelter as a stray, she will need a home that has the time and patience to work with a puppy! She will need lots of direction and exercise to help her grow up to be a good girl! She is a bit timid, but is coming around at the GRRAND kennel and gets along with the other dogs. She will need a home with above-ground fenced yard, (***but must be supervised at all times as she is known to be an escape artisit) since she loves the yard! Leash walking is a work in progress! Millie and Maple can go as a pair, or separate, but if separate, the home will need another well balanced dog and no young children. She has just gone to a foster home and this is what they are saying: Maple is doing well in her foster home. She is still timid, and needs some time to feel comfortable, but once she is, she enjoys being petted and loved on Maple loves playing with toys and chasing her 9-month old foster dog sibling Maple needs a companion dog to help her feel more confident. She is very submissive to other dogs A fenced yard is a must for Maple. She is a fast, agile runner (like a deer) who enjoys playing in the yard. Maple requires constant supervision as she is a flight risk and will look for a way to escape I know this is already noted in her bio, but I wanted to share that her foster reiterated this point Maple is continuing to work on her leash training. She is very strong and needs a home with the time and patience to improve her leash manners Maple knows some commands and is working on crate training. She is treat motivated They live with a 12 year old 2-legged sibling IMaple is smaller with wavy hair and is a beautiful girl inside and out. She will quickly be climbing up on your lap for love! So Millie has a sweet face, but this face is full of SPECIAL REQUESTS!!! PLEASE READ before you apply to adopt Millie... This sweet girl is a lover and is looking for a dog-savvy, adult only couple or single person to love her back! Millie came to us from a home where she had been improperly trained on an electric fence and was repeatedly being shocked when she would leave the yard. She has overcome many of her issues related to this, but she will require a home with an above ground physical fenced yard!!!   Millie does have some resource-guarding behaviors that she is currently working with a trainer on (who will help transition Millie into her new home), but she will need an adult only, experienced dog-savvy person committed to continual management of these behaviors. Due to this, NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 and again, she will need an above ground fenced yard and that means no apartments or condo type structures! We will not bend on this and in the end, Milie's trainer will have the final say of the right home for her. Millie would love an active person who will take her to doggie daycare to get her energy out or good runs/walks. She would do fine as an only dog or with a stable, submissive dog, but NO CATS! She is also crate-trained.  Millie has a waited too long for her happy forever, and with just the right person, you can live a happy great life together! Can you be the one she deserves?    show less

Cookie and Noelle can’t wait to meet you! show less

GRRAND has taken in a momma Great Pyr and her 12, now 8 week old puppies!!! OH MY!!! GRRAND was contacted by a shelter that feared bringing Athena and her pups into their shelter, because they were going to have to euthanize them all upon intake due of lack of space!! It took a village, but they are all safe, bathed and in foster homes! They all apparently lived in a barn stall, never leaving it, and standing on a ton of feces, which they were covered in when they arrived. Some of the pups are terrified, having lived in the barn stall, with no socialization, all their lives and are going to need families with a lot of patience! Penelope (known as Miss P) and Kane are in the same foster home and here is what she has to say about them: "They are definitely more settled in now and some personality is starting to slowly show. Getting used to people is completely new for them and it shows, as you know. However, they both get excited, happy and eager when any of my dogs come around. If able, I think a “confident around people dog” would be beneficial for their progression if they find a home in the next month or so. Miss P or Charles (Kane) have no issues with appetite, wrestling with each other, tolerate baths and the more exposure to odd things they have, I think they will turn into a very sweet and great dogs. I’ve only had them for 5 days so I feel like my description and how I think these dogs are going to progress is very preliminary.  Penelope I believe has the potential to have quite a personality. I’ve been calling her Miss P, as she often gives a sassy bark and hint of confidence when something gets her attention or she wants your attention. She was the first one brave enough to take yummy treats from my hand and she will now come up slowly for a scratch behind the ears. We’re still not a fan of being picked up by people (will tolerate) but doesn’t mind the love and rubs and we’re still learning that playing with humans can be fun". Interested applicants should expect these puppies to be big, and you should be prepared for that sweet and independent Great Pyrenees personality... to know the Great Pyr breed is to love them, but they are not Goldens, and we suggest you do some research on this beautiful breed before applying! These puppies all will need a secure above ground fenced yard as Great Pyrs love to be in their yard to protect and patrol, and this happens best when they are in a secure space! Please note the GRRAND puppy guidelines: Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info.
